To decipher the code pay attention to signs
Hacking the order to our deceptive lines

Now only a few years later it has a green hue
And when you are standing at the treasure's home
Even more prominent in the distant is another dome

Best opt for the side that's rather dark
To shed a little light on the hiding place

Clue #4

A directional dilemma with historic fame
A compass will confuse if traveling by land
Or head North by water to see it firsthand

We are starting anew, alack and alas,
Seek out the treasure surrounded by grass
Search the city built on seven hills
Combing the area should cause you no ills
To be first you must start with the last
Putting it all together could be a blast
To decipher the code pay attention to signs
Hacking the order to our deceptive lines
Explanation:
The word "anew" hints that it was a new park for a treasure hunt and "alas" was a hint to "Alice". "The city on seven hills" is "St. Paul" and the medallion was hidden in clay and grass. The second verse was referring to the first letter of the last line of each verse spelling out "CHEROKEES A JOKE"; the "deceptive lines".
Clue #2
It was bright and shiny when it was brand new
Now only a few years later it has a green hue
And when you are standing at the treasure's home
Even more prominent in the distant is another dome
Explanation:
The first two lines are referring to the Cathedral and the last two lines refer to the Capitol, which is visible from the treasure site.
Clue #3
If you're searching for a place to park
Best opt for the side that's rather dark
To shed a little light on the hiding place
Remember its vintage located on its base
Explanation:
Refers to the fact that there are "No Parking" signs on each of the park light poles around the perimeter of the park. Parking on the side of the street adjacent to the park is not allowed; therefore, you have to park on the "side that's rather dark".
Bank on the fact that it got a new name
A directional dilemma with historic fame
A compass will confuse if traveling by land
Or head North by water to see it firsthand
Explanation:
Refers to the "West Side" of St. Paul, which is really the southern section of the city. It was renamed "Riverview", but the name never stuck. The original "West Side" was named because traveling North on the river it was the West "bank".
Clue #5
Here is a tip, so don't blow your stack
Seeing its top will keep you on track
A landmark in the skyline will be erased
Known is the fact that it will be replaced
Explanation:
"Stack" refers to the smokestack at the High Bridge power plant. Only the "tip" is visible from the treasure site. The smokestack will also disappear in the next few years as the current coal plant is replaced with a natural gas power plant.
Clue #6
If you are searching for a big double you
Its metal members form one out of view
An elevated crest resides between it and thee
Eclipsing the river below by some degree
Explanation:
The steel beams of the "High Bridge" form a big "W" if viewed from up or down the river, but are not visible from the treasure site. The "elevated crest" is a ridge and "resides" was a hint that it was a residential building. The "River Ridge Condos" are located between Alice Park and the High Bridge.
Right hand green, left hand red, lead to our med
In our game, you win if green and you lose if red
Now quit pretending, it could take you until dawn
Especially if when you get back the city is gone
Explanation:
The "right hand, left hand" is a reference to the game twister. If you twist the "win if green and lose if red" you would get "Winifred", a street near the park. The last two verses hint at a song by the Pretenders called "My City was Gone" which talks about going back to "Ohio", another street near the park.
Clue #8
A pair of firsts win nothing but gold
Ponder a move that would really be bold
Causing no fear with this little twist
Suppose you find a floor that doesn't exist
Explanation:
A "pair of firsts" and "gold" refers to the house at 11 Alice Court and "the floor that doesn't exist" refers to 13 Alice Court. The treasure was hidden in a flowerbed in the park between these two addresses.
Clue #9
Maybe by now, you know it's all a numb3rs game
Mastering the letters bring forth a false name
Map Guy has not covered our most coveted ground
A number in thousands to the far East can be found
Explanation:
The 3 in the first line and each of the lines starting with an "M" was a hint at 3M. In roman numerals "M" equals 1000, which is reference to the 3M companies, which is visible from the park. The reference to Map Guy refers to the fact that Alice Park is not the "Treasure Hunter's Guide". It also states that if you had caught onto the "Cherokees a joke" part of the first clue, you are in the wrong place.
The honeymoon is over; it's a common phrase
Maybe you'll catch on, one of these days
Smack, it will hit you right in the mouth
Just go to a bus drivers wife in the south
Explanation:
Refers to the TV show "The Honeymooners" is which a common phrase was; "One of these days Alice! Pow, right in the kisser". The bus driver was Ralph Kramden whose wife's name was Alice.
Clue #11
Through the looking glass you should see
A garden of flowers that could be the key
Penned by changed names from the 63 hunt
Only character matters for our little stunt
Explanation:
"Through the looking glass" was a book by "Lewis Carroll" who also wrote "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". The main "character" in each book was "Alice". Louis and Carroll are street names from the 1963 treasure hunt. It also hints at the flowerbed in which the medallion was hidden.
Clue #12
High on the bluffs of St. Paul's West Side
In beautiful Alice Park you won't be denied
At the edge of a flowerbed you should be
Keep three paces southeast of a big tree
You will find it camouflaged on the ground
It's a half-inch thick and two inches around
You are sure to know when you have it in hand
Enjoy the moment, it's sure to be grand!
Explanation:
Pinpoints the location in the flowerbed in Alice Park and also describes the size of the medallion and the fact that it's camouflaged and on the ground.
