and I'm guessing you don't have helicoptors over your house with spot lights - all the cars on your street with broken windows - ditto for all the businesses along the next street over where they celebrate - cruise up and down and shoot one another.
I just don't understand this. Any opportunity I get to make money I take, especially if it's my earned money to begin with and I get it back. Why wouldn't you?
Hey Bear - Any chance that you could keep an eye open for something for my wife? She has an insurance background (underwriting, claims adjusting, customer service etc) Or the same with a reputable company too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Reality Bites us babe - - and it sucks big time man!
We pay the man - then we owe the man and if we need from the man (god forbid), even just a little something, we can not get a damn thing 'cause "you make to much!"
My new motto (empty nest) is fuck the man!! :worried:
The March - that would be tonight - there are 3k people (expected) to march down the street next to my house (the one they usually destroy at Cinco de Mayo)
CM - I don't have problems with the battle of Puebla, but I know I won't see any of my vineyard crew on May 6th..
no. they did the walk tonight. It's pouring buckets of rain down right now, which I think squelshed any fighting for tonight.
the 5th of may is cinco de mayo - which is the battle of the puebla actually. It's not a holiday in mexico oddly enough - more of an chicano thing than anything. It's cool. I love cinco de mayo - until I try to get home and there are gangs and fights and stuff
those are great egg ideas (nice trade idea on the wine too)
It appears that there is a gym that has been offered instead - the egg hunt will be different, but we will be able to have the face painting and photos with the bunnies etc.
I went out earlier to check the field and slipped and slid through it. My shoes are trashed. heh. fun tho.
exercising and selling stock options is like that too, cm. you gotta be perfectly careful to have exactly the right amount of taxes taken out of the option distribution
I was actually impressed. I walked up to the corner and they were all carrying american flags. today when I went to work, nothing was destroyed (unlike cinco de mayo parties)
If they turn that into a felony - you can expect wine prices to triple - maybe quadruple. I don't see any white men wanting to get out there and pick grapes.
This would only be for a day. We laid off so many people over the last year that we have tons of former employees wanting back in. Unfortunately, they're all Mexican as well and couldn't help us on that day.
people who get their knickers in a twist, jump to conclusions and involve people they shouldn't. Then when they look the fool - get mad at you (for not stopping them?)
umm yea. They really should just be deportees, but, whatever it takes. Of course even if you deport them, they just stroll back across the border with no problems. I can't blame them for coming really, since we offer them so much.
Seems theres no incentive to obey the law and no fines for employers that hire them. And god forbid we actually guard the border or anything stupid like that. :eyeroll:
Perhaps if we made a legal way for them to come here and work that was actually easy to obtain we wouldn't have the problems we do. I'm not just referring to mexican labor. It's often a problem for my Australian interns. Green Cards aren't easy to come by, and many of the people who have them have spent up to 2 years here (illegally) trying to obtain them.
The problem with putting them as felons, we tie up our jails. The problems with not having them - we lose much of our manual labor that others don't want to do.
Its a very much a slippery slope. I can't fathom what our produce, and much of or agriculture costs would skyrocket to, if they had to use alternative resources for farming.
p.s. I think it's a little harder than strolling across the boarder to come back. People risk their lives, and often never see their families again to come here for an opportunity for a better life.
At least when they are Illegal, they spend the money they make here - in this country as they don't have the luxury of crossing back and going home for the off season.

What I've heard is that you could raise the wages by 40% for them and it would only raise the prices of vegies by $100 a year. (according to cnn) And they say at that price they could develope machinery to harvest the food and that would create high paying american jobs in manufacturing.
Green Cards aren't easy to come by, and many of the people who have them have spent up to 2 years here (illegally) trying to obtain them.
in my opinion they shouldn't have them then. If they broke the law to get them, they should be revoked. Theres plenty of people on the waiting list in mexico that are waiting in their own country for a green card. They deserve it more.

