Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Can't you see a tornado siren from McMurray field? I can't remember.

I totally agree!

The thought I had for the first two lines is that there are walking paths. That people go to the park (leaving their cell phones behind) to walk, get some exercise, get away from people calling on cell phones.
Fri, 01/26/2007 - 10:31 PM Permalink
kitty

Is there some sign (maybe at the conservatory) that says no cell phone use?
Fri, 01/26/2007 - 10:33 PM Permalink
Terry

That would be a logical place for one.

Maybe on a pole around the field somewhere. I'll have to go look for that in daylight.

Torture is right, Otis. I was set to go out if the clue had given us anything to go out for...but now I can stay home, get some shut-eye and have nightmares about larks and sirens.

I dunno... Im not going to Como without a vehicle, or some backup....

the last time I was there for a hunt...

I believe it was that Wild Flag hunt (before Mounds was discovered to be the park), some jacka** tried to run me down with his car.

siren

noun

1. a sea nymph (part woman and part bird) supposed to lure sailors to destruction on the rocks where the nymphs lived; "Odysseus ordered his crew to plug their ears so they would not hear the Siren's fatal song"

2. a woman who is considered to be dangerously seductive [syn: enchantress]

3. a warning signal that is a loud wailing sound

4. an acoustic device producing a loud often wailing sound as a signal or warning

5. eellike aquatic North American salamander with small forelimbs and no hind limbs; have permanent external gills

That's it! It's in the eel,

I actually work along Energy Park Drive and hear that civil defense siren from over in the direction of McMurray field, but have never paid attention to where it might be when I'm over there.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this clue is siren = women who sing you to death in the ocean in mythology...

Wolfpac,

I'm glad you see the humor! My friends thought they'd take advantage of the fact that I've been awake for over 36-hours and hadn't read any of the message boards today (They are not medallion hunters and poke fun at me every year. One year, though, I WILL prove them wrong!) They didn't realize I was going to post it, in an attempt to help other hunters. I'm sorry for the confusion. It was an honest mistake. PROMISE:) I guess it's par for the course today. I came home to find my car was the victim of a hit-and-run, over $1500 worth of damage!

I'm not sure if this will work, but this is that SharkAttack's excuse for posting the fake clue. Claims that some friends sent it to him and they aren't even hunters? Then what are they doing in here reading our posts?

Mucky's head hurts...this clue sucks...all i can come up with is this

"The term "siren song" refers to an appeal that is hard to resist but that, if heeded, will lead to a bad result."

so is Como so hard for us to resist...does it seem too easy....if we follow the"siren song" are we doomed to fail??

Good night all

Night Evildoer and Mucky.

Marley - The one walk in the park thing was someone with the last name of rose, right? It's the only possible help I'm seeing from here - being a flower with a thorn, smells sweet, etc.

There are no dead areas with cell phones any longer in the east metro, are there?

 He's the director of the city band and "a well know musician who has set up the Como Park concerts for 55 yrs"
Fri, 01/26/2007 - 11:19 PM Permalink

Okay...I will be digging up the frog pond.

The siren is a creature with a song. Ribbit, ribbit.

The frog pond is on the Max Metzger side of the park.

The conservatory and ball fields are in sight and it's known the golf course is yonder to that side.

And they put it where the sun don't shine!

LOL!!!!!!

That be him, Marley. He died within the past year or so.

He also was the substitute band teacher for my kids while they were in grade school and participated in one of his productions - The Music Man - at the Como Pavillion.

lol! edit:: not to him dieing, to where the sun don't shine

The street signs looked fairly new, they must have dedicated after he died. Wasn't much info on him.

Nothing in all of that seems helpful to this hunt - but then who knows. We all seem a bit noodled out. Maybe something will come to us in our dreams.

I think I'm going to head for the sheets too.

Just got back from mounds and como, both had a few people. There was a tower at mounds that looked like a siren, but it used to be used for guiding airplanes back in the day. I see there is a lot of talk about central park, DOes anyone have reasoning behind that. Im starting to feel like the clue writer is just toying with us and we wont know the park for sure for at least two or three more clues

Duh! It just hit me.

Heed the siren of your desirin'

And do not revolt against this poem

If Como is our siren song(posts 1271/1273), and we should not revolt against our siren song (poem) then it won't bring devastation it will bring sucess.

Follow your siren song!

and revolt could refer to the battles of midway or lexington...

No... sorry, that was a joke.. :frown:

I won't make these up anymore... That is why I usually had posted something like "hot off of the 2:04 press!" next to it so you know I was making it up...

Hope this didn't send someone the wrong way... It was meant to say that we weren't given any good solid clues to hunt, and that unless you saw the puck drop, you won't find it yet...

There is a nastier one on the unmoderated thread... hope that don't make it on here...
