What are you wearing?
Nonetheless, had you been there, I know we could have counted on you as we could the folks at the press conference.
Bottomline, GREAT!!!
GREEN!
Jeans and something green. Also, my green tennies, my green panties, my green soxes...
the medallion was frozen originally in a huge chunk of ice because after the rain and melt the chunk was still quite large
It was found near the top of the larger sledding hill further away from the rec center in an open field with prairie grass nearby, but not actually hidden in the praire grass. Apparently some are mad that it was in a field and not in the woods - way too obvious after the melt.
It was about 15 feet away from the tornado siren.
Foursome finds Treasure Hunt medallion at Battle CreekThree St. Paul high school students, with help from one of their dads, followed the clues this morning to Battle Creek Park, where they found the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion after searching for about 45 minutes. The medallion was found about 9:35 a.m. today in the park on St. Paul's East Side. It was packed in ice and wrapped in a Pearson's Nut Goodie wrapper .
The winners are Joe Barnard, 15; Ian Luby, 14; Kai Peterson, 15; and Kai's father, Scott.
Joe and Kai, who had spent two evenings earlier in the week combing Highland Park with flashlights, decided to try the ice-covered Battle Creek this morning on their day off from school. They were joined by Ian, who decided just last night over dinner with them at Snuffy's Malt Shop with that he would join the pair.
The evidence clearly pointed to Battle Creek, the boys said. One clue including the phrase "searching hill and glen." Two parallel roads in Battle Creek are Hillsdale and Glenridge avenues. A "red-letter day" in Clue No. 5 referred to nearby 3M headquarters, Kai said. The "twixt" reference, too, pointed to 3M, which makes a "bookshelf" game by that name.
They said they were indebted to the sleuths at the online Treasure Hunt forum at www.twincities.com, to point them to the right park.
The teens, who are too young to drive, also relied on Kai's father to be their chauffeur. They first circled a lake, found nothing, then hit a nearby playground where they got distracted by playing on the slides. They finally decided to each take a portion of a steep hill used for sledding. Joe and Ian started poking around a wooded area between two hills. Kai combed the other side of the hill.
"I look down, and I see the Nut Goodie ... inside an ice block," Joe said. "It looked so unnatural."
After smashing the ice brick onto the ground, the wrapper fell out. Inside was the medallion wrapped by a red- and-black garter. The medallion was found after publication of the sixth of 12 clues
Man. So much more room over near the dog-walk area. And plenty o'snow and ice to hide it in. Would have taken forever to find it there.
BAD idea to take the dog with for a walk. She *was* white.....actually, Emily's bathing her now.
We could burn clues again. Nah. Not me. I liked the clues this year! LOL!!!
ah well. what can you do? i can't make the pity party tonite.. but maybe the bash on sunday.
This is my first year on the cooler crew boards and I enjoyed reading all the comments.
Thanks
Matt
So, why not Newell? No gates to shut/close like at Crosby. We could do cheeze brauts on sticks...
I walked out of a meeting today, saw the water dripping down off of the roof and said to myself, "It's gonna be found today." At that point it already had...
Work sucks.
See everyone at GW tonight.       :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

exact spot..
the finders are good kids...
they had fun...all that matters...
and a reg. buttons
good kids, good stuff.
re: the pity party, back in 2000 when Allison and I decided to have it, it was at the park because we didn't know where else to go. now we have a "home" of sorts at GW so that's where I will go. next year I hope that our home is Matty B's, but that's another discussion.
CM will be in contact with the finders to let them know about the RHB, as soon as we figure out where it is for sure.
I got to BC by pure dumb luck.
If that's the case, I'm going to be so disappointed and really sad. It really felt good to understand.
It was a fun Hunt. It was like 'in the day,' because I had things lined up and was tiangulating and it all fit.
And The Med was 1/2 mile away. Bummer.
I'm never gonna get this stuff.
Treasure hunters swarming amidst global warming
Make it hard to park our loot.
Look for snow and ice,
enough to suffice,
To shorten your winter pursuit.
Explanation: Our winter is mild, without much snow. The prize is hidden in a park. Hunters should look for areas with enough snow and ice to cover the medallion.
Clue No. 2
Son of Pear, hometown fare,
The nut of this year's quest.
Sweetest patty, never a baddie,
Covers the prize at rest.
Explanation: Pearson's Candy Co., based in St. Paul, is the maker of the Nut Goodie, and its wrapper covers the medallion.
Clue No. 3
Men with a garter
should have been smarter
Than to mix drink with their vulcanic activities.
