2006 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by KITCH on
Clue #1
Thar's stories told thar's pirate's gold
Stolen from ye olde martyr's stock
To make yer haul, go search St. Paul
You'll find the key is in the lock

Clue #2
The Chinook wind blows, and the gray sky snows
As weary pirates seek shelter from the storm
Just how much treasure will make yer pleasure?
Thar’s a lot nearby but it shan’t make ye warm

Clue #3
A pirate must spy the stars with an eye
And whilst navigating stay ever alert
Misery'd prevail, if ye try to set sail
In a ship aimed towards the rich Shepard's dirt.

Clue #4
“Grub at six bells,” the pirate yells,
Zounds matey, tis nearly time for dinner.
But ye must wit which spot to sit,
Ones nearby might help make ye a winner.

Clue #5
A fire all aglow in me bungalow
Tempts a pirate to spend me time in port
But I’d best set sail and catch a strong gale
To avoid me fateful, dire day in court.

Clue #6
When pirates sail by the sweet lorelei
Aye, a careful prayer they must be keepin’
For her tempting call could well end it all
And with the dead soldiers they’d be sleepin’.

Clue #7
“The way that be best to open ye chest
Is to use a key”, the old pirate yawned.
Disappoint it may, would you perhaps say,
To be findin’ out the key had been pawned?

Clue #8
Tis a chain methinks fraught with many links
That’s meanin’ yer close enough to smell’er
Ye’d be no dummy hunting this mummy
Aye, lest ye panic and go run yeller.

Clue #9
Skeletons sit silently, having not died violently,
They’re simply sleeping through the winter days.
Listen closely my dear, they say “Treasure is near,
Buts if ye shall claims it, ye can not stays.”

Clue #10
Tis a park ye pursue, t’would be easy to view
If’n ye knew the street whereby cars buzz
But you’ll do just fine if ye get in line
With what be the interstate that never was.

No, that one meant you would be disappointed if you started searching around the hockey rink.

So did anyone ever actually open the thing?

Ares - those fence lines were traveled and searched several times. One night when I couldn't stop, there was one lone hunter along the fence in about that spot...but I don't remember what side.

There would be no logic in hiding anything in the middle of the field with snow depth or lack there of in question.

I love the small park hunts, great job AW.

I also like you keeping it so close to my house 2 years in a row, how about Sylvan or Northwest Como next year?

Hmmm, so with three winners, I wonder who gets to determine the next hunt? Although I only took in about $240 so there won't be any extra money to worry about.

I vote for "med hunter"

I know med hunter has a hunt ready to go, and jake is going to do a 24 hour hunt.

I don't know if med hunter is going to do his, or when.

I am looking forward to the 24 hour hunt!

I'm doing a 24 hour hunt, from 8am on a Saturday to 6am on a Sunday. I'm open to suggestions as far as what weekend I should do it.
Wed, 02/22/2006 - 11:50 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Wouldn't that be 22 hours?

But it was small, the color of the leaves, and had been moved. That means someone had been on it at least once. And it was out just far enough to not be in the way of a check at the fence line.

That may have been me. I went over that fence line most of the way from home plate to about 1st. I didn't search the very end of the fence and not sure at what point I stopped.

It's getting old walking over these treasures all the time. Guess I better start looking a little more closly.

(edit) Seems there were plenty of people who may have moved it.

I think the last clue comes out at 6am and you have 2 more hours to turn it in. Making it a total 24 hour hunt. Either way I'm assuming that one or 12 clues will take us to a bar anyway. :goofy:

He said he'll release 1 clue every 2 hours. Making it 12 clues total. I also remember him saying something about text messaging people who were paid up. It's sounded like a very cooler idea.

I'd like it to be later in Spring myself. Better weather.

a 24 hour hunt would rock....

It would give me something to do, besides going to wal-mart

And indeed, that was sort of the point, or maybe I should say counterpoint of this hunt, was to have a treasure that didn't yell out "Here I am!" as soon as someone got near it. Other than that, I was actually trying to make the clues as similar to the PP as I could since we didn't get to spend a lot of time on the PP hunt.

Its the opposite over here.... I seem to decipher clues better after I've had like 3 or 4 beers....

same with playing pool, or darts....it gets me in "the zone"

but then I ruin it, by having a few more, and eventually find out that it caused me to walk over the winter carnival medallion 5 years in a row....

I've gotta try and remember to not have the extra beer/alchohol, until after I pick the thing up.

I'm with Nick. I see most of us over noodling the first few clues. Then after some of our buzz kicks in, us drinkers start kicking ass on the noodling. Then when it counts later in the hunt, KC and the others sweep in and rip it away from us because we're napping.

Still sounds fun!

I'd choose Sunday for the post party also. Thanks for the great hunt AW. At first the whole pirate theme was getting to me, but they really were a great set of clues.

Jake will be doing the next hunt. I do have a hunt ready to go, but I think it would be better as a fall hunt. Kitch, thanks for the vote though. Just remember that I'm a sick sadistic bastard and you will all be hating me by the time it's done.

Well I'm caught up on the board. Thanks AW for the hunt, Jake and Me2 for letting me be part of last night, Terry for some fantastic early noodling, (even though I was at Harriet Island on Monday night) Muckluck and CM for the pictures, and CM for the beers and some great websites that I need to visit soon.

"Just remember that I'm a sick sadistic bastard and you will all be hating me by the time it's done."

In my opinion, you have to be sadistic to be a cluewriter. If you want just one person to win in the end because they did the best job of figuring out the clues and hunting for the coin, then you have to be willing to crush every other hunter beneath the wheels of confusion, misdirection, and false hope. When you know it's below zero and someone calls you to tell you how they figured out the clues and they're not leaving the park until they get it, and you know they're in the wrong park, you have to be able to say, "Good luck and let me know if you find it."

Of course you don't want to make it impossible either or have people look at the explanations afterwards and say, "what?" It's a tricky line to walk.

That right there, shows that you're not as mean as you're pretending to be....

If you were, you'd simply laugh at them and hang up.

So should we say Sunday at 5pm? Would Gabe's be a good place to meet since it's close to the park?
