Ladies and Gentleman:

This is new to me but I could not resist! I had to see if this is for real!

I was at an East Side bar last night and heard the blubbering drunk talking about this message board. At first it sounded far fetched but as he went on, I thought,

what the hell is this guy talking about.

I went home last night and wasted three hours on the cooler crew page looking to see if he was just spouting off! I thought he was so I went to bed after finding

nothing!

When I arrived at work this morning I realized that there was this message board. I combed through as much as possible only to find out he wasn't BSing.

OOPs gotta go, will be back as soon as my manager goes into her meeting!!!!!!

Someone made a point earlier about us reading too much into the clues. I think if the clues were sufficiently well constructed, that shouldn't be possible. For example,

Clue #6 where a man of fame offers a useful name. This clue tells us nothing because virtually every park is named after someone famous or is near a street named

after someone famous. There was nothing in the clue to suggest that Babe Ruth was the right answer and the only right answer. I was convinced it was Henry

Hudson because at least Hudson was a useful name (Hudson Guide). But if you can't figure out the answer and then have it "click", then the clue is worthless. By

comparison, with clue #7, once you knew it was Wilson, you knew you had the right answer. Someone claimed that writing these clues wasn't easy. I'm sure its not,

but I'm equally sure I could do it better. Anyone have an idea how to get the job? Perhaps it will be open after this year.

Also, to carnival committee, it is quite obvious that Aaron Nierdorf never posted anything here. He probably doesn't even know this site exists. If you read his

account of what happened in the paper it is quite clear the internet had no bearing on his search. It is far too easy for a computer savvy person to fabricate the entire

thing as others have already proven so please stop your slander.

Allison wonderland--

I agree also that some of the clues were misleading. translucent? As was said before the peaks at sun ray aren't translucent, they are transparent. I wonder who edits

these clues. At least the clue could have the correct meaning. Also, two even places (planes). Were the rinks even? and by even, did the pp mean flat or the same

size? I'm still confused and a little disappointed.

Anyways, thought I would respond to you. jj

Allison Wonderland

Actually, it said the planes/places were of equal size. They definitely were not. I'd say the bigger one was at least 50% bigger, maybe more. The peak thing is

annoying too. The clue said a (as in one) translucent peak, when Sunray in fat had two transparent peaks. Why even bother using that as the explanation when there

was a single translucent peak readily available at the rec center? Also, what were they trying to say when they said the water on high was a water tower on top of a

3M building. Does such a thing even exist. I'm almost certain its not visible from the park, much less the hiding place. And again, why such a farfetched explanation

when the water tower on McKnight would more than suffice. I don't know if you read my conspiracy theory earlier (which may just be fiction) but in a lot of ways it

does sound like they tried to refit the clues to a different hiding spot than the original and thus had to stretch some of the explanations (as well as rewrite Clue #12

which was noticibly missing for awhile?). The thing that bothers me most is that these clues just don't seem to lead to the alleged hiding spot. They seem to only lead

to the west side of the park and then its good luck from there.

By the way jennyjenny, if you're still here. You weren't too tough on CC. If somebody is going to make accusations against someone and try to blacken their name,

it is VERY important that they have the facts right. And if someone casts doubt on their case, it borders on libel for them to continue those accusations without

substantial proof.

I wonder what AnswerMan was leading up to? Perhaps he had breaking news that the medallion is hidden in Newell, or maybe even Conway.

ANSWER MAN

This nut is sitting there laughing, drinking and carrying on like he just got out of the funny farm or something.

He said that he was the guy that found the medallion, arron neardorf. Then he'd keep saying does anyone want some pie. Each time after that he'd say "fooled ya",

sort of like saying c ya! Everybody wanted to kill him because he was so sickening. What's strange is he was sort of funny when he made sense if that's what you

would call it.

He explained that there were two arron neardorfs that wrote in on spelled the regular way and another spelled with a "-" after it. I didn't know what he was talking

about.

I guess he was mostly upset at how these people tore up the playground that he played at when he was a little kid. He even started crying and everything, I couldn't

believe it. This guy was upset. He even said that the real guy that found the medallion, his friend lived across the street from where it was found. He said the guy that

lived in the apartment or house seen the guy hide it! I asked him if he found it before the treasure hunt and he said he didn't know. He had heard there was a GPS in

it to detect if it had been moved. I said "sure".

Anyway when I looked in here this morning I couldn't believe my eyes. Half the stuff he was talking about was in here. I see him in that bar about once a month

because I don't go out much. I think he's a regular, because otherwise they would have kicked him out.

Allison Wonderland

I wonder if the PP has to pay for damage to parks? If so, I wonder if the extra papers they sell during the hunt, and any possible additional ad revenue are enough to

make up for it? If not, what's the point in making the hunt drag out so long?

Fri, 02/05/1999 - 2:18 PM Permalink

So AnswerMan, are you sure this guy was really THE Aaron Nierdorf?

I was at Conway at 6 am on Sunday morning and that area had not been dug up. I spent most of Sunday at Battle Creek totally wasting my time, but my guess is

that the medallion left Conway park on either sunday or monday.

