I have exhaustively analyzed today's clue and and am now 100% certain that the medallion has been placed in a park within the St Paul city limits. This is the year that my medallion-seeking magic frisbee shall not/must not fail!
Albeit a strecth I do like the Swede Hallow concept, if you consider that this is the millenium and a while earlier, I suggested we consider that term "mill" is part of the word and what I deem to remember about early St. Paul is that Swede Hallow was the location of the old Hamms brewery (a beer mill).
Now of course I was only kidding about Swede Hallow. If the use of "Vikings" is a clue, I still think it is the relatively useless clue of describing what the medallion is hidden in. I don't think they would have (or ever have?) alluded to the park in any way in the first clue, especially if it were to be such a small park as Swede Hallow.
Hey THX, the SA you're talking about . . . izit the downtown SA that is very close to Lafayette? I need the 4 pack. I haven't had time to pick them up, due to a sick child. I'm imagining that I'll be out either today or tomorrow, but wanna make sure ittiz the right SA.
Just an FYI . . . the reason I ask is that I don't live near the cities at all. Oh heck, I don't even live near the 5th rung suburbs, so a drive in needs to be planned.
Allison . . . sorry I missed your Trivia game! You know that I LOVE trivia! I almost didn't give you back your electronic version last year!!!
BTW . . . Green, you doll! Thanks for picking up a book for me!
I just read in the paper today that the winner get's a trip to Las Vegas AND $10,000. Not sure how accurate that is though since it says you get $5,000 for finding it and $2,500 for a button whereas everything else has it the other way around. And I here I always admired the PP for their accuracy. Now they can't even get their own story straight!
Another cold day in Wisconsin, I wish I was back in St. Paul so Birdie and I could stay out all night and search for this one. Oh well. See ya tonite, clue #2.
This is information from a call to the Pioneer Press.
The prizes are those stated in the rules on page 6B of today's paper. Those read as follows:
The finder of the medallion must immediately return it to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., in downtown St. Paul to qualify for the $2500 initial prize. An additional $2,500 will be awarded for clipping out the daily clues from the Pioneer Press and providing them with the medallion.
The Pioneer Press will also award an additional $5000 to the finder if he or she is a registered 2000 Winter Carnival button owner and has mailed an official entry form postmarked by Jan. 27 to the Winter Carnival office.
Basically, it's the rules that are official...not the article.
Well if tonights clue goes as scheduled it will tell us some things but will be very vague. Last year it told us to stay away from a sliding hill, but that is all it said. Two years ago it told us that the park had woods and scenery. And three years ago it told us that directly what it was hidden in and what part of St. Paul the park was. I look for tonights clue to tell a few things but, because it is only the 2nd clue, for it to be very vague.
Well Y2G, it is cold there huh? Can u beat me up here in Hibbing? High of 4 degrees with a low of -4 and a wind chill of -28? As of 3:00pm it was 0. Just thought I'd let ya know that.
I wasn't out digging last night!! I was actually spending time with my girlfriend..... Anyways, I had a blast last night and just wanted to thank everyone who was there for a great time. I was a little nervous at first not knowing anyone, but you all made me feel right at home. I should be on for the clue tonite, (about 11:30 actually) so hopefully, i'll talk to you all then.
Alright man I can't beat ya, but it hasnt gotten above 6, since i got here on Sunday. I try to avoid the weathermen out here, they cannot hold a candle to Belinda.
Hey why did they start a new board anyways?? Are they trying to spread us hunters out so we cannot find that damn thing after the 3rd clue? Just wondering....
I dunno why the new board was started. I am sure Terry can answer that. I told everyone not find it til after next weekend so at least I can get a chance to look.
My guess that the reason they started a new board is because *this* board is for this year's, 2000, Hunt. The board called "The Medallion Hunt," was for last year's Hunt, 1999, and MomPlanet never removed it.
Too, with a new board for a new year, they'll be better able to track the exact number of posts.
George, the reason why each year they start a new board is because there is no confusion about what clues people are talking about. There are those people who might be reading very old discussions. Each year PP starts a new board for a new year/clues. Eventually, the old board will not exist and all discussions will be here. People will get the idea when they log on. As far as getting the new clues, click on the "blue" number beside the individual names (#123 of 140). The new messages will be brought up for you. I'm not much on technical words but that should help. I don't read a lot into the first clue just because it's the first. So many things change with each clue as well as ideas as to what each might mean.
well, i don't have any ideas on the first clue. I try not to start thinking about it until I have sufficient number of clues to go on. The chances of anyone finding it, in the first week, are not that great.(as most of us know) If it were found, it would have alot to do with luck and maybe a little to do with the clues. Last year, i was at Conway, before most others. It's near my house, so I had a little more knowledge about the park than most. I spent hours, days at that da#n park! hehe I never dug in the corner where it was hidden. Every other one...except that one. Oh well, it made me feel better, knowing the finder didn't have a button! ;o)
