Yea I agree. We should know inside our homes if we're going to be nuked.

I would hope they were loud enough.

I don't know how many people are outside hanging around at 2am in the morning that would need a Siren to alert of them of danger.

Especially if there is the standard severe thunderstorm happening that one might normally see with a tornado already in the area.

The problem now is that people have become complacent and just roll over and go back to sleep due to their over use. Maybe they should have different sounding sirens for weather and civil defense.

and if it's 2pm and you are standing in the middle of the street in the rain, hail and lightning... then you deserve to be hit by a tornado provided we can get one down your way.

It's the same thing with the weather alert tests that have to be done once a month. People bitch about it messing with whatever show they are watching etc. ]

Then when it really hits the fan these same people call to complain about the actual weather alerts. They get upset that they are forced to see tornados and such heading thier way.

We had to do that in school. Crouch under our desks. Lot of good that would have done us. We had a mock raid at my school. The whole school was taken down to the basement auditorium by the "Nazi's", who were actually the nuns, so the name fit pretty well. :pbpt: Then one by one we were called up to the stage and asked if we believed in God. They told us beforehand that if we said yes we would be killed, but if we said no we would be spared. So of course we all said yes and became martyrs. :worried: That must have made the Nazi's (I mean nun's) day. :lipsealed:

You can't make this stuff up.

I caught a few shows about the ways people went though those kinds of drills etc.

Makes for good conversations with my Grandparents.

Why Ouch?

They were born a little before WWII. So all this stuff was in the prime of thier youth. I find it interesting to hear how diffrent the world is from then and now.

You see things in movies and on TV only to relieze that things really were that scary and people really thought about things like that.

Nowadays we make movies about the end of the world like it's nothing.

It explains why my Grandfather is such a WWII buff though.

I was born right in the middle of America's involvement in WWII. Obviously I don't remember any of that as it ended when I was two years old. But there are still some ration coupons around here with my name on them.

I said "ouch" because my eldest grandchild is only ten.

Wed, 12/14/2005 - 2:56 PM Permalink

My GSP has a weather radio - Garmin Rino 130

Handheld GPS with FRS & GMRS two-way radio,

electronic compass, weather channels and barometer blah blah blah.

He he

My Grandfather is 73, Grandmother 72. So whats that... 1932 and 33?

My mom hits 50 next year. I will be 31 in May and my boys are 6 and 7.

I love hearing them talk about things. The cool part is my Grandfather was in Germany while things were still in ruins. He talks about how things were compared to when I was there.

Like talking about night and day.

That's a stupid question, Kitch. Without a GPS, how is OTS going to know where Oz in relation to his house when the tornado hits?

Yeah.... besides the weather radio... that too. :eyeroll:

but I normally have it nearby...

How are you supposed to find your way home from OZ once the tornado hits, Kitch?

I always know where OZ is.

Pay Me

Sysop Notes: We have received $450 since starting this fund raising drive between Dec 1 and 8 and another $150 between Dec 9 and Dec 14. That is, we have received a total of $600 since we said we need your money now. Thanks! Please be patient if your payment hasn't been acknowledged yet as I am overwhelmed at present with time-sensitive commitments.

Able Minds needs at least another $2500 as soon as possible to cover the following: legal bills for trademark work, subcontractor fees, and January's data center colocation fees. This is just to reach a break even fee on current expenses. This doesn't include several thousand in hardware upgrades. It includes nothing for salary for Tim or me, nothing to cover Tim's costs to get the Web Crossing license, and nothing for the hardware recently purchased (a fancy new 10 unit tape loader backup system) and RAM and storage disks that will be purchased (on credit) this month. My guess is that another $6K would cover third-party service fees and hardware costs. We will not turn off the forum regardless (so we're not making threats here and you should worry about the prompt demise of the site), but we will instead be forced to absorb a loss for some time to come if we are unable to receive these payments. So it's up to you to decide whether $10/year or whatever you can donate beyond that is really too much to pay to cover less than the actual costs to operate a service you apparently enjoy if you use it. Keep in mind that just 600 members paying $10 each would yield $6000 in income and get off us to a great start for 2006. So far less than 100 members have paid posting fees. There are over 700 registrations on the site now so close to 700 different people have registered but I don't know how many are active (we could figure it out though). The point is that if everyone using the site now pays $10 as a posting fee, we could be close to achieving our financial goals. And this isn't asking for much more than was pledged by a small number of folks before we started this forum.

man... I leave for a few days... and it just reeks in here...

Whiskey bottles and brand new cars;

oak tree you're in my way.

There's too much coke and too much smoke

Look what's going on inside you.

CHORUS-

Ooh, ooh that smell

Can't you smell that smell?

Ooh, ooh that smell

The smell of death surrounds you.

Yeah.

Angel of darkness is upon you.

Stuck a needle in your arm (you, fool, you)

So take another toke, have a blow for your nose,

one more drink, fool, would drown you. (hell, yeah)

CHORUS

Now they call you prince charming.

Can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes.

Say you'll be alright come tomorrow, but

tomorrow might not be here for you. (yeah, you)

CHORUS

Aw, you, fool, you.

You stick them needles in your arm

I know I been there before.

One little problem that confronts you,

got a monkey on your back.

Just one more fix, Lord, might do the trick.

One hell of a price for you to get your kicks. (hell, yeah)

CHORUS 2x

Oh, you, fool, you

Don't stick those needles in your arm.

You're just a fool, just a fool, just a fool. :pbpt:
