At 10:00 tonight, WCCO news is doing a report called "Secrets of the Medallion" and talks about hiding it, the clues, etc. should be interesting.

Let me break out my map, THG, and log on to St Paul Parks and Rec and I'll do a little research and get back to you...it'll get me something to do NOW THAT THE MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND.

You know folding clothes and watching Spongeback Squarepants with my daughters was not what I imagined I'd be doing tonight when I woke up this morning.

Is it me, or is it when ever the hunt ends early that some punk kid found it while heading out with their parents to look? And to the PP, WTF are you guys thinking?? Shame on you on giving a street name, and the 3M buildings in a clue this early in no snow. You had a good start on getting peeps to Highland- and why is it every freaking time you refrence the 3M building!!!! Everytime you can see the 3M building from the hidden park, you talk about it. Common Joe, we all know the clue writer on drugs wrote better clues then the new dude.

I think you got to give PP and the Clue Writer more credit Tom. First of all, ANY year where there is less snow the medallion is likely to be found earlier. Plus, this hiding and clue writing business has to take months of planning. It's not like he or she can all of a sudden change tracks and change the hidding spot just because the forecast calls for warm weather.

Would you rather we were all led on to Highland for 10 clues and then bait and switch to Battle Creek??? I think the clue writer tried that a couple years ago and got mobbed. The year later he called us the "crueler crew".

I say, Kudos the the clue writer. You have the most difficult and thankless job in Ramsey County. Keep up the good work (not that you'll ever read this...) If it goes to clue 12 you get torn apart for letting people have a chance at it who've only been looking for 10 minutes. If it goes 6 clues you get ripped to shreds for making it to easy.

IT'S MOSTLY A MATTER OF LUCK!!!

I disagree that the clues were horrible, but I am disapointed in the cluewriter. This is why: it was hidden in a HUGE chunk of ice that was very unnatural. The kids reported it to be about 1 foot by 1 foot by 1 foot, and this is after a day and half of 50 degree weather and a night of rain. Also the medallion was not in the middle, which adds the the theory that the iceblock melted quite a bit. So they lugged a huge chunk of ice out there and just lumped it down inbetween the 2 sledding hills (the only area of the park with ANY traffic other than the hunt), snow or no snow that is gonna stick out like a sore thumb. It's a suprise that none of the kids sledding saw it to be quite honest with you. It was amongst long grass, why not take some of the grass and wrap the medallion in it, then hide it under some more long grass and stomp it down, throw some snow on top and you are set for a 10-12 clue hunt unless someone gets really lucky. This is wildgrass that is not maintained so he cares if it gets torn out by some rakes?

To be quite honest I think the original intent was to take that thing back into the woods where it may not have been found and the cluewriter/hider got tired and just dropped it off there, that thing must have been heavy in its original form, and going up that hill is very aerobic.

I'm reading an article in today's PP about an auction of Winter Carnival momorabilia that was held Monday evening. Did any of the collectors here go, and if so, get anything good?

If Tom is like me he is still working through the various stages of grief. I'm still languishing in Anger, blaming the clue writer, the boss-man, that guy who looked at me funny earlier today.

I expect to be Bargaining sometime tommorrow, "I promise to be a better person if I can just find the medallion once".

Sometime on Tuesday Depression will set in, as I realize I won't be goin to the PP that evening for the second to last clue.

Thursday afternoon, Acceptance rolls in and I'll once again be in perfect Harmony.

fwiw Jake offered to put up 500 of his cash if the PP got a sponser to match with 500 and do a 2nd hunt with 6 clues and they declined, I think that would have been cool.

That is way weird, Ian, about the two locations of the puck in BC the 2 different years.

And I won't be able to get the the RHB until after 12 either, maybe 1; son has special olympics event until 1, so maybe i cant get there til 1:30. DARN.

Boy, I learned a whole lot from that report.

I did see that Cooler Crew Chick on there tho.

Which Cooler Chick, Ian?

Only thing that I learned was that the clue writers could change the clue if they wanted to before the paper came out. Interesting. And puposely confusing people.

I thought it was interesting that he said that the clues can be changed at any time if the clue writer thinks the hunters are getting too close. I've always wondered about that.

Even my husband is bummed out. He didn't even get a chance to go out and scout with me. He wants me to take him tomorrow to see where it was found. I feel drained. Not physically - emotionally.

Yeah I didn't even get my shovel in the car yet. I do what downtown dave does and save my digging energy for later in the hunt. So much for that. :eyeroll: I did scout around BC on thurs, so at least I feel like a participated a little. Why couldn't it be found on Mon?

this sucks......

I'm super happy for the kids that found it and all....for knowing what to do, and for having a fun time, with it....

but what saddens me, is the fact that after having 5 jameson/cokes at the pity party, and then coming here and reading the clue explanations, Im realizing that I was, for the fourth year in a row, on top of/within spitting distance of the damn thing, atleast twice....

poop.

even though I was out, practically every day/night, just like any other year, and even in the right spot, even... it feels like I didnt accomplish anything, even more than it has tons of other years.......

Just one more thing to go along with the many other disappointments that life seems to keep tossing my way, the past crap-load of months.