so we should make heros out of them? Should we just look the other way then? Does that make it ok to ignore our laws?
At least when they are Illegal, they spend the money they make here - in this country as they don't have the luxury of crossing back and going home for the off season.
Some of what they make they send out of the country. They cost us a lot more than they are spending here. What we pay to give them free medical when they need it and free education to their kids in our schools all comes out of our pockets not theirs. When colleges let them in at resident rates they are being subsidized by the state tax payers. They are ripping off the government because they make money under the table and dont pay taxes on it (work for cash). Now we are supposed to make them legal and let them draw social security when they are old? It's already going to be bankrupt for me even though I payed all my life. But they can just collect and not pay in?
I'll let you have the last say here. I don't want to get into a huge debate in this thread (or any where for that matter) so I won't respond any more. I think I've made my personal veiws known. I agree that it is a hot button issue and there are merits to both sides of the arguments.
I agree - it's a hot issue and it's not the place to debate it.
I see your points, and maybe it's cause I'm out here, and I live amongst many I have a much different view (Not that I'm walking in their shoes, but I certainly think I am more sympathetic to the cause.)
I will say in CA - Predominately the illegals are males, who don't have kids, they do send money home, - Resident Aliens (legal) are the ones taking advantage of the Medical and Education system. So that wouldnÂ’t change With this law
sign up for medicad. However Resident aliens that work - pay into it just like we do. Most of them (out here) have pretty darn good insurance which companies foot the bill for (as they do the citizens)
People always think that they are the majority that use those services. Not true (for out here at least) 70% of Californians live below the poverty level. Number speaking, I myself fall far below middle class.
Several times a month, I read childrens stories at one of the free health clinics for Children in my area. There are just as many white, black etc. children there as hispanic.
My family came over here as imigrants as well, and were given many opportunities to better themselves, and give their children and their decents a better life. Imagine what life would be like if the indians had kept us all out?
and now I will stop with the bleeding heart liberal...

I for one wouldn't be alive since I am part Cherokee Indian. Otherwise I would be hanging out in a pub, living in a village somewhere in Norway or Sweden...maybe even marry the Prince of Sweden
And they say at that price they could develop machinery to harvest the food and that would create high paying american jobs in manufacturing.
Is there a robot that cleans office buildings? I want 50 of them if there are.
Funny, but the most outspoken people for 1/2 of the new laws are legal immigrants. They had to do it the hard way and don't want the illegals getting by easy. The reason why most of the legals are protesting is to not make it harder than it was already.

That is very admirable of you to do that. You do have a good heart. I don't know if I ever said anything, but what you did over christmas with the snow was awsome!
You are correct CM. (about who is standing up re: the new laws) Don't get me wrong, I don't think that illegals should be given keys to the city or anything like that.
But living here, and working with sponsorships and visas to get my interns (south african / australian / french / Chilean) every year, and the amount of red tape and frustration with getting legal green cards etc. (I work with attorneys and it's STILL hard) I have great sympathy for those with less affluent resources.
as for machines to do the work of humans, there are grape harvesting machines (which alleviate about 6 pickers per machine) however the quality is a 2 on a scale from 1 to 10.
I'll look and see if I have a photo - the grapes come in looking like lumpy oatmeal rather than grapes.
It's stuff like that - that makes me scared to death to touch any of my tax deffered stuff.
Irritate - May 1st. Anyone who works with Mexicans will probably already know what I'm referring to.
I don't dislike Mexicans. I actually understand where they're coming from to a point.
Good luck having your building cleaned or dishes washed or food served or any other service where Mexican's are a crucial part of the industry.
and I'm guessing you don't have helicoptors over your house with spot lights - all the cars on your street with broken windows - ditto for all the businesses along the next street over where they celebrate - cruise up and down and shoot one another.
welcome to my hood.
Thanks

CM - I don't have problems with the battle of Puebla, but I know I won't see any of my vineyard crew on May 6th..
I also don't balance my checkbook, read my credit card statements or prolly 30 other things grown ups do on a regular basis.
I have a shoe box, and when I remember, I put receipts in it. Eventually I take it to my tax lady - dump it out on her desk, and away I go.
I have 3 friggin months left - wait your damn turn!!!
and not expected to dry out by Saturday.
and the winner is!!!
EVERYONE
mud is fun
thats just my thought, though...

I first read that as you find exercising irritating.
MORE RAIN!!!!
ugh.
Lots of mudslides and water. ugh.
It's supposed to be SPRING! I'm supposed to be wearing shorts.

Our medical is basically $333 a month ---
it doubled this year. $4000 over 12 months