I am a little unclear....are you the one that found the medallion fooled ya?

Fri, 02/05/1999 - 2:31 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I first arrived in Conway on Saturday when it was all virgin snow except for a few sled and cross country ski tracks. I returned on Sunday and only a few major

spots had been dug up like the bases on the fields and around the bases of trees. Sunday night I mentioned on the internet that it was at Conway and by Monday a

crowd had started to form. At that time, most everyone who had been there had seen the 459 house and that is where a lot of people began their search. By

Tuesday the place was a madhouse and there was scarcely an untouched spot anywhere near the sporting fields. By Tuesdayu night it appeared everyhting in that

area of the park had been excavated, particularly anything in front of 459.

It is pretty upsetting to think that i spent tuesday and wednsday digging for something someone already had.... and going without any sleep needless to say.

Fri, 02/05/1999 - 2:35 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Me, no I didn't have a chain saw. I was just poking through the snow with a cane hoping to hit it. I think it is sad that the park got tore up, I agree that the clues were

lame, and I suspect there is some fishy going on, but I'm not sure what it is that you're trying to accomplish. You have a lot of good ideas and observations fooled ya,

so why are you wasting your talents on this little tirade against Aaron?

Fri, 02/05/1999 - 2:37 PM Permalink
jacques villeneuve

Allison, i am pretty sure aaron found the medallion on sunday or monday and held on to it. By tuesday that medallion had left the park, GUARANTEED!!!!!! If that

is the case, he deserves to be castrated. Alot of people spent a lot of their time on this and he should have turned it in immediately. I am using common sense here.

There are much much more interesting accusations to make than just trying to make people believe the finder is an asshole. What about the inconsistencies and

innaccuracies of the some of the clues? What about the fact that someone on the button committee didn't have a registered button? Or that his girlfriend is on said

committee. There are so many more lucrative avenues for you to explore.

have been found sunday or monday! So don't get you undies in a bundie, alright?!? jj

I don't know if you read any of my earlier postings but I had a theory that the medallion was hidden somewhere else in the park on Tuesday. Then when the

planes/places fiasco occured, someone may have retrieved the medallion. Then they got the boyfriend of someone involved in the Winter carnival, someone

seemingly far enough away from the top people to seem innocent to pretend to find it somewhere closer to the hockey rinks where they could still claim to make

some sense out of the clues. That is why some of the explanations seem stretched, others seem absent, and why clue #12 took so long to appear (they had to rewrite

it). Imagine if the medallion had been found nowhere need the hockey rinks (not that it really was anyway). Can you imagine how many pissed off people there

would be who lost sleep digging by the hockey rinks because of a misprint? Better to compromise the hunt than to compromise their reputation.

I tell you what, i am not going to visit this site again till next year. I sincerely hope that all of the facts come out here. This is my first hunt and i spent over 30 hours at

conway, and i dont think someone could find it in 15 minutes. i also dug exactly where he found it not once, not twice but 3 times. The medallion wasnt there. Maybe

he had the inside on where it was, maybe he didnt. But i do know that the medallion was found by tuesday morning, no questions asked. If there was some wrong

doing here, i hope it becomes known. We cannot, however, blame the pioneer press. they make this fun and possible, and without them, there is no hunt. so lets not

trash talk them. you all better do you homework in the next 350 days, because im gonna find it after the 7th clue next year. have a good year everyone.

I agree with jacques that the area it was found in was some of the most explored territory in the whole park. I can't imagine how it could have been missed for so

long, and then someone finds it in 15 minutes. In the article he made it sound like he was searching somewhere people hadn't really touched and there's no way that

area wasn't gone through at least 10 times. Everytime I was out there, about 10 times altogether, there was always someone digging over there.

There's been some debate. Its supposed to be held where the treasure was, but Conway has no picnic facilities or electricity for us. But now we may have it there

anyway and just barbeque or something. At this point I doubt it will be anywhere else. Its at 11:30AM on Sunday.

You seem like one of the only normal ones on here still. Is this picnic for real? I really want to go over the clues etc. let me know about it..

Fri, 02/05/1999 - 3:12 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Yes the picnic is for real. I guess they had one last year too, though I didn't know about it then. Its being planned by some of the cooler "old-timers" (if you want to

call a two year veteran an old-timer) who got reluctant to post this year because of they felt the quality of the posts this year had gone downhill. The plan is to have it

in the park it was found in Sunday at 11:30AM. At first they didn't think they could do it in Conway, but it sounds like people who can stay up all night in the cold

digging through snow, can manage to have a party without proper picnic facilities. I heard that 25 people went last year, and this year they're expecting closer to 50.

Its a pot luck, but like I said, I believe a barbeque will be the prime source for cooking.

Hello Allison and anyone else left here.

Just an update here regarding the rehash bash on Sunday. The last I heard earlier today is that the rec center building does not open till noon....but we will probably

be there a bit earlier than that anyways. I think we will have the use of the rec's tables...maybe we should bring lawn chairs if you have them. I also believe we will

have at least one bbq grill. Further details to follow as those who are making the contact will check in. All details should be finalized by tonight.

Need to get back to work.
