2006 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by KITCH on
Clue #1
Thar's stories told thar's pirate's gold
Stolen from ye olde martyr's stock
To make yer haul, go search St. Paul
You'll find the key is in the lock

Clue #2
The Chinook wind blows, and the gray sky snows
As weary pirates seek shelter from the storm
Just how much treasure will make yer pleasure?
Thar’s a lot nearby but it shan’t make ye warm

Clue #3
A pirate must spy the stars with an eye
And whilst navigating stay ever alert
Misery'd prevail, if ye try to set sail
In a ship aimed towards the rich Shepard's dirt.

Clue #4
“Grub at six bells,” the pirate yells,
Zounds matey, tis nearly time for dinner.
But ye must wit which spot to sit,
Ones nearby might help make ye a winner.

Clue #5
A fire all aglow in me bungalow
Tempts a pirate to spend me time in port
But I’d best set sail and catch a strong gale
To avoid me fateful, dire day in court.

Clue #6
When pirates sail by the sweet lorelei
Aye, a careful prayer they must be keepin’
For her tempting call could well end it all
And with the dead soldiers they’d be sleepin’.

Clue #7
“The way that be best to open ye chest
Is to use a key”, the old pirate yawned.
Disappoint it may, would you perhaps say,
To be findin’ out the key had been pawned?

Clue #8
Tis a chain methinks fraught with many links
That’s meanin’ yer close enough to smell’er
Ye’d be no dummy hunting this mummy
Aye, lest ye panic and go run yeller.

Clue #9
Skeletons sit silently, having not died violently,
They’re simply sleeping through the winter days.
Listen closely my dear, they say “Treasure is near,
Buts if ye shall claims it, ye can not stays.”

Clue #10
Tis a park ye pursue, t’would be easy to view
If’n ye knew the street whereby cars buzz
But you’ll do just fine if ye get in line
With what be the interstate that never was.

Truth be told, I've never even done one of them. I'm really just going by what I've heard you guys say about some of them in the past. Maybe they've gotten better.

actually.. I think oakdale's was worse last year than 2005. Hoping this year's is better.

White Bear Lake's was decent, at least the clues got you to the right park, they just overdid themselves on the hide.

I don't know if it needs to 'line' up with a park. Maybe just be by one?

Finally home from work. Dang board meetings.

I thought from the earlier conversation that I would get done slogging and see it had been found.

So I know of one freeway that wasn't finished as a freeway...and I sorta remember another one that was supposed to be another bypass of the cities like the 494-694 one is...but I don't know if I can get that to relate to my park.

Great noodle Nick!

Terry

So line up...parallel? Intersect? Disect?
Tue, 02/21/2006 - 6:16 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

seriously.... I only recall hearing about a cancellation once... they wanted to put one in, pretty much where the new Phalen Boulevard runs, back in the 70's, but that was scrapped, for whatever reason...
Tue, 02/21/2006 - 6:29 PM Permalink
Clue Master

Us older people knew this right off the bat. That's why I think AW thought it would be found quick. I'm heading out now. Still not 100% sure on the park though. but it's narrowed down to two anyway. I'll see what I can come up with.
Tue, 02/21/2006 - 6:55 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

I think that may have been 61 that was suposed to go through by phalen.

The other freeway canceled was the 335.
Tue, 02/21/2006 - 6:56 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

Im not positive, But I dont think it was a continuation of 61.... it was supposed to be one that linked up with 35, from what I remember hearing...

in any case... whats near there? Duluth & Case Rec? anything else?
Tue, 02/21/2006 - 7:04 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

Interstate 335

Interstate 335 was planned as an additional bypass of the Twin Cities; that road was never built. It would have connected I-35W north of downtown Minneapolis westward to I-94 to ease congestion on the Lowry Hill Tunnel on I-94 (but studies later showed that the new freeway would actually have put more traffic in the tunnel). The eastern terminus of I-335 was to be where the Johnson St exit is now on I-35W north of downtown Minneapolis, and the interchange design there is unusual for a surface street, indicating that I-335 did get off the ground slightly before being killed in the 1970s.

Congratulations to the finders!

Mucky took some pictures. Hopefully she'll be able to post 'em later.

Thanks, Allison, for a good hunt. I'm looking forward to seeing all the explanations.

There is disappointment it was found.

There is satisfaction in knowing I noodled that park first.

I wish I coulda gone out tonight, but I had homework I had to do tonight. At least I was close the last couple days.
