Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Clues:

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

I think we can live with that. I too like that it's just one design. Easier on the wallet, and no choice to make as to which one of four you'll use.

As a tax collector this year, I can't stress enough the importance of having more than one button! I have lost them whilst medallion hunting, you see. You might be just asking for trouble to only buy one. In addition, there's a free 1/2 gal of Schroeder milk, a free giant slow slide ride, and a free ice maze admission with each ticket! oh, AND you have more entries into the prize give-away packages. :ooh:   :ooh:   :ooh:

:frown: - I was headed to the unveiling in a few minutes! now I know the button :frown:

even though I'm not quite keen on the polar bear thing cause it reminds me of White Bear Lake, I've been seeing polar bears and penguin themed stuff everywhere this season and its growing on me-

reminder .... BUY a BUTTON from BECKS!!

It's because part of the button proceeds are going to help in funbding the new polar bear habitat at Cono...

They need a bigger place, for those two bears too.

2007 Treasure Hunt rules

Clues Begin Sunday, January 21, 2007

Find the medallion, bring in the clues and register a button – it’s worth more! If you don’t find the medallion, take your clues after the Hunt to any participating Twin Cities Cub Foods store for a chance to win a $500 or $300 Cub Foods Gift Certificate.

Contest Details and Rules:

Treasure Hunt clues will be published in the Pioneer Press beginning Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007.

A new clue will publish daily through Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, unless the medallion is found prior to that date. Read the daily clues to search for the Pioneer Press medallion hidden on public land in Ramsey County. The medallion will not be found on the State Capitol grounds, on a golf course, Como Zoo & Conservatory, Harriet Island or any construction site.

If you find the Pioneer Press medallion, immediately return it to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, to qualify for the $2,500 initial cash prize and $1,200 of groceries (one $100 Twin Cities Cub Gift Certificate per month for 12 months). Win an additional $2,500 for bringing in all of the published daily clues from the Pioneer Press and providing them along with the found medallion.

The Pioneer Press will also award an additional $5,000 to the finder if he/she is a registered 2007 Winter Carnival Button owner and has mailed an official entry form postmarked by Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, to the Winter Carnival office.

If the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion is not found by 11:59 pm Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, the Pioneer Press reserves the right to terminate the Hunt and donate the prize to a local charity.

The Pioneer Press reserves the right to discontinue the Hunt at any time if public property is destroyed.

General Conditions:

Contestants under the age of 18 must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian to participate in the Hunt.

The winner will be required to execute and return a Certificate of Eligibility and General Release form within 14 days of notification. If the winner is under the age of 18, the Certificate must be signed by his or her parent or legal guardian. Non-compliance may result in disqualification. Any income tax liability is the sole responsibility of the winner.

All contestants agree that Pioneer Press, TwinCities.com, Cub Foods, and their respective affiliate companies, parents, subsidiaries, advertising representatives and agents will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by contestants of any injuries, losses or damages of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of the prizes or participation in this contest.

Except where legally prohibited, by accepting prize, winner grants permission for Pioneer Press, its partners, and those acting under its authority to use his or her name, photograph, voice and/or likeness for advertising and/or publicity without compensation.

At the end of the 2007 Treasure Hunt, Treasure Hunters may take the published clues to any participating Twin Cities area Cub Foods store for a chance to win a $500 or a $300 Gift Certificate from Cub Foods. Clues and entry information must be dropped off at participating Cub Foods by Friday, Feb. 9, 2007. A random drawing will be held on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, and winners will be notified by phone.

No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies or online printouts from TwinCities.com of the published clues will be accepted. All contest rules and decisions are final. Employees and immediate family members of Pioneer Press, TwinCities.com, the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation and all contest partners are not eligible.

For a list of winners, write to: Pioneer Press Market Development, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, MN 55101.

Has been in the rules previously? Did they add it because the boys who found it last year were under 18?

Hasn't the medallion been found by teenagers a few times?

I like the new wording on locations the medallion won't be.

"The medallion will not be found on the State Capitol grounds, on a golf course, Como Zoo & Conservatory, Harriet Island or any construction site."

Are they planning something around an area under construction? Or were there complaints filed about hunters checking out those sorts of areas last year? Seems pointless to throw it in without one of those two things occuring.

tim_the_hunter

as far as I know previously they just said you had to be 18 to participate, but it was nudge nudge wink wink if you had a parent that could be listed as the winner. seems they just wanted to make it more official legally.

as for the certificate of eligibility/release that isn't new I don't think, I had to sign that for the wild hunt.

the income tax thing was always implied I think.

interesting noodle...

I'd say just based on observing how they run things at the PP and for the hunt that they are more reactionary than precautionary, so they probably recieved complaints/concerns last year most likely at Highland where there was that construction area.

I think I remember that part being in the rules before. Someone must still have one of the cards with the rules to check.

I'm not sure about other minors finding it before. Well, there's Donny of course. But didn't his dad actually claim the money?

I just remember some discussion at the Pioneer Press board about if minors were eligible.

Well here goes. Took half an hour to get this to work, but it's a google map of all the medallion locations (as referenced from the medallion coordinates project).

http://www.joelcd.net/docs/medhunts/wcmedmap.html

Lemme know what you think (I know the name fields need a little tweaking). It's fully scrollable and zoomable like a google map.

Depending on your internet connection, it might take a little time to load.

Nice map KC. Only one thing I hate about google maps is the names of the highways. Why do they list Interstate 94 as HWY 12? and Hwy 61 as 10? Goofs me up. Can't they just list it as theyr'e marked?

I know thats not your fault. Nice work on setting it up.

now I'm picturing Bob Dylan singing

Well Mack the Finger said to Louie the King

I got forty red white and blue shoe strings

And a thousand telephones that don't ring

Do you know where I can get rid of these things

And Louie the King said let me think for a minute son

And he said yes I think it can be easily done

Just take everything down to Highway 10

:eyeroll: :eyeroll:

good point and memory about all that Highland Park construction. BUT also recall the first year we were told it wasn't on the Capitol grounds BUT we could see the dome on the mural in Como. I bet they use something in a clue that make us think of construction.

Here's something fun I came up with working on my map.

Want to know where the medallion is? Every time you reload this page, it pops up in a different spot.

Yes, I don't have a life.

If there's interest, I'll load up a St. Paul Proper version.

hehe, yeah it could end up outside the border (I have it limited to a rectangle, the odd bits around the south will just have to be that way).

Heh, The middle of white bear lake. And the medallion's been a little naughty hiding over in maplewood a few times.