I dont have any idea where that puppy is at. It was nice to meet you all last night. I didn't go out digging last night, but I was all prepared to. Me, Buster K & CSeriDig went out last night, we drove around Highland, and part of Como, just to get the feeling pumping back through the bloodstream again. We had our gear on just in case we came to some major revelation while driving down the lonely streets of St. Paul or in case the Army guys told us to get away from the damn Ice Slide. Anyway, see you on tonight. BTW- Jake up there is the walking library of medallion historia.
Just a quick response to what Allison was talking about way, way up there....I found it to be a real surprise that the first clue was so up to date, seeing as most of us have always assumed the clues were written before now. But my guess is, they're just trying to throw us off. I don't think the first clue means anything, but as far as the Vikings thing goes, I would be willing to bet that they wrote a clue one with a winning Vikings outcome and one with a losing Vikings outcome and no matter which one they used, it will still only lead us to a St. Paul with or without a golf course. I've never seen a clue one that has meant anything more than that...of course it is a new century, so who knows.
Jake is... I don't know what. Can you believe it? LOL! For once green's at a loss o'words! The guy is UNREAL!!! I was totally amazed and awed last nite. Blew *this* pea-sized brain, I'm telling you.
ShovelMaster, did you take the duct tape when you went out with your gear? :)
Wasn't last nite fun? Always izz when The 'Crew gets together. Hope you make more gigs, called STB-L's ("Shoot The Breeze-Live!"). Sometimes we play 500, sometimes Pictionary, sometimes we just yap... But we're always laughing and having a good time.
Midnight seems so far away...
I'm now wondering... "A new obession..." Wonder if it means a "new" park?
Hi cooler crew gang! Last night's pre-hunt support group session was just what the doctor ordered. Now remember to get your sleep these first few days. Dare yourselves to wait until the morning for the clue.
Yep, somewhere on the Pioneer Press cutting floor is a first line that reads, For a Vikings diversion, try a new excursion....just in case they won! I for one like the idea of reviving the 11:30 tradition of buying the newspaper. I realize, y'all like the clues online, but since I live only two blocks from the Press, I can get that extra jump on the competition! Good luck to all, I'm off to wax my shovel!
GBM, you are a HOOT! "...pre-hunt support group session was just what the doctor ordered"!!! We're a benign group... Crazier'un a bedbug, but very benign and harmless.
Jett's not checked in 2day... Since he's studying psych... I wonder what his take is on the collective mind-set o'Hunters/Diggers? :) I guess in his case he certainly can't call the kettle black!!!
Sleep? Wussthat? I was up until 3:30 this marning reading your pub-lee-cae-shun!!! No way can I wait until tomorrow marning for Clue Number Two! I figure if I make it to bed tomorrow a.m. by 2:00 I'm a head o'the game! :) Chair-O-Key, '98? I musta lost 10 lbs. from existing on nothing but caffine, nicotine, and adrenaline!!!
Not much happening tonight. I suspect there will be more discussion later on, however. I can only imagine what Clue #2 might say. "No digging on private property, lots of trees, something lit in the background, etc. Anything to describe the surrounding area but so vague that it fits any park. Clipped out today's clue and will have to buy tomorrow's paper.
I've pulled out my binder to start adding new hunting items. Already added the "Treasure Hunter's Guide" to it a few weeks ago. Will have to make sure I have all the latest and greatest maps of St. Paul together for tonight's clue. Can't wait till they give us real good hints.
Hi everyone...wanted to pop in for a sec...had a GREAT time at McGovern's last night. Green it was good seeing you again and it was REALLY nice meeting the new people I hadn't met yet! (And Jake IS a wonder...how he keeps all that information together and in-tact is amazing!) I don't know how much digging I'm going to be able to do this year...probably not much with Tyler due almost any day now.
My thought on the new obsession was the Minnesota Wild...I don't know how that ties in anywhere else, but it was just my first "hunch." But as far as parks, are there any new parks this year???
Hey everyone! Anyone get a chance to see my Medallion Hunter Site? It has a chatroom for all you hunters!! www.medaillionhunt.8m.com
I have exhaustively analyzed today's clue and and am now 100% certain that the medallion has been placed in a park within the St Paul city limits. This is the year that my medallion-seeking magic frisbee shall not/must not fail!

BTW it was great to meet all of you last night (also especially THX! :)). ONLY FOURTEEN HOURS TILL THE NEXT CLUE!!!
Hello again human. Nice to see you back.
'Morning!

Oh MJ, you said you wanted to ask me something at the party, but obviously you didn't get a chance. What was it?
Can you meet me up north?
another year, another search

MJ, yes the SA is not far from Lafayette. It's just West of the 7th Street bridge over 94. Corner of 7th & Wall.
I also heard that the Holiday at Rice & Marion have the four packs.
Tom Thumb stores also have buttons...and Snyder Drug Stores too.
Good Morning!
Dreaming about clues all night. This is gonna be a long two weeks.
Don't you love it?!?!?!?!?!
hi stangers how goes the hunt lol
hi people

Hey everyone, MJ, where up north are you?
