Newell, Phalen, Como, and Cherokee are the only parks I know of where you can see multiple shelters at once. And I'd eliminate Como and Cherokee just because it was at both of those parks within the last 3 years. Some say Battle Creek and Harriet Island have shelters as well, but even those just recently held the Medallion. Too recently in my opinion.
That's what I thought, but someone else tried to say they weren't. Right now I'd say it could only be at Phalen or Newell based on clue #4, and after clue #5, I have my doubts about Phalen.
I was looking in front of the Picnic Pavilion. From there, due north, there is a statue of the old ice palace with two towers, one taller than the other so you might see one, or you may see both.
no towers at phalen. the AM1500 tower on HWY.61 is not seen from phalen based on the fact that 61 rises as it goes to the north, and phalen is placed in a valley because that.
I heard the last time it was there they kept the gates open. My guess is that if you have hundreds of people in the park who have no interest in leaving when it gets dark, they're not going to expend the effort to kick them out.
I don't think anyone at Phalen knows that its there. Certainly they must be aware the hunt is going on, and if they see an inordinate amount of people show up there they may get the idea and change their policy, but until the crowds mass at the gate, there's no reason for them not to treat things "business as usual".
There are other ways to get into Phalen without going through the gates correct? The Ice Castle Statue is pretty good for fitting clue #3... if there is 2 towers on it, one higher than the other, and King Boreas' direction would obviously be the direction of the Palace Statue... and the astute jumble = statue in #2... as far as the rest of clue #2 fitting Phalen I dont know... (there is a bike trail that eventually can lead to Duluth... are there any Bike races along that trail???) I hope a future clue makes "Failin'" into "Phalen"...
Well, I guess its time for me to get my four hours of sleep. Hopefull this proved helpful to you. And when I was out at Newell today, there was hardly anyone there.
Well, the Spotters are oot and a'boot. That or, A) the guy's wife is very, very preggers and has a multitude o'cravings, or B) he's from Iowa and was lost. I saw him four times in 1.5 hours.
Ian, I really thought I'd see you tonite. Missed you.
Prolly bee bock in a bit. Gotta do some 'Net cruising for additional info.
Are we tinkin Phalen, or Newell or what? Dese clues seem harder than in years past but i dunno. I'm thinkin maybe ittiz in a box that a deck o' cards come in-the ace clue- but aside from dat iam baffled. See you all out there (somewhere)
Last night I was ready the Pioneer Press' article about the newspaper man who made up the legend of Boreas. I was trying to find out "King Boreas' direction" - it said something about Olympus. Does that word mean anything to you? I don't know that it said specifically that he was from there, but it sounded like it.
GOODMORNING THIS IS THE THINKERS ROOMMATW. NOW I AM REALLY STARTING TO THINK IT IS AT NEWALL BECAUSE OF THIS LAST CLUE. NEWALL IS OPPOSITE OF WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN THINKING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS ALSO THIS CLUES SAYS TO BE BASIC IN INTERPRETATION AND CLUE #4 SAYS READ THIS WELL. I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT IS JUST A THOUGHT. ARE THERE ANY CHICKEN PLACES OPPOSITE FROM ANY OF THESE PARKS?
Is it just me or are people being too 'obvious' in looking at 'shelters' as simply those found in a park. Going back to the downtown idea, why not 'some places' being a mall or bus stops???? Maybe I am reading too much into them....
I also don't think that the gain relief from the rain clue necissaraly means a shelter or pavillon. I think that it could just even mean a tree. This last clue really has me screwed up though. I just cannot figure out what the hell they are talking about. I really want to find the person that writes these clues and ask him what the hell he was thinking.
I was thinking that maybe some where there is a sign for a bathroom with a man and woman on it but that's not nessicaraly opposite. maybe it has something to do with black and white on something??
Also someone had mentioned earlier that usually if they don't mention a street or park by the 5th clue that it usually means that it's in a smaller park.
Ok the real thinkers back..............Newell(maybe)Cherokee(maybe) Rice(maybe) Phalen(Maybe) But I think that this clue has a real strong message...............back in the 70's the medallion was hid under a mailbox with a magnet downtown...........My gut feeling is RICE.....or mears possibly ...........I think that these clues are to vauge thus leaving me with a thought that a big park like como or phalen would have been identified by now. Any thoughts or reaction to this?
Is it just me or are people being too 'obvious' in looking at 'shelters' as simply those found in a park. Going back to the downtown idea, why not 'some places' being a mall or bus stops???? Maybe I am reading too much into them....
Thinker you are totally on the same path that I am I really have thought that it's in Rice. There are tons of things that I think really point at Rice. People have been kicked out of Phallen which really makes me think that they wouldn't go out of their way to kick you out if it is hidden there.
I was trying to think of maybe something that would make your mood cloudy and foul. Or maybe the opposite. I know that when they put a magnet on the medallion and hid it on the mail box that they got people in trouble because the mail carriers are suppose to inspect the mail boxes and obvousely they didn't.
Sorry. sent the same message twice. Yes, I'm stuck downtown, tho haven't been there yet. Town Square is considered an indoor park in st. paul. NOT one ever used to date. But I haven't been there to see if some of the other clues fit...seeing towers, etc. But, being downtown is close to Metro (university/ace connection from clue 2); towers from building at metro or the 'ace' on the bank. Can one see the bank red ONE from inside the town square? Clue 3: careful inspection/police or public health or housing inspector...all possibly downtown. clue 4: relief from rain... shopping inside! :) or rain from a fire hose/fire dept??? farfetched on that I know. "serve" in 4...ace/tennis connection or police/serve connection or serve/food in a restaurant/town square known for serving for receptions/etc. cooking:again food connection... or maybe the old fire pit in an outdoor park. I'm trying to think outside the box. Anyone else? Of course, mears could work too.....for some of the downtown links.
LL Thank You for the support............I drove around rice last nite.............I felt there was an increase in security out there............is that a sign? I dunno........I'm good go back there and look around no digging yet..........cloudy could be the gray cloudy color of libray and landmark center. What do ya think?

