I'm all rested up and heading up to Roseville to wander thru a park with Ian.

I've got another spot to check out after that. I'll see you all down at the paper later, GW if I get done early enough.

Crossing my fingers that tonights clue helps us confirm park. I like Highland right now, but see the value in the arguments for BC and a few others.

as long as the medallion ends up at Highland or BC, I am going to have to say this could be the best clue we have seen in a long time!

I'm suprised no one (atleast that I saw) said anything about the obvious, albeit silly word play combining the 2 words "hill" and "and"...

hilland=highland?

along with a bunch of other scottish stuff and tent stuff I think highland is the way to go. KISS, I'm sticking with the obvious answer.

I was bonding with her.

She's wonderful.

Best 81 dollars I ever spent.

I'm still going with my long-time trusted method:

once I have to pee, while in the park, thats where its going to be found... Its happened 3 years in a row....

Looks like im in agreement with Kitch that it is hidden in Battle Creek Park.

I like the fact that the roads match and it is not a stretch. Secondly I think the 4th clue is referencing the elevation changes in the park. The clue is telling you to search Hill & Glen = High and Low. This works great with the sandstone cliffs in Battle Creek located in the second and third zones of the park accordding to the Treasure hunt guide.

the only problem I have with BC is the tent thing.

That is the 1st I heard that and it's really good and simple!

Is there horseshoe pits at Battle Creek. You Pitch a Horseshoe.

some crap from PP

brave of heart=william wallace, who was a valiant of the highlands in scotland.

the flower of scotland=an unofficial national anthem about william wallace:

O Flower of Scotland

When will we see

Your like again,

That fought and died for

Your wee bit Hill and Glen

And stood against him

Proud Edward's Army,

And sent him homeward

Tae think again.

===============================

Clue #1:

to shorten your winter pursuit

shorten: is the same as abridge.

So, maybe by a bridge?

I predict a picnic/pavilian clue tonight.

Something that doesn't distinguish between BC and Highland. To me this clue says that it's either BC or Highland and the cluewriter is going to make the other a decoy. With the lack of snowcover you can throw out the previous ideas that if it's a big park they have to give it to us early, think Cono in 03. I wouldn't be suprised if we don't have a strong idea of which park it's in until the weekend at earliest.

But then again, who knows.

Ugh I was really set on highland but Battle Creek really fits to with out much stretching of the clues. I'm going to have to scope them both out after work in the morning. I won't be able to do any serious digging until Monday morning then I'm off until Thursday night. So PWEEEZE don't find it early this year I wanna get some real hunt time in! I might fit in some time this weekend if I can talk the hubby into taking the girls up north with him.

What about Robert Burns and his poems about Afton Flow, that easily refs Upper and Lower Afton?? Does anybody think the same?

heres the funny thing about all of this BC and Highland talk today... Ive only had 2 questions asked about parks in the past 6 months at work...one was about Battle Creek the other was about Highland!!!!

so far though, neither answer has really come up in a clue.

Robert Burns is a Scottsman Poet and He has written poems about William Braveheart Wallace and his street BURNS St is on the north side of the park. Green mentioned it earlier.
Wed, 01/25/2006 - 5:38 PM Permalink

Robert Burns also wrote a poem called afton flow.

oooh geeez---

that actually doesnt sound bad -double steppin it though
Wed, 01/25/2006 - 5:40 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

I guess that is a possibility, but I personally think it's too many steps.

1) Brave of Heart/Ken= Scottish

2) Scottish= Robert Burns

3) Robert Burns= Afton Flow

4) Afton Flow= Lower/Upper Afton

but that's just my take on it

I wouldnt mind going back to BC- theres a wonderful view of the river from there

BC's question had to do with the battle and how it became a park- I pretty much made a whole summary on it- (which I think is in my truck  )

Highlands question was 'how did Highland get its name'

brave of heart --> Wallace --> Burns

the hill and glen streets to the SE

"Pitch a tent if that's your bent" may be fluff

and a ken is a grassy area that's not bordered by fence(s) or hedge(s) - the area of BC near the hill and glen streets

I had really hoped it was highland vs battle creek because its closer lol but I really see them leading to BC more and more but I guess we will see what tonights clue has in store for us.

The William Wallace legend and the popularity of the Braveheart movie owe much to a 15th century epic poem by Blind Harry (Harry the Minstrel).

Burns took the title of "Scots Wha Hae," one of his most famous airs, from Blind Harry. In "a pitch of enthusiasm on the theme of Liberty and Independence," Burns has Wallace join poetic forces with Robert the Bruce against all things British:

Scots, wha hae wi Wallace bled,

Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,

Welcome to your gory bed

Or to victorie!

Now's the day , and now's the hour:

See the front o battle lour,* Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â [look menacingly],

See approach proud Edward's power --

Chains and slaverie!

Wha will be a traitor knave?

Wha can fill a coward's grave?

Wha sae base as be a slave? --

Let him turn, and flee!

Wha for Scotland's King and Law

Freedom's sword will strongly draw,

Freeman stand, or Freeman fa',

Let him follow me!

By Oppression's woes and pains,

By your sons in servile chains,

We will drain our dearest veins,

But they shall be free!

Lay the proud usurpers low!

Tyrants fall in every foe!

Liberty's in every blow! --

Let us do or die!

I better not see that thing out in the dark woodsy parts of any parks....

after seeing that picture, I have these visions of something like Chucky from the Childs Play movies coming after me with a shovel he just stole from his latest victim.....
