I have been reminded by my 9 yr old that last night, or is it tonight?, is Swedish St Lucia - she plans to wake me up at 4am or something for it- ooooh joy of kids.
Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.
The night goes with weighty step round yard and (stove i.e. house, hearth?) round earth. The sun's departure leaves the woods brooding. There in our dark house, appears with lighted candles Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia.
The night goes great and mute. Now one hears its wings in every silent room murmuring as if from wings. Look at our threshold. There she stands white-clad with lights in her hair Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia
The darkness shall soon depart from the earth's valleys thus she speaks a wonderful word to us. The day shall rise anew from the rosy sky. Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia.
On December 13th, one of the shortest days of winter, girls in Sweden dress up as Santa Lucia wearing a white dress and a crown of candles . Boys carry a candle and wear a kind of white pyjama. They wear hats that are pointy with golden stars on them.
In Sweden we do not wear candles anymore because before girls caught their hair on fire very often. Today we use modern candles with batteries in them.
Won't have as much time to hunt this year, but I do have to look out for my future. Maybe I'll just go out the last day and kick it up with a stick or something.
So I saw my little childhood girl friend today. She lived on my block and we played together until we started 1st grade and went to different schools. We were in high school together, but she was really shy and we hardly said a word to each other until the last day of school when I asked her to sign my year book.
Anyway.....she's a librarian at the WSP library and when I was there the other day I stopped to talk to her. I do that when I'm up there and we've kind of broken the ice again, even though we have very little in common other than our baby years. Well! We're going to go to lunch someday after the holidays! Can I bring my dollies? :pbpt:
ahh! I get your meaning now! I'm sure I'm gonna have a few really tired days! Good thing I'm starting with basic electricity. I already learned it in the army, but they don't recognize the course. So I can be out hunting and still do good in the class hopefully (if I remeber everything)
That is sweet OT. I am still friends with my *best friend* from when I was 4. We keep in contact (mostly me hunting her down so we can) I am the godmother to her son. :pbpt:
We were always very different. However now it's so much so, that if we met today, I'm sure we wouldn't be friends.
Go, enjoy the memories, maybe you two will find something current you have in common - you never know.
What could OT talk about with her childhood friend about the old days anyway? Other than dinosaurs and volcanos, isn't the conversation pretty much over?
The puppy we have is growing like a weed...and is now about 45 pounds.
Tonight he learned a new trick. As I type this, the dog and Inks are playing catch. Inks is throwing the ball. The dog is catching it and then tossing it back.