I have also been laughed at because I thought that it could be in Rice. Maybe it is magnatized to one of those stautes?? since someone came out with the astute being an anagram to statue. Also in Rice park there are 2 statues one of a guy and one of a lady. Maybe it's a shot in the dark.
Just curious, how did golf fit into linwood?
Hey, they actually haven't mentioned railroad tracks yet, but when I think about it, I can't think of any parks that aren't by tracks.
Well I am off to bed all, see ya tomorrow
it won't be at battle creek because all of the shelters and main things are in the Maplewood side.
I agree with allison, not at one within the last five years probably. When was the last time it was at Phalen, and Highland?
That's what I thought, but someone else tried to say they weren't. Right now I'd say it could only be at Phalen or Newell based on clue #4, and after clue #5, I have my doubts about Phalen.
Highland 6 years ago. Phalen, 1983, Newell 1984
Phalen and Battle Creek both are part in Maplewood and Part in St.Paul, they might not hide it in those parks based on that.
probably not highland then. It's gotta be Phalen or Newell. How could the towers fit into Phalen?
I was looking in front of the Picnic Pavilion. From there, due north, there is a statue of the old ice palace with two towers, one taller than the other so you might see one, or you may see both.

While I was there tonight (I suppose not a lot of people see it at night) I did also see what I presume to have been one of the Shoreview towers.
that is possible, but it had to have been to the NW, because shoreview is west of phalen
I bet if enough people started to go out to Phalen they would open the gates.
I heard the last time it was there they kept the gates open. My guess is that if you have hundreds of people in the park who have no interest in leaving when it gets dark, they're not going to expend the effort to kick them out.
It's seems to me that if they left the gates open this early, that would be a dead giveaway.
I don't think anyone at Phalen knows that its there. Certainly they must be aware the hunt is going on, and if they see an inordinate amount of people show up there they may get the idea and change their policy, but until the crowds mass at the gate, there's no reason for them not to treat things "business as usual".
yeah, probably only a few people know where it is.
There are other ways to get into Phalen without going through the gates correct? I have to go to bed now, I finally got my five week old to sleep. Good night untill she wakes me up at five.
There are other ways to get into Phalen. You need only walk past the gates. But still, I got the feeling I wasn't supposed to be there.
green, AIAB?
Well, the Spotters are oot and a'boot. That or, A) the guy's wife is very, very preggers and has a multitude o'cravings, or B) he's from Iowa and was lost. I saw him four times in 1.5 hours.

OOOOHHHHH!
Woke up and jotted down some thoughts that I was DREAMING about!!
SAW FRANKENSTEIN, he was running, we were chasing him!
We were chasing him first through PHALEN, then through NEWELL, back and forth, back and forth, then I closed my eyes and went back to sleep!!!
The bandit iz back!!

I don't get the even if your mood is cloudy and foul part for any park though.
I'm with Kisses and Thinker
I've been pondering the Rice Park thing since the beginning. I have been shot down quite a bit though - because of the ice sculpturing going on.

New Thought.........midway stdium...........looking north you see the spaceneedle at fair grounds............they FOUL poles there!
