Despite the heat, I had a GREAT time at Ribfest yesterday!!! Head East ROCKED (but there was hardly anyone there)!!!! Maybe 100-150 people near the stage area. "Moi" had to play groupie and get the 8 x 10 glossy autographed :sheepish: :pbpt:

Then I had to go to work for a while (missing Marsahll Tucker in the process), but Me2 and I caught 'bout a 1/2hr of Jimmie VanZandt and THEY really rocked, too!!! The keyboardist was crazy-superb!! Actually gave me goosebumps in the 100+ heat!!! Ted Nugent wasn't that impressive...kept talking about the Ribfest and ribs. He was OK, but after he did "Stranglehold", I was ready to go. Me2 was ready long before that, I think.

The afternoon shows were KICK-ASS!!!

Now THAT makes perfect sense. I never thought about that. He's Mr. Meat afterall. I wondered why he would play Ribfest. Now I know.

VZ & band were impressive-

Nugent was aweful cept for Stranglehold

The breeze with water mist was nice

it wasn't dreadfully hot unless you danced or watched someone else dance (ie: man wearing sandles with mismatched socks, monkey on his shorts and no shirt). :eyeroll:

the best part of the evening was quietly sitting pool side with drink in hand and good company - aaaaaahhhhhh god that felt nice -

I about fell asleep at Moose Country -

hey becks, we both have a couple of tickets left - we need to go back and catch Kansas

pfft. heat index... I got 21 cache finds this afternoon. Granted I didn't go on any extended hikes, I jumped from a nice air conditioned car out to the hot humid afternoon and back over and over. lol I'm still okay, I think.

Still, I enjoyed the icy cold A/C vs the sweltering heat.

So... tomorrow... I plan on getting an early start on drinking, because I really havent done much since the 4th... and even longer of a period, prior to that...

so I feel I deserve a little bit...

Its my intention, to stay as sloshed as possible, for most of the day/evening...

In both - celebration/pitty of the coming year, and taking pitty on the last...

Anyone who cares to join me at any point... at a bar, or house, or park, etc..wherever - let me know somehow, and I'd be more than happy to meet up...

If not, and i'm not around here before-hand - then happy August 1st to everyone.

Oh boy, where do I sign up? :eyeroll:

Depressed drunks are my favorites.

I do like the celebration part though.

the line starts where you are...

depression will be the least of things to be focused on...

this is mostly going to be to celebrate better things in life.... whatever those may be for whomever.

Thats also going to be the main focus for Nick-A-Palooza, at the end of the month....

August is going to be a month for celebrations, starting this year...

6:30 - It has occurred to me, that I have never started drinking this early in the morning. (X-Fest doesnt count)

I think i'm going to do a shot, or 2 an hour deal, until later on.... sometime....

I picked up the most lethal stuff the store had....

bar options for later on tonight - wild times, triple rock (its tuesday... that means two-fer-ones), The Rock (93X Rock Night), The Turf...

and any other one that has cheap stuff going on.... who knows

I dont care really... I just wanna drink, and hang out with people that give a s**t...

I want to rock!

anyhow, this should be fun

cheers.

happy August 1st. :frown:

August 1, 2006

A Festival Of Transition

Lughnasa And Lammas

To ancient peoples, the yearly harvest was a reflection of the human

cycle of birth and death. The reaping of food crops was associated with

the spiritual abundance that sustained the soul. Yet harvest times were

also a portent of autumn's chill and winter's harsh frosts. The Celtic

peoples of centuries past acknowledged the season's first harvest with

the festival of Lughnasa, the feast of the first fruits. Celebrated on

August 1, it marked the midpoint between Beltane in May and Samhain in

November, and symbolized a turning point in the lifecycle of Mother

Earth. It was both a joyous celebration of plenty and a solemn wake for

the decline of the potency of the sun god Lugh, from which the festival

takes its name.

What we know of Lughnasa, known also as Lammas, or the celebration of

loaves, has survived in the rituals that are still practiced to this

day. It is associated with grain, fruit, flowers, water, and soil, and

celebrated atop summits as well as in the depths of holy wells.

Traditionally, people assembled on hilltops to pick berries and engage

in mock battles-the profusion of the gathered fruits and the results of

the mock battles were believed to predict the outcome of the yearly

harvest. Many visited ancient wells whose healing abilities were thought

to be most potent on Lughnasa. Grand fairs and feasts were held, during

which a portion of the newly picked grains were baked into man-shaped

loaves commemorating the coming demise of Lugh. The descendants of those

who first celebrated the summer harvest keep the traditions of Lughnasa

alive in the fairs and sporting events that take place on August 1

throughout Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales.

Lughnasa is primarily a festival of transition and thus presents a

wonderful opportunity to consider how our lives have changed in the

recent past. If you choose to celebrate the harvest by baking bread,

adding ingredients you have reaped from your own garden will reinforce

your connection to the earth. Consume your bread with loved ones while

openly sharing stories of the new beginnings you are currently

celebrating and the endings you are mourning. As you honor the cyclical

nature of existence, reflect upon the fact that just as there is joy to

be found in the sowing and reaping, each of life's phases is worthy of

celebration too.

ah yes - Friday Night Video's on NBC was the answer to MTV in 1983 for people without cable.

I remember going to my gran and gramps cause they had cable when MTV came out nation wide in 1983 - and sitting on the floor infront of the TV for hours just in love with the whole music video thing.
