Just curious, would anyone be interested in taking part in a mock hunt that I would create in honor of the Zeph-man's return, my new-found freedom, and the Tim man's Rolling stones?

Seems like with all the bad stuff going 'round 'round here a good hunt might be just what the Dr. suggests.

Power's out here, by the way, I'm computing by candlelight like my ancestors did. I'm about 1/4 mile north of Obb's.

Gotta work now.

The front edge of the storm was pretty wild looking but I couldn't get any 'bolt' lightning pictures to show conditions well enough. Cloud lightning just doesn't work as well.

yeah I'm doing a hunt hopefully starting oct 16.

it's going to be 2 clues a day.

clue one: sunday oct 16

2: monday AM

3: monday PM

4: tuesday AM

5: tuesday PM

6: wednesday AM

7: wednesday PM

8: thursday AM

9: thursday PM

10: friday AM

11: friday PM

12: sometime saturday. probably from near the location, as I think it should be obvious by then.

I liked the 1 week hunt with the capture the flag. Especially with mock hunts it's hard to dedicate yourself to something for more than a week really. However I wanted to keep it closer to the real thing with 12 clues. This also will reward people that work in the morning as well as evening because there are 2 different times clues come out. More info to follow I'm going to see if I can get a thread set up so I can start getting donations for prizes. Already in the prize pool are 2 pairs of tickets to the wild, 2 St. Paul Saints baseball hats, and a Pioneer Press baseball hat. I'll be adding things as people donate and as I figure out what else I want in there.

the cloud lightning was cool nontheless though - the sky was lit up with no boom boom boom from touchdowns (like we've seen much of those lately anyhow!!- yes, dig at Vikes!)

like always, through this part of the Mississippi Valley -didn't get hit by nothing but hard downpour

mom called me from WBL, from her basement ---aaaah good ol days --- I remember grandmas creepy basement with the radio and candles during a storm... I had to tell mom that the High Bridge and downtown have been hit twice EVER by tornado activity- only get straightline winds here and hardly even hail if we're lucky-sometimes its no fun living right near the bluffs.

sad about the 45 yr old man hit by a tree in Mpls though :frown:

my girls didn't go out tonight but they usually like to go hang out in the rain

September 22, 6:26 AM: Web Crossing is rebuilding the database, after a crash caused by an export effort. It appears to be nearly done rebuilding, and should start up in a short bit.

September 22, 6:11 AM: This recent hang-up was related to my effort to export parts of the site. I think I will probably need to cut off access to the site for a bit so I can see if I can export without crashing. For now, I'm going to get the site back up if I can.

Somebody sent in a reply to my letter to the editor. This is in todays Pioneer Press.

Making the most of losing a plant

With regard to M.D. McMahon's Sept. 19 letter, "Diamond Products a big loss for city," about the closing of the Diamond Products Co. plant in St. Paul and the creation of a task force to make recommendations on the future of that site:

As chairman of the task force, I want jobs in St. Paul, such as University Enterprise Laboratory adding high-value jobs, moving Kemps to Energy Park and the relocation here of the War Memorial Blood Bank.

Put it in perspective: A mayor can't tell a private corporation how to run its business. He must work with those out of a job to try to find jobs and, with willing owners, to redevelop the property itself.

I believe this site in Lowertown presents an incredible redevelopment opportunity due to its unsurpassed transportation access, location and the beautiful Vento Nature Sanctuary next door, a truly exciting urban/natural connection.

By year's end our task force intends to give him and the City Council our ideas for these 21 acres. Throughout the process we want the public's input on how best to develop them for all St. Paulites.

Funny how a guy living in North Oaks knows whats good for factory workers in St Paul. And I beleive the railroad tracks are next door, before you get to the park. Oh and the bums under the bridges too. Then the park is beautiful. Then up on top of the cliff you get back to crack heads and junkie street fights with gun fire at night. Guess he don't see that in his rose colored glasses in North Oaks. I also missed out on the Mayors help finding a job. Evidently he didn't like my idea of the city helping the company stay here in minnesota.

There is some renovation project underway with the Depot to turn it back into a useable trainstation- wonder if that will impact the 21 acres in any way -

I thought that was one of the places (the Gilette Factory) slated for the baseball stadium?
Fri, 09/23/2005 - 2:18 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

It was wanted for a ball stadium at one point by the city, Our company said it was not for sale. The city kept publishing thing saying it was a possible location. Thats one reason I'm pissed off about it. Either the city was going to take it anyways, or the company was lying to us. Either way it sucks for us.

Yes I have seen reports about Union Depot. They probly will want to do something with this area to fit in with that project.

I can understand that they would want to renovate the area after we leave, but it should have been a last resort. The city just seems to eager get us out and get their hands on the property. Makes me wonder if theres more than meets the eye on the whole deal.

it sounds linked and fishy to me.

RCHS is working with someone on a book on the Union Depot - or a story for the magazine - it all seems tied in to the renovations.

The thing I find odd is that as recently as a couple weeks ago the management team was planning on staying in St Paul. This was evident in the fact they were investing in machinery etc. Now a couple weeks later they announce the closing and auctioning off of all the equipment? Something changed their minds fast. I think it's the city.
