Good Evening!

Terrible things going on in New Orleans.

There is a director at work whose family is from that area. His father was in a home with Alzheimers. He was evacuated, but no one knows to where or if he's okay.

With so little communication going out or in that region, he's going crazy with worrying.

There will be many very sad stories in the next several days and weeks.

Sure makes me glad I don't live there.

Oh my...

"The historic French Quarter appeared to have been spared the worst flooding, but its stores were getting the worst of human nature.

"The looting is out of control. The French Quarter has been attacked," Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson said. "We're using exhausted, scarce police to control looting when they should be used for search and rescue while we still have people on rooftops."

As Sen. Mary Landrieu (news, bio, voting record) flew over the area by helicopter, a group of people smashed a window at a convenience store and jumped in.

At a drug store in the French Quarter, people were running out with grocery baskets and coolers full of soft drinks, chips and diapers. One looter shot and wounded a fellow looter, who was taken to a hospital and survived."

They should declare martial law, and shoot all looters on site.

Lowery's house was built in 1958 and has survived every hurricane to hit the island, including 1979's Frederic, the benchmark by which Dauphin Island storms are measured. "I'd say this is twice as bad as Frederic. I just couldn't believe it," she said.

The Ocean Warwick, an oil-drilling platform washed in by Katrina, was beached against the island.

I feel really bad for the people on Dauphin they got his last year by IVAN only to rebuild and get nailed again......but I guess they know the price there....

"Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead". This famous quote was given by Admiral Farragut during the Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay. This week long naval and land battle resulted in the siege of Fort Gaines and its eventual capture by Union forces.

Tim, I heard on the news that lots of people were staying at that hotel until the water got too deep in the front door and now everyone is supposed to evacuate.

I also just heard that gas here is going up at least $.60/gallon and in the south over $1.

Mark Richer - ( PFID:1de8791f) - 08:20am Aug 31, 2005 PST (# 814 of 814)

Able Minds - host for Peoplesforum

The previous deal was $1000/month keeps the place open another month ... at least until we're paid up and at that rate based on the last deal I cut with Lance, Dec 31 would be the target date to receive the remainder owed through the end of 2005.

PF has failed to meet that goal for Aug 2005 and it's pretty obvious it's not likely to happen by midnight tonight. So to honor those who contributed for Aug 2005, I am keeping PF open an extra day for every $33/day I receive. At the moment we're up to 8 days extension or end of Sept 8, with Lance promising $40 is on the way, it would go to Sept 9, almost till Sept 10. So that gives PF likely 10 or more days to raise the money for Aug. But then the money for Sept needs to be raised.

Why are you giving PF yet another extension when it failed to meet the overall goal of $1000 for Aug 2005. As I said, some members have paid for the extra days legitimatelly anyhow, but also I want to give Lance every possible chance to demonstrate whether PF members are willing to donate sufficiently to keep the site open. The money I receive obviously is of benefit to me as well. When no money or insufficient money comes in, then it's a burden to me, and will close the site down.

The other reason I am giving this extension is because there was some issue as to whether or not summer, especially August, was a horrible time to raise funds. Now with summer over, and Lance's site wide message posted, we will know definitely whether members are or aren't willing to support Lance's donation model for PF. Blaming it on summer time fundraising no longer applies, especially after Labor Day, and we'll definitely be "open for business" at least a few days past then.

BUSH CONSIDERS ADDRESS TO NATION; CALL FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION

Wed Aug 31 2005 10:20:34 ET

President Bush is considering an address to the nation asking citizens to conserve energy, a top White House source says.

Bush ordered the release of oil from federal petroleum reserves to help refiners affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Bush returned to Washington on Wednesday to oversee the federal response to the historic disaster. He plans to coordinate federal efforts, across more than a dozen agencies, to assist hurricane victims.

"Still undecided is whether or not to call for a nationwide effort to reduce energy consumption during this emergency," a top Bush source explains. "It is seriously being considered."

A second White House source says there are no plans for the president to address the country on gas.

The current gas price is a bunch of bull!

There's no reason for gas to be so high.

It's the oil companies gouging us.

Exxon had record profits last year. Something like $3 billion in profits.

It's a scam!
