Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Clues:

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

isn't hidden falls closed at 9 p.m.; that would not be where the Med would be hidden....

Three are other ways in, but aren't those gates closed too? Too many people hunt at night to be in a park that closes at 9.

All the parks close overnights. Makes no diffrence.

FWIW

The highest elevation within the City of St. Paul is 1,070 feet

above sea level at Hillcrest Golf Course. The lowest elevation is

approximately 687 feet above sea level in the Mississippi River floodplain.

JUDGE VAGUENESS =Judge Magney, a State park on the North Shore, and if you draw a line straight south, you end up in Marshfield Wisconsin....Marshfield = river flats...we're down where in the vagueness of where Crosby and Hidden falls meet, and with the gates closed, it'll be a long haul to get there...

I like it Posen.

The long haul really sticks out to me with that park.

I was at Hidden Falls South Last night. The sign says the park is open from Sunrise to 11 pm. And that is the portion that is currently gated. So, technically, it is open to use until 11 pm, even though it open only to pedestrian use.

As I've stated earlier, the gate at Hidden Falls North has been open. I haven't checked to see if they close it at 11.

my $0.02 on clue 3:

1) the clues don't tell us jack, until we know where we're heading; and we're too early in the clues to know precisely that.

2) be safe could well be a reference to similar features as como 03 and phalen 04's hiding places. another mosh pit anyone?? swede hollow would be a good place to have another dangerous hunt like that.

3) near land that is high says its in low land compared to the surroundings, and could well be a red herring to get people to highland.

4) vagueness rules. same old same old. clues are too vague until we get something tangible to work with.

We should get some street names in tonights clue.

It seems kind of vague where Lilydale separates from Harriet Island or where the St. Paul boundary is in Lilydale.

It's also vague where the line between Hidden Falls and Crosby is.

Boy, I really hate the idea of Lilydale, but it makes a lot of sense with Clue #2 that if you started at Harriet Island and walked into Lilydale, and you wanted to know how far to go, go no farther than good old St. Paul.

My take is that Highland refers to the neighborhood, not the Park.

I AGREE DAVE...
Tue, 01/23/2007 - 9:44 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I disagree. I think they used the words high and land purely as a decoy and not at all as a literal clue. I think they really are referring to bluffs or some such thing, and they used the words high land to fool people into going to Highland, or maybe even the whole neighborhood is a decoy. What if they're actually going back to Battle Creek again this year? There is a nature trail there with some bluffs and a stream running through it that leads all the way to the edge of St. Paul.

By the way, I should be at Matty B's tonight and I think I'll be able to be there for the rest of the hunt.

I'm looking forward to seeing the usual suspects in the next few clues, references to:

Playground equipment

Sledding Hills

Biking Trails

Golf Courses

Pools

These generic hints really do help rule out some parks, or at least areas of parks. Mostly, what I want to know, is this an unimproved park with minimal facitilies (like Crosby)--and thus the "nature" reference, or is it a developed park with nature areas, (like Mounds).

Mounds does have high and low, it does have natural areas (the lower part is restored prairie), etc. It also has a playground. That's one of the ways it isn't Crosby or Hidden Falls.

Not really anything anybody doesn't know or do--just looking forward to some way to eliminate a few areas. It's so much better than trying to include things!

I am thinking the fact that vagueness and rules being mentioned may have something to do with it.

THe rules on off limits have been to me vague to say the least. i.e. if youread it wrong you may assume all of highland is off limits etc. or all of como.

vague could have a 'hidden' meaning to it as well - i like all the construction ties with level etc. too

fun times - tonight should be a good one to elimiate parks as DD said

Saint paul parks said the gates at hidden will remain closed until spring, not very reassuring.

I was down at HF yesterday- the south gate is always closed in the winter- the cliff along side the road makes it too icy to maintain. The north gate is open all day- and when and if there's a bajillion people down there at night, they'll leave it open.

I didn't like being in the missing person's thread. Hmph.

In case you haven't heard from the king of the hunt frontier, Randy Rust. I am big ole' knocked up. Due March 2nd.

I wasn't even going to show my face, because I have MAJOR sour grapes, but even my hubby says I should come noodle.

He knows it's my thang.

So that is what I will do.

And maybe call in sick after clues 10 and 11.

On a lighter note.....

The goof in me wants to think there’s someone with the surname “Vagueness”. Peter Vagueness, CPA. He keeps a Burger King crown on his porch. I bet he lives near the Southwest corner of the park on one edge of a hill… and if you stand near his house you can eyeball the other side perfectly where a U-Haul location just opened up.
