Cheap PCs, anyone?

Google will unveil its own low-price personal computer or other device that connects to the Internet.

Sources say Google has been in negotiations with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other retailers, to sell a Google PC. The machine would run an operating system created by Google, not Microsoft's Windows, which is one reason it would be so cheap — perhaps as little as a couple of hundred dollars.

Bear Stearns analysts speculated in a research report last month that consumers would soon see something called "Google Cubes" — a small hardware box that could allow users to move songs, videos and other digital files between their computers and TV sets.

Larry Page, Google's co-founder and president of products, will give a keynote address Friday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Analysts suspect that Page will use the opportunity either to show off a Google computing device or announce a partnership with a big retailer to sell such a machine.

And that's not the only Google theory out there. Content producers wonder whether Google's push into video search will unravel the economics that make Hollywood hum. If viewers can find and legally download an episode of "Seinfeld" through Google, will that cut into cable and network television's profits?

And what if Google, after equipping cities, starting with San Francisco, with Wi-Fi wireless technology, starts to offer pay-TV service for free?

Still, to date, the company's $123-billion stock market value is based almost entirely on its dominance of one business: global text searches on the Web. Some investors worry that Page and co-founder Sergey Brin could be done in by their penchant for seeing themselves as do-gooders rather than profiteers. But those naysayers are in the minority. Most industry executives and Wall Street analysts believe that Google's search engine business is robust enough to give the young billionaires two or three years of wiggle room to build nifty services first and worry about making money on them later.

I LOVE GOOGLE

A friend offered to sponsor me a couple of years ago, but I was worried I wouldn't finish and would disappoint her. I'll stick with Relay For Life. I did about 12 miles in that one. Lost count somewhere between 40 and 50 laps.

That's great that TC is doing that! Kudo's to TC! 8 of my friends did a team here the last two years. I didn't get to.. :frown: I was stuck in Harvest.

Guys, I think ya'll should do it. I have a friend who lived in St. Small for a while who now lives in Oregon, who puts together men's teams for the Breast Cancer Walk.

I know I can't raise 1k

I know I can't walk 60 miles.

I could probably walk the 60 miles, my problem would be raising money (I really suck at asking people for anything, including money).

as for the google pc, I'm betting the OS is some dirivitive of linux, they'll just spice it up so you don't see it.

same here...

I could do the 60 miles...no doubt, and then some... its the raising money part, that I'd also have a problem with....

we have, for the past 3-4 years gotten a buncha family and friends of family together every year for the susan g. komen, mothers day breast cancer walk....

although I think its a smaller money amount requirement to participate....

Way smaller of a distance too.... I think its like 5 miles, if even that much.

Fundraising isn't that hard you guys, you just have to believe you can do it. Did you know that the majority of large company's (i.e. the walmarts, targets, etc) have a HUGE community budget that often isn't tapped every month? The reason they have those is to make nice with the locals, so they don't piss off the community when they move in with their lower prices and shut down the mom and pop stores.

3. Finding my first job for my first candidate, who starts monday

4. This being my last post

5. AW beating me to the punch, but still writing an eloquent post

6. Knowing the people who I really care about will still know how to contact me

10. An agreement with Vino - that sometimes, things just start to click.

Get it straight - there are no "former" CC members. Joe Medallion was a nuisance. No one ever claimed him as a member.

People might choose to check out of these boards, but they are always welcome to return.
