Clues for the Medallion Hunt
Each Day during the week of February 6th through the 10th a new clue will be posted on this page by 8:00 am.
Clue #1
From the Edge I was sent
and on public land I will be found
The Hunt is on, Good Luck to you
Did I mention there's a red tassel too?
Clue #2
A shovel you will not need
A gentle lift to the sky and you will see
This was once a movie ground
But now there's a treasure waiting to be found.
Clue #3
Postcards are fine, but we're a little blue
Mr. Snowman medallion, where are you?
Not to worry with the Spring thaw
The will return from his travels as good as new.
But lets not let Mr. Snowman down,
this year's medallion is on the ground.
Clue#4
Much like the cows of the roaming free era
There is plenty to explore in this area.
And by finding this envelope you too will be
A piece of North St. Paul history.
Found by me2 on Feb. 9th, 2006 about 3ish-pm --$400

Only probable place that might have a prairie sign is the urban ecology center. Southwest corner of 36 and McKnight.
edit (never mind. No I didn't)
No probably not, it was an old Sod farm. Edging? Sod? Too easy....
omg...that is our level of complicated...
sod farm park and wetland
Checked the urban ecology center. Walked every trail I could find, only found one set of signs talking about the ecology of the place (nothing on the signs themselves, I'm not sure how much they want people digging around plants and things). The best spot I found was a platform/deck at the top of the hill. Found lots of garbage, checked an m&m's wrapper for me2's sake (nothin in it). Found a short bench at the bottom of the hill, had my name on it... weird.
Also checked the south end of Southwood. Looks like someone had been there today, looking around the deck. Drove around northwood and Hause, didn't seem to be too different from the other evening. Quickly checked Tower, found a cache, that was about it though. Waypointed the entrance to the community center and Franklyn Park (it has a park sign, but is almost worse than Rotary park).
Walked the perimeter of Casey Lake Park, just for the heck of it. Saw two people on the north side of the park with flashlights (possibly hunting?). Gonna cover more ground tomorrow, but I gathered the rest of the info for my map. Posting the image soon as I get it finalized.
Green line is the gateway trail. The "Tree" icons are the park signs. Cars are parking areas, the yellow box in the UEC is the platform I was looking at. The Bold Blue line is the city border.
This one should provide an OK overview, hopefully it'll be of some use.
If you find any missing, let me know.
Hey, can someone put the clues at the top so I don't have to go looking for them...thanks :pbpt:
I should load my GPS with those NSP caches, if I'm gonna be out there might as well find something :eyeroll:

Earlier I figued out what the first line of clue one was, why edge was capitalized. It's a play on words, J said that the new med looks like a post card. Postcards from the Edge was a movie....
...so I can move from edgecombe and highland??
And the giant Snowman will always be creepy.
silver lake or dorothy..
I'm guessing not a park :frown:
if it's a post card this year, you can hide something like that virtually anywhere.
Think I'm gonna check out downtown this evening.. public land can be very vague.
The old jubilee foods grocery store (seems abandoned now, maybe public?), the post office (why not?), Oops theatre (they're moving), the history center (too bad I couldn't be there in the daytime, wish I knew where an old theater or movie location was).
Mr. Med are you going to be out looking tonight? Was thinking I should meet up with you this week to see if I could get a copy of that boxmeyer radio interview.
I would have found a postit note at least
My first thought was I would look under/around mail boxs.
The trouble is this year they have a new medallion (which they haven't actually stated, the text on the site still mentions the metal one) and the clues are much shorter, about the same size as the pioneer press clues. So who knows what they're thinking in terms of hiding it?
I'm also troubled by the postcard.. You can hide a postcard anywhere, it's flat.
I'm going to Cub tonight and I want to turn them in to try for free grub.
plus the post card doesn't need to be the size it appears...it could be like 1x3
Those always bugged me. Especially since I write like crap.
GL2Uall........
....pm me....
Back from searching, no luck here either. I did find some interesting information on the "Ooops!" theatre building. Seems it must have been an old masonic lodge, it's got the symbols on the building.
Ooops is moving, they're across the street from Sandburg mortuary presently ("A shovel you will not need"?). This is also kitty-corner from the old jubilee grocery store (I can't remember, but thought a movie might've used that store for a scene once, maybe not though). I checked any bit of public property in that general area, even walked down to Rotary park, not sure why but someone cut part of the rotary park sign off.
I expect the morning's clue will throw everyone somewhere else though.