You would be wise
to look for the prize
By taking up a child's
proclivities.
Explanation: A red garter — a reference to the infamous “garter ritual” that got the Vulcan Krewe leader in trouble last year — is wrapped around the medallion. It is near a sliding hill behind Battle Creek Elementary School and rec center, a favorite of neighborhood children.
Clue No. 4
For the brave of heart,
it's time to start
Searching hill and glen.
Pitch a tent if that's your bent
But stay within your ken.
Explanation: “Brave” and “tent” refer to Indian braves, who fought the battle in 1842 for which Battle Creek Park is named. Hill and Glen refer to Hillsdale and Glenridge avenues near the park. The Scottish reference to “Braveheart'' also alludes to nearby 3M, known for its Scotch brands.
Clue No. 5
If you're aerobic and hardly tree-phobic
You might make your outing pay.
Don't be left in a lurch, do your research,
This could be your red-letter day.
Explanation: The medallion is located on a hill, requiring a stiff climb, near some oak and pine trees. The “red letter” refer again to the 3M sign, visible from the hill.
Clue No. 6
On a whim you may take a swim
Or go in and out of the woods.
Twixt high and low, we hope there's snow
To cover up the goods.
Explanation: There is a water park at Battle Creek, which is both inside and outside of the city of Maplewood. The third line refers to Upper and Lower Afton roads, which are the north and south borders for the park.
Clue No. 7
Not west, but East, lies the feast.
Here you searchers must tarry.
Stay in St. Paul, near basket and ball
Where a medallion owner would bury.
Explanation: While the park is in St. Paul, it is on the East Side, not far from Woodbury. Our hiding spot is near the Battle Creek rec center, which has a basketball court.
Clue No. 8
You're off the mark if you stray from a park
And miss the point of it all.
Tips are legion in the region
Up to the verge of St. Paul.
Explanation: Reference to Point Douglas Road in Battle Creek, which is a regional park on the border of the city.
Clue No. 9
The father, the son and one other one
Lost their lives near this watery place.
But now there's fun where those killins' were done
Woods, hills and wide open space.
Explanation: An attack by the Chippewa on a nearby Sioux village killed Sioux Chief Kaiboka, his son and one other tribe member. A battle raged along the creek, and it became the source for the name “Battle Creek.''
For Ph.D-level clue solvers, there is also a buried reference to Bob Dylan's “Highway 61 Revisited,'' in which ‘God' asks Abe to “kill me a son,” and Abe wants to know where he wants “this killin' done?” Highway 61 borders Battle Creek park.
Clue No. 10
Once the home pristine of Mr. McLean,
It was named by a dealer in teas.
In order to stake her, he gave 30 acre,
Did this man who so did love trees.
Explanation: The pristine area of Battle Creek was once a community named after Nathaniel McLean, a newspaper publisher, Sioux agent and veteran of the War of 1812. But the name Battle Creek was suggested by William McMurray, a coffee and tea dealer, who gave 30 acres to the city for the park in 1922.
Clue No. 11
Roaming like cattle near the creek of the battle
Let Winthrop be your pleasure.
Yon mount is better, above skier and sledder,
Twixt pines and poles sits the treasure.
Explanation: Battle Creek is identified, as is Winthrop Street, the mountain above ski trails and sledding hills, and a location between a stand of pines and two light poles.
Clue No. 12
Find and seek in Battle Creek
Near a center for athletic skill.
Out the door to the south, scarf over your mouth
Climb atop yon sliding hill..
Two posts can be seen, a wire between
Form a line heading to a row of pines.
Twenty-six strides straight, six to the left.
In the brow of a hill you will find,
Oh ye who were fickle, our medallion-sicle
Wears an iceberg disguise.
The package, as we said, is swathed in bright red
If the Afton's define the boundaries of BC, then The Med was *not* found in the Park!
Unless... So, *was* it found on the St. Paul side, or the Maplewood side? The hill north of the pavillion?
I'm very confused!
Was it on the St. Paul side? Then the Afton's would define.

Oh. Well. *Maybe* next year.
At least I got #2 rite.
So. hmmm.
I just took Mon-Wed nights off of work! This sucks. We were gonna hook up with my Sister and Brother in law and then find a group of cousins that were hunting tonight. Bummer.
I don't have time to slog through 300 posts right now, but I'll say that I can't believe it was found in 6 clues in a place like Battle Creek. Thought it would have been a little further in the woods.
Of course I'm feeling a little like a spoil sport right now.
