I can't get the link back, but I read it the same way Rick did.

Like I said, I don't care if Vikings fans are racist or not.

I honestly don't think Daunte cares either.

"I don't care if Vikings fans are racist or not."

You don't care about racism? Do you have the same attitude about it in other segments of society?

You're pretty proud of your indifference to sports, aren't you?

THX 1138

You care about racism?

Yes. Of course I do. I'm all for it. More racism for everyone! That's what I always say!

Do you have the same attitude about it in other segments of society?

Probably not.

I think Daunte's got nothing to complain about, that's all.

You're pretty proud of your indifference to sports, aren't you?

I'm not indifferent at all, but don't get me started....

How does one judge racism in a sports team?

You said you didn't care....several times. What do you think "indifference" is?

I'm indifferent to this specific non issue, not sports as a whole.

But I should watch them on TV, go to the games, buy their jerseys....?

Not if you don't care enough.

I just don't care about this Patrick Reusse nonsense.

Vikings fans in general give Brad Johnson way too much credit and Daunte way too much blame. It makes me sick as a fan myself. Daunte is 10 times the quarterback Brad is, if you ask anyone that understands football they will back this up.

Does racism play into this? I think so. It's not direct racism where someone openly admits that they don't want a black quarterback (see rush limbaugh), but if you look at how the two quarterbacks are treated by the fanbase and then turn a blind eye to the fact that one is black and one is white I think you are making a mistake. People are going to deny it all day, THX is going to blame my "white guilt", but it exists.

Let the flame fest ensue...

I think you're right Tim. Look at the competition that Daunte faced, and the competition that Johnson faced. Daunte faced the three best defenses in the league. Yeah, he did poorly in other games, but they were on the road where it's not easy to win against playoff-caliber teams. Johnson wouldn't have really had a chance against them. I think the big reason that fans were so against Daunte was because there were really big expectations going into this season, and we started out so poorly. Yeah, the defense had some part in it because of their gelling and getting up to speed. Yeah, the line had some part in it because they were also gelling and didn't have the parts it did last year. But Daunte was the focal point because he's the quarterback, he had a huge year last year, and he was giving up so many turnovers. It's not about black or white, it's about winning. We weren't winning then. We're winning now. We were frustrated as fans. Now there's hope. It's a bunch of factors. I'd rather have Daunte around for future years, unless we can get something really good to help our football team as a whole. I don't think that Johnson is the answer though. He's a very good backup at least.

TMK-

I agree with your point about expectations. And by no means am I saying it's all because everyone is racist, I'm just saying that I think it plays a role, and some people are afraid to admit it.

I hope Daunte is back for next year, but it sounds like there is a pretty good chance he won't be ready for the opener because of that knee injury. Brad would have slid...

"Sorry if I enjoy a good football game,,,"

And yet you remain a Vikings fan.

This may reflect poorly on my character, but I find myself wanting to see them win more than ever this year. Just something about listening to blue-nosed types carry on about their duty as role models makes me pull for these sadsacks.

In my opinion, pro football was never a family sport. It was an outlet for guys who wanted to get away from their family. There's a lot of guys who live vicariously through pro football players. In some ways it's probably therapeutic for society. There could be worse things.

I had a really hard time buying harry connick jr for my 'then' 8 yr old last year. she wanted it soooo badly.

I think I may actually agree with the rat on this one to a degree. But... what about us women who love it so muc? I guarentee you that its not to watch their butts. try again :eyeroll:

I tried hard to get my 9 yr old into it- she likes the hype of wearing the uniform colors and having people over for a game but she really could care less to watch it - I think the majority of kids get into the game cause their parents are so excited.

I do howeer know a 12 yr old boy that knows every player on every team - and how they are doing in the game! and he loves it.
