If anyone has any advice on buying and installing remote car starters I would appreciate it.
I want to buy one for my husband for Christmas. I checked Best Buy. The cheapest one they have is $160 and they were going to charge over $200 to install!!!
You can buy remote car starter kits for $50-100 at Sam's club or Northern Tool. But the problem is finding someone to install them. I called our regular mechanic and he said they typically don't install those things and they would charge $90 an hour to do it.(no telling how long it would take)
I heard that they're not good for either the ignition or the starter or something. That's coming from someone who had it removed because of it. Sorry I can't be more of a help.
I bought the one at Sam's a couple of years ago and had it installed last fall. One of my daughter's works at a place where they have a fleet mechanic and he did the work for me. If you have a good battery and your starter is good, they work fine. I loved it. I park my car in the back facing the house and I could just point the thing and the lights would flash and I'd hear it turn over. But guess what. I can't find the dang remote this winter! :worried:
So I guess if you don't have someone to install it, it could get pretty pricey. I've also heard that mechanics think they're a pain in the neck to install. Including the one who did mine.
I didn't work until the kids were out of the house and I got bored to death, but I still managed to buy a Christmas present for my hubby. :eyeroll: :pbpt: You know the old adage: "What's his is mine" ? :goofy:
ETA Wait! Was that a question for tater? Sorry, I might have been confused again. :sheepish: Tater's employed by USPS.
I got mine at Freds Tire out on Hwy 61. About $350 installed. I had one as a gift from my wife and nobody would insall it, unless they sold it. Luckily I could return it to her work (where we got it) or else I would have not been able to return it.
Tater - check alarm shops. My friend out her's man owns a car audio/stereo/alarm place thingy - and she has one. She also got one with installation donated at a raffle prize for our upcoming crab feed. I know lots of people with them built right into their alarm systems and they love them.
It sounds wonderful - I suppose if you set it up right when you get out - you can also have your seats heated and your car defrosted.
My tree almost fell over!! My daughter came over to help me push it farther into the corner and for some reason now it's too heavy for the stand! I stood holding it for about half an hour trying to figure out what to do besides removing all the decorations it's taken me three days to put on. So now it's being held up by a string tied around a nail in the back wall. Not a permanent solution, but my son is coming over soon to replace the nail with a bolt and the string with something stronger.
I guess it wasn't a good idea to buy a tree without a back side. :eyeroll: I thought it was the perfect solution when putting a tree into a corner. Even the tree farm guy liked the idea. Didn't consider that it might be a little heavy on one side. :worried:
I told you! I rigged a string tied to a nail on the back wall. I have some twine in my truck, but I'm afraid to leave the house to get it in case it starts to fall. Going to replace the nail with something stronger too.
I can breath easier now. The son showed up and wired my tree into the wall. He's such a good boy.
I remember one year when I was a little girl, our tree was tipsy. My dad got a hammer and a couple of nails and nailed the stand right through the carpet into the floor! :worried:
that reminds me, I need to make a sign to pin on my back, something to the effect "I have a registered button, find me if you find the medallion and we'll split the extra winnings"
Maybe make it less wordy so it sticks in people's heads...
If you haven't been outside lately you might want to take the journey. The ice crystal light beams are all over the place and that moon is HUGE! And orange. I can't remember seeing it that big before.
Mikey is in upper pen michigan snowmobilign this weekend.....but...we ( he and I ) drove to milwaukee last weekend to see george lynch the man himself play at some industrial bar in the greasy town of cudahy.
I've been busy getting ready for the big event next Sunday. Plus roof raking and snow blowing. Busy at work as well. I see the first part of January as being relaxing.
Drove to Zumbrota yesterday for our cookie baking marathon. I screwed up my spritz recipe. She keeps her powdered sugar in a Tupperware container and I thought it was flour. Couldn't figure out why the dough was so sticky! Who keeps powdered sugar in a canister?? That's why it comes in zip lock bags!
Got lots of cookies made though. I'll have to do the spritz here at home.
huh?? who cares?? why are you even looking at your work email??
heck I'd sign them up for all kinds of spam...

It might have been just a certain model though.

Never mind.
Still, I think given some time I could install one, can't be that hard.
