Well, there was little no reading the defenses with moss, teams played a simple cover 2 on us. But Birk read the line shifts and blitzes and called out the blocking assignments to the O-Line. That is one of the things that made him so valuable imo was his knowledge of the game. That and his ability to pull which is essential for a good zone running team. Oh well...

Teams weren't playing a simple cover 2 on us. If that were they case we'd run plays that beat simple cover 2 over and over again. They could run cover 2 and mix up the 2 deep personnel. They could blitz out of the cover 2. They could run a zone or a man coverage, while putting a man over the top to Moss' side. Taking Moss out of the equation allows the defense to put more guys in the box for the quarterback and center to account for. Withrow's not as experienced, so that's going to factor into it. We're also playing under a new coordinator who is not as good as Linehan. He's having success in Miami. We're having to get used to a new system, even if it's slightly different. There really isn't much continuity. The team is having to go to a new guy to discuss problems on the offense, and where that person is or who that person is has changed from game to game it seems.

Yeah I shouldn't have said a simple cover 2, but cover 2 nonetheless. Really there wasn't much to read from the QB's perspective that was my point.

I'm not saying that Moss' departure hasn't affect our offense because that would be insane. I'm just saying that I think the affect is overstated.

Now teams are putting different coverages in and mixing zone/man a lot more as well as implimenting more blitzes. Our recievers arent great but they can beat man coverage on the outside when teams blitz us to hell, the problem is our inability to pick the blitzes up imo.

You're right, a lot of people are putting so much emphasis on Moss' departure. Heck, he was gone for how many games last year because of injury, and it's not like we sucked ass on offense. There's plenty of factors to share the blame. The defense does have a lot more that they can do frontage and coverage wise. They can basically blitz any way they want. Why the heck not? Put a bunch of people in the box where we can't run. If we pass, have any number of people blitz. We're having problems picking up the blitz and giving Daunte time to pass. The receivers don't have enough time to get off any man coverage to allow Daunte a window to pass it. Daunte is hurt and can't get away to make the defense pay if the blitz doesn't work.

The only thing surprising about the Viking Lake Minnetonka Cruise story is the speed in which things got out of hand.

Forty minutes and the crew had seen enough. The boats must have barely left the dock before the affair turned into such a bacchanalian jamboree that they cut it short by about three hours.

I don't find it that terrible that someone with money hired an "escort". But isn't it just wierd- gross- bizarre- creepy that they were enjoying their "purchases" in front of their friends/co-workers? :worried:

Did anyone else see the press conference at winter park today? When directly asked if he was on the boat, Daunte said, "I am not going comment on that". Hmmm...didn't say no. Daunte's reaction reminded of the Denny Green press conference from a few years ago when he wrote that controversial book calling the NFL racist. "Does anyone hear want to talk about the upcoming game? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,silence...... (leaves podium.)

I think it's pretty pathetic and disgusting that someone, anyone, would hire an "escort".

But that's just my personal opinion, and we all know what they say about those.

At least the team had one good block this year.

"Yes, the Vikings have spent the past 20 years orchestrating what appears to be a highly organized campaign to ruin their image and disgust their fans.

And it is in those 20 years that their popularity has grown exponentially."

Reusse said in a column once that the Viking fan demographic is a single man 18-34 whose greatest time of the week is 5 p.m. Friday and whose worst time of the week is 8 a.m. Monday. In between the build their weekend blowing money on pro football and Schiek's Palace Royale.

What is all this going to matter to them? Hell, most of them wish they were on the boat.

I think it depends on the level, they are very different talents.

Figure skating is easier to see the talent as compared to what we can do because most people have been out on skates on an open rink. Hockey is more difficult to gauge because most people don't get the chance to play on the same ice with world class players.
