Surfboard? in MN? Isn't that like a farm in New York City?

Whats wrong with somebody in MN owning a surfboard?

I bought it back when we went to Florida in 95, because I wanted something from Ron Jon Surf Shop, other than a hat and a shirt (which I got anyways)....

have a cousin in Texas who knows how to ride waves pretty good, and had him teach me, when I've been down there on a couple of occasions...

Nothing. Calm down. It's just out of the ordinary for Minnesota. Personally I think it's inventive to get that as opposed to a T-shirt.

Thats kinda what I was using it for, for probably the past 6 months, was a coffee table.... I got tired of it just sitting in my closet....

was probably a bad choice because thats how it got broke.... somebody got stupid, when I was out of the room, and knocked an old heavy chair into it, putting a buncha cracks in it....

I've been telling people, when they come over and see it, that I use it at Phalen all the time... :goofy:

- reading that Parkway - the first elementary school I went to, from Kindergarten through the 2nd week of 4th grade, will be closing its doors after this school-year. :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

I may have to go and visit the place, and see if any of my old teachers are still there....

visiting my grandpa at the transitional "care" facility and having him put the call light on only to wait 35 minutes before anyone bothered to stop in. finding out the reason the floor was sticky was because his roomate spilled coke 4 days ago, and the floor hasn't been cleaned yet.

not good.

Damn man.... screw that....

thats why I hate most of those kind of places...

my grandma had to be in that one over off of Johnson Pkwy, close to mounds park, for a while, and the same kinda crap happened.... we still dont know what the hell they did with any of her belongings after she passed away, and this was back in 98-99...

I still wish I would have been old enough to have been taken seriously when I spoke my mind about that place, when she first ended up there

I swear the nursing home facilities in the metro area suck.... unless you wanna pay a small fortune.

You got to go to rural areas... my grandma was in the one in Amery Wi and she loved it there. They had all sorts of activities, great care and attention. Her last few years were happy ones because she didn't worry about anything.

When my grandma was in the nursing home, I didn't visit her as much. It was too hard for me. I was really close with my grandma. We thought she had alzheimers, but later it was realized she had a number of small strokes. It made her very forgetful, lethargic... she was nothing like her old self. I couldn't deal with seeing someone I loved so much and was so close to like that. It also hurt when she would ask to take her home.

when my gran got diagnosed with Alzeheimers (i was in h.s.) I started volunteering at the center that offered respite to family members who were their primary caregivers.

Then when I graduated h.s. I got a job in a nursing home - while I went to school as a social worker who tried to improve patient care. My gran became one of my patients, and her room was across the halll from my office. I could lean back in my chair and see her sleeping in bed. It was comforting to know I had so much of a hand in her day to day care.

Quality of care is actually a problem of under staffing etc. There are Obra Regs (fed) and State Regs they must follow, and many many of the regs are broken daily. Nursing homes are surveyed every year, by the state and if extremely poor, can also be looked at by the Feds.

There are hotlines you can call to report problems to, there are also people called Ombudsman who are advocates for the patients as well as something called Hicap (which deals more with insurance fraud) They hotlines allow you to report annonomously or you can leave your contact info if you want follow up of the resolution.

Having good facts like time/date info and specifics (employee names) are good things when calling, however they will often come out and investigate general complaints as well.

By being the eyes and ears - you are helping to improve patient life when visiting homes like that.

I guess its being closed down, due to declining enrollment...

I remember back when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade, I had a friend, who's mom tried to switch him to that school, because he had more friends that went there, and they turned them down, because the waiting list was too long....

Its weird how things like that, change over time....

I'd love to see a Kirby guy. I'd pull out my super industrial expensive vacuum and show him what a real vac can do with half of the attachment time. Don't get me wrong, Kirby is a great vac but nothing can beat a Windsor Versamatic in my game.

ungrateful coworkers.

So I spent another evening till 1am here thursday, installing a new phone system so we stop getting missed calls and oddly enough having customers that can't even reach us. I took time to setup everything nice and programmed all the little buttons so people could transfer to other people around here just by pressing a button. Tested all the phones to make sure they rang, etc.

All I'm hearing this morning is how bad the NEW phones are. Give me a break, no system is perfect, and their issues are from the fact they don't want to learn how to use the new phones. "How do I transfer a call? How do I put someone on hold? I can't dial out. How do I check my voicemail? Can we get the old phones back?"

Argh! Just take some time, use your brain and learn the new system....

you need to put together a faq list for them, kc:

"How do I transfer a call?

push the transfer button then dial who you're transfering to, just like before.

How do I put someone on hold?

push the hold button, just like before.

I can't dial out.

dial 9 first, just like before.

How do I check my voicemail?

push the voice mail button. just like before.

Can we get the old phones back?"

no.

then direct the whiners to the faq.

wow - catching up on posts! 121 in Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons alone!

I have a 1955 kirby that was my grandmothers. It works - however, I have hardwood floors and no no window coverings... so it doesn't get used much.

currant irritates: 6 trucks in one day - juggling rigs running around amidst our expansion construction & two of my bosses asking me for a report that takes 2-3 hours about 15 minutes before they needed it. I laughed at them and walked away.

a person who has to be in control at all times. They can't do what you ask unless it was their idea or you make it their idea, so then they will probably do it, but only after they want to do it.

can't they just say 'yeah, sure' once in a while. :frown: it takes alot for and from me to ask anything of anyone in the first place and thats probably what makes it suck more - If I ask something of anyone it's because it means alot to me otherwise I would do it myself in the first place or suffer without.

If you ask of them they have to give you a list of things they gotta do first and then if they don't forget than they will do it and then when they do it it's only for about 5 minutes because it's something they don't like to do and thats only if I ask again :frown:

... I don't wanna ask again :frown:
