Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Clues:

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

I was going to guess 100 to 120 come and go throughout the night. But, I suck at estimating people.

Does anyone want to wager a bet for what clue some idiot will try to dig up the state fair grounds? They didn't list it as being off limits, and although it's not public property.. people usually try.

(from the PP's rules page)

A new clue will publish daily through Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, unless the medallion is found prior to that date. Read the daily clues to search for the Pioneer Press medallion hidden on public land in Ramsey County. The medallion will not be found on the State Capitol grounds, on a golf course, Como Zoo & Conservatory, Harriet Island or any construction site.

I say it's ON one of the Indian Mounds. I'm planning on digging that place up tonight before anyone else thinks of it first. Maybe rent a jack-hammer too in case the ground is a bit frozen. :eyeroll:

I wonder if there's a statute in the city law books that says it's lawful for a common citizen to shoot an idiot looking for the med up on one of those mounds?

D'oh! Eh, I'll probably catch ya in line at the paper sometime.

I don't really care for crowds to be honest, that's the main reason I'm not planning to go.

The medallion is located in a very nice park. The easiest, well, the cheapest way to access it is to follow these directions. Once you get to the end of the dirt road you will see a set of railroad tracks leading off to the right. Follow those tracks for about 400 yards. The tracks will lead you over a trestle. Caution should be used here since there is a bend in the tracks and you canÂ’t see an on coming train. You need to follow these precautionary rules. If the tracks start humming or making a high-pitched sound, there is a train coming. You have about a minute to get down on the crossties and hang on! Keep your head and hands down at all times! Or you can jump into the water, but if you choose this option go feet first, itÂ’s only about 3 feet deep. There are some stumps in the water, so be careful where you jump!

Once across the trestle things will get easier. About 100 feet after you get off the trestle you will see a 6 ft privacy fence on your right. Halfway down this fence is an opening that leads to someoneÂ’s backyard. This person isnÂ’t home during the week until after 6pm, so I suggest you do your searching before then. When you go through the fence into the yard, watch out for the dog! He isnÂ’t really as mean as he looks, but bring along some snacks to distract him.

Once you are through the backyard you will come to a small patch of woods (IÂ’m not sure who owns it). Now that youÂ’ve made it through the woods you will come to another fence. This one you will have to climb since there are no openings. The owner is a really old lady so donÂ’t worry if she yells at you, she canÂ’t catch you. All she does is bangs her cane on the porch railing. After you get through that yard you will once again be in some woods. Be careful here because if you donÂ’t have a pass they will either arrest you for trespassing or kick you out. Watch out closely for Park Rangers. They usually wear an olive green colored uniform with a gun, so they are pretty easy to spot. If you see one, hide.

When you get to the medallion site you will need a small shovel, the type you use in the garden will do just fine. Use it to probe the ground (the coin is buried). If you dig up a lot of plants, please hide them carefully behind the trees so the Park Rangers donÂ’t get suspicious.

DonÂ’t bother bringing a metal detector (although it will help to find some of the many artifacts in the area) because the medallion is in a glass jar with a plastic top. If you find any artifacts, hide them carefully or the Rangers will take them away and give you a ticket. There are plenty to go around, so grab some, they sell great on E-Bay!!

The other alternative to get to this spot is to go to the entrance of the park and pay the Park Rangers $3.00 to get in, but I think the way described is the best. If you really want to go through the front entrance email me and IÂ’ll send the directions.

now, I thought it was hidden inside a glass jar that was tossed into the middle of Lake Como early in winter so it could freeze into the ice.
