2006 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Holiday ("red letter day") Station is at McNight and Lower Afton at the border of Maplewood and St Paul. "Not left in a lurch" could mean not to the left (west) in St Paul, but in Maplewood.

Do you think "pitch" could mean the stucky stuff from a pine tree so maybe around pine tree's?
Thu, 01/26/2006 - 6:41 AM Permalink
Terry

New Daddy - I liked that Maplewood noodle.

I think pitch could be any number of things...baseball, horseshoes, sap, "pitch in" is the phrase used on some trash cans...

The list of possibilities doesn't narrow down the search, but something to keep in mind.

I know you can see Famous Daves & Mickeys but the clue says Red Letter Singular which makes me think 3M because it is only one letter

The term "red-letter day" originates with the tradition of marking holy days in a church calendar in red. We use the term here to designate days of special significance in each month -- holidays, astronomical happenings, anniversaries of historic events, and days with memorable folklore attached.

what really sucks...this guy is considered a highlander 2......

currently my list has really grown

I'm almost better to tell you what parks I'm not going to be hunting in --yikes...

Lilydale off my list

well, if the hunt is supposed to have us scratching our heads, why not? wouldn't be the first time its happened. battle creek 1995 for instance where the first letter of each clue stanza created a "clue within a clue" according to boxmeyer.

I remember that year and it was found early like clue 6 or 7.

yup. boxmeyer wrote about it in his article on sunday. the women who found it said they'd been waiting for the clue writers to do that for years.

Keep in mind the clue said a RED LETTER, not LETTERS. The Pearsons Sign, Famous Daves, and the Highschool letters are LETTERS, more then ONE- the clue says LETTER which means ONLY ONE.

I'm just throwing this out there - I know it's a stretch, but my husband noodled this.

Red letter - there is a red letter K on every box of Kelloggs cereal. And Kellogg cereal is based in Battle Creek, Michigan.

You know this could also solve the childs prolocctives clue. I don't know of a kid that does not look foward to its box of Kellogs in the morning.

I still thing child's proclivities is sledding, or a playground.

Quick break here....working sucks during the hunt. My heart is in the parks. My mind is on the clues. My body is sitting here in the office. Something is wrong with this picture!

I think that is a very good idea, Mikey. I am sure one of the guys who knows how to do that will get it done soon.
Thu, 01/26/2006 - 9:13 AM Permalink

ares - you're quick. After the hunt, I need to learn more about all that stuff.

I'm thinking the "stay within your ken" might be the subtle, It's in St. Paul clue without coming out and saying it.

That thought crossed my mind too. I dunno I'm torn on where to look today. I gotta get out soon though, it's sooo nice out.

i'm thinking that too. they know about our discussion boards; they know about our tools (thg and history guide). makes sense to me.

I agree Terry. Have to get through tomorrow and then I'm outta here. It's really hard to concentrate and get any real work done.

Too nice out, even the big snow drifts could be gone by the weekend.

I heard we might also get a rumble of thunder possible with some rain later tonight.

Can someone please tell me I'm in in saine- but this is driving me nuts. When I read the new clue, I'm always seeing a hidden message if "If you don't do this". Please tell me I'm not crazy, but they did the same think in 2004 in Phalen with Its a Prank.
Thu, 01/26/2006 - 9:25 AM Permalink
tom

Look back to 2003 in Como. Even after the final clue, the newspaper fetcher was able to drive over to como, and it ended up he was the one that found it. I think with no snow its going to be harder to locate the puck, because physicaly we will not dig when we see leafs and compost, thinking the PP will hide it under snow. Look on the brite side, if they hid it in a pepperment patty candy, a rodent could of ate it already.

Can we change the cooler kid on the top to a kid with shorts/tshirt on??

I'm just waiting for the smart drunk lady to come on and tell us what park she thinks its in.

start in clue four and read 1st words only:

searching

pitch (pine tar)

but

if

you

dont

this....

Probly nothing...but noted
Thu, 01/26/2006 - 9:31 AM Permalink
Med2k

if they hid it in a pepperment patty candy, a rodent could of ate it already.

...or a donut

But even in that Como year it was encased in ice. Unless they went the same route (which would need to be extremely thick ice to start), it's likely sitting on top or near the surface of those leaves.

smart drunk lady

which one?
Thu, 01/26/2006 - 9:33 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

heh....

and its been a while since they've done something like that.

I honestly would hope that by now, they'd be smart enough, to know that if they want a hunt to last longer, the first word in every line trick, wont help at all.....
