On the subject of weather, this time of year always reminds me of the Winter Carnival, the struggle between the vulcs and the coldies. The world seems to be fighting into a full bloomed spring, and then occasionally we get inches of snow dumped like artillery from King boreas as a last bit of revenge on the way out of town.

That seems to be the case. For a week or two I can see the driveway and just as the grass starts to peek out we get massive whiteout.

The ice on the lake is pretty good now though. For a while it was questionable for even walking on.

I was a little surprised that those coyotes went out on the pond in our back yard... there is some open water on part of it already.

It was in the low 80's here last weekend and early this week (exceptional for Feb)

Now it's in the upper 60's low 70's. (still exceptional)

by Friday it will be in the low 60's upper 50's (typical)

the sad thing is -most of August was in the 63-64 range, when it should have been like 92-96.

I'd be happy if the temps were consistently 50-70 all year long. Actually I could stand it a bit colder than that, but I figure I need to compromise with the rest of the population

Well, it's pretty dang close 50-80 with spuratic days of 90's peppered in June - August so 11 months of the year - with (surprisingly) September usually being our hottest month of more days being 85 and above the last 4 years.

This years 70+ stayed until the first week of November (nice but odd)

Usually here when it rains, it stays in the 60's so even if it's wet out, it's never really that cold.

but you will still hear me complain, cause well, I'm aclimated now - and to me it's damn cold!

that's certainly not why we went there. i remember hearing stuff about weapons of mass destruction. and as for fighting al qaeda over there. the white house has never mentioned links. now, if we were fighting in saudi arabia, i might believe it...

health insurance premiums doubling!!!

we either pay twice as much monthly with copays increasing from $15 to $35 EACH VISIT!!! and prescriptions from $24 to $36

OR paying what we are now monthly and paying our own full payment going into the doctor up to $4000 a year and everything over that is covered!!!

WTF%(*#&%_(@#&%@_($#&^_$^&$^$)%&#)%&)%$*#@^_$@

the only good thing is we can pay dental out of the account BUT it doesnt get deducted from the $4000!!!!

watching friends, throw their lives down the drain because of drug problems, and not being able to do a damn thing to help save them.....

things/people that you've known for as long as you can remember, changing so much in a year - a year in which you barely saw them - that you barely recognize them anymore....

having the idiots decide this week that they want to sell the puppy again...

only this time they are asking over 2 times the original price offered to me.

I told them good luck. I can go to any breeder and get a black lab for nearly 200 less than what they want, AND it will be a smaller puppy.

I wish, our shelters are packed with pit bulls, but it's rare to find a lab there.

When I got my Yellow Lab there (7 years ago) he was a rare find and when I went back to get another pup (4) years ago, there still weren't any labs.

That's too bad. The shelters here a full of them. Even puppies. My sister got a yellow lab at a shelter for $60. Turned out to be a great hunting dog. They also have a rescued Britney that they take hunting.

I suppose labs end up in shelters in regions where people tend to do more hunting. People get them in the hopes of using them, but don't have the time or patience to train them properly, so they dump them at shelters. My sister talked to a professiong gundog trainer and he said labs can be really squirrely and hyper when they're young, and sometimes they aren't even trainable until they get to be 2 or 3 years old.

Pay Me

Looking at dogs at the shelters now they are no longer $60. They go between $200-$300 depending on the breed/age and so forth. I think with the prices rising you will begin to see less dogs being adopted out!!

hyper and squirrely? heh. My lab when he was 6 mo old, went to doggie school to put him on the training collar, I had to wrestle him like an alligator - as a pup he pulled me into a pond to get a flock of ducks, off a dock (to go swimming) and through a beach full of gravel (to get a dropped ice cream cone) thankfully he's calmed down (90% of the way) but he's 7 now..

I'd still not trade him for the world tho.

Actually that's still a bargain when you stop to think about it. The adoption fee includes all the vaccinations up to date, a health check, and a spay or nueter. Those things cost hundreds of dollars on their own. Anyone whose bought a puppy knows how much it costs in vet bills just for the first year. In my experience with adopting pets, the larger mixed breed dogs cost the least, and smaller pure bred dogs cost them most at shelters. It's basically a supply/demand thing. Shelters lose money on all the large dogs so they have to make up for them with the small dogs.

irritates - idiots. People who you have been copying on emails since the dawn of time re: planning something. Who come back to you last minute cause they haven't read any of the previous emails, saying, who, what, where -

and then get pissed off at you - when you tell them to look down at the email they are replying to, as it's ALL THERE.
