NSP Snow Frolics Medallion Hunt
Clue # 1
It’s that time of year again and we missed you too!
The medallion hunt is back through and through.
As always, public land on Castles Site is where you need to stay
To get through the mountains of clues at bay.
Clue # 2
North or South is where we begin,
The direction we go is the direction it’s in.
The lake or downtown, we have recreation galore,
Castle had a 520 trade plan when he settled this town.
Clue #3
His children’s paths cross where you need to go.
They’ve left their mark here though they were gone long ago.
Not all of them were named, just a few to be sure,
But one of the four can take you by there.
CLUE #4
Bethel did it that’s for sure
On the heels of Yamagata’s door.
They must have heard of our music man
To take a stab at our enduring plan.
CLUE #5
The final day is here and it’s time for the last clue
This time of year, it’s Central Park for you.
But wait! What’s that? It’s over there to be true!
Nestled in the snow, just waiting for you.

Is this telling you to go to Southwood Park? Is that in N. St Paul?? (Google Map doesn't give me city boundaries... My other maps are freezing in my Jeep)
Population: 12,376
The City was founded in 1870 by Henry A. Castle. He began his community, which he called Castle Site, along the shores of beautiful Silver Lake, and to this day, Silver Lake has retained its beauty and its reputation as a focal point for community activity.
Stretching to the south and west of the lake, the City was envisioned by Castle as a community combining a busy commercial and industrial life with the peace and quiet of shaded, residential areas, providing a balanced atmosphere for work and play. Should Henry Castle return to his town today, he would find that this balanced atmosphere has been retained.
In 1887, the town was incorporated as a Village and renamed North St. Paul. Of the 221 voters on that day, all voted for incorporation. They evidently foresaw growth of their community—growth that has indeed come to pass. From a population of 621 in 1888, North St. Paul has grown to an estimated 11,929 in 2002.
A well-rounded, centrally located, and expanding business district makes a wide variety of services and commodities readily available. Included are supermarkets, newspaper, hardware store, drug store, bank, post office, medical center, furniture store, floral shop, library, restaurants, karate school, ceramics shop, antique shops, novelty shop, plus many professional and service facilities. North St. Paul has retained the small-town atmosphere with friendly personal service.
North St. PaulÂ’s municipal services are directed from a new complex on Maragret Street, which includes a Fire Station, Police Department and Administrative Offices.

Okay... So I kinda burned my good noodles last week...
Or... if you start from the North/South Parks... and the direction we go is North... I am thinking people go 'up north' to go to the lakes. Narrowing down the "The lake or downtown,"
Sorry, clue 2 jitters. :sheepish:
I was just gonna go out there
coffee in hand

its up on the website, now
so silver lake park, cannon park, hause park, and southwood park look like the possible sites
have a couple of interviews I need to get to...
since I have the use of a car today, i'll swing through NSP, and check some stuff out.
3rd St and charles ave 3 times= Hause.
castle=hause
go get it!
Oh sorry...wrong hunt.
I was out there for 3 1/2 hours - checked Haus first and came up empty handed. I saw a good dozen people searching the streets and parks.
That was my favorite park-
I checked in, 3 times, at the station to see if it had been turned in yet - no one has turned it in as of 3:10 today.
When it says His children---that doesn't necessarily mean Castle. Haus had a man listed on a plaque -some kind of officer or teacher? it said something about children.
South was the next best park -under the deck -but I didn't see it.
Silver Creek is always fun and I saw the most people here.
Another idea -same as last year- is that she may hide it NOT in a park. I searched corners of Helen, Charles, Henry and Margaret along 7th st. no luck
even checked the snowman and saw that the cannon was moved from Central/cannon park to the vfw/legion memorial park?
I also liked 520 being some code in 120
as well as the address 2520 7th St - checked there - no luck
520 added together is 7 = 7th St
This thing may be under the snow
Helen was the oldest
Harry and James both died young
Charles
Anne
His wife was named Margaret and a daughter by the same name
He had a brother named Chauncy (probably who Charles was named for)
Just a side note: Castle was at one time the editor and publisher and stock holder in the St. Paul Dispatch!
thanks - I was comptemplating driving back out there but I'm tired and much on the mind -
So 1 of the 4 would be Charles
another woman was there too
but we both came up empty handed
???? :frown:
and Tower and Central/Cannon
any ideas?
first thing that came to mind was they mistyped and it was supposed to be 120 or 420
the only thing I can find or think of is that Castle wanted St Paul to buy North St Paul. Nothing in trade though. He gave the parks willingly.
I can't find anything better at the moment.
Not another kids footbridge is it? There is one there. Kids would cross that path.
20 DAYS...........?

Guinness record set in Japan
February 16, 1999
Web posted at: 2:46 p.m. EST (1946 GMT)
BETHEL, Maine (CNN) -- The sign outside the construction site says it all: "Future Site, World's Largest Snowman."
If that doesn't convince you, maybe the hard hats and heavy equipment will. The people of Bethel, a town in southwestern Maine, are serious as they go about trying to set a new world's record.
Tons of snow, scooped up by a crane-hoisted bucket, are being piled higher and higher to build a snow creation dubbed "Angus, King of the Mountain." Volunteers with hand shovels are part of the town project, too.
At first, the weather wasn't cooperating.
"The whole month of December was warm, rainy and you couldn't make any snow," said project engineer Jim Sysko.
Angus the snowman in the making
Of course, the tall snowman needs some extra-large accessories. School children have made a giant quilt-like hat and huge carrot nose. A giant scarf is ready to be wrapped around the snowman's thick neck. And tires will be the buttons on the snowman's coat.
So far, Angus is about 80 feet tall, but the goal is to reach 110 feet by the weekend.
If successful, the residents of Bethel will surpass the current Guinness record of 96 feet, 7 inches held by the residents of Yamagata, Japan.
That snowman, presumably long gone now, was built over a period of 10 days and nights in March 1995.
