irritates: getting pulled out of my meeting (after I paid for dinner, and had eaten basically apples all damn day, cause I wanted tri tip, potatoes, and veggies) cause my dog has a hematoma on his ear the size of a softball from an ear infection he decided to scratch sometime today that festered.

  • sigh* so tomorrow morning - back to the vet for surgery we go.

    Surgery $400. Blood Panel $125

Knowing the second love of my life will make it through and be my faithful companion for more years to come... priceless.

but my mastercard is saying... ouch.

Heh, guess that means my roommate is going home.

Stupid drivers. In general. I actually can handle poor weather conditions just fine, allow for extra time, adjust my driving properly so I can still get from point a to point b safely.

The trouble is is that there are a ton of people out there that have no idea how to do that. Either they're in a large vehicle and think they can still do 80 down the freeway, or they only drive 5 miles an hour completely paranoid to drive at all.

Usually I get stuck behind the paranoid person, trying to make sure the maniacs whipping around me at 70mph don't clip my rear bumper.

Good ol Jay must be trying to gain some sort of respect from the employees since his announcement that made everyone paranoid a couple of weeks ago. He wouldn't even close the place during a bomb threat or 15" that fell the night before when I worked there.

    Driving did suck though.

Another reason why my kid isn't getting a license before she's 18. I feel that teenagers just don't understand the seriousness of the implications of driving. I know I didn't.

I learned the limits of what I could and couldn't do in the snow my first winter of driving. I took my old beater car and drove all over some deserted parking lots. Donuts, fish tails, you name it I tried it.

Actually it was good practice learning how to regain control over the car and what I can and can't do driving through snow.
    Thu, 03/01/2007 - 3:04 PM Permalink
    Clue Master

That's exactly what every snow state driver should do. I learned the same way.

Beats getting freaked out when your car starts slipping out of control.

Heh, like my grandmother one time in an old cadillac. She spun out thankfully on a deserted road. It was actually kinda cool, the car did a complete 360. At least nobody got hurt.

that's prolly my biggest fear with moving home is driving in the snow. Heck I freaked with that little dusting we got when I was there.

Sorry to Hear 3M. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and your friends family.
    Thu, 03/01/2007 - 4:10 PM Permalink
    Terry

Twice we've done a 360. Once on hiway 12 going through Delano when we hit some glare ice. That was many years ago. It was the only ice between the cities and Pennock.

The other time I was alone on a midday I-94. The pavement was mostly dry. Hit a glob of slush going around a curve that pulled and sent me into a 360. Ended up with a bump to a snowbank. No one hit me - I didn't hit anyone else - which was a miracle. I lost a hubcap in that incident.

The good thing is that we both learned to drive purposely creating those type of incidents so you learn how to deal with things when they happen.

That is what we used to do out here before we got all populated and stuff... Hit the gravel roads and screw around, helped out a lot when it snowed.
    Thu, 03/01/2007 - 4:23 PM Permalink
    ares

you can still do that, zeph. you just have to go farther to get to the gravel roads.

tc's decided that she's going to sit on our 16 year old like an egg tonight. it kinda hits close to home.

    Moronic customers.

I swear, I've sat here at work since.... 1pm, with nothing, NOTHING to do. So I've just been surfing the net, waiting for 5pm to come so I can get outta here, when two customers call, at around 4:50pm, wanting to place orders.

That's the kind of crap that convinces the boss we need to be open, even on a crappy weather day. Because "you never know when a customer is going to want to order product".

4 hours, nothing, last 10 minutes of the day and everyone decides that now they need stuff, it's insane...

Suicide seems so senseless. To think that anyone would feel so hopeless is difficult if not impossible to imagine.

I believe the depression that leads to suicide is part of a larger mental health problem that is untreated. Much like clogged arteries can lead to heart attacks or untreated cancer leads to death.

But it is one of the worst things for surviving family members to deal with because there aren't any clear cut answers.

Terry, I very much agree. The (funny? ironic?) thing is, she comes from a family who owns a medium sized winery. They are great (albeit really dysfunctional, as families with money can sometimes be)

She was smart, beautiful and had a lot of things going for her.

This guy - they were engaged (after only like a month of dating) and it's been like 4 or 5 months and he dumped her... well come to find out.. she's been married once or twice already (and she's like 24)

none the less - it's all still senseless.

That suxs Med Hunter- sorry you are sick!

New irritant: not going to the chinese new year parade tomorrow night cause my two friends who were going with me would rather go to a pleasure party. BUT it's prolly better, cause my kitty is soooooo sick, and I feel like I need to be with her. AND my dogs got his dork collar on & running into EVERYTHING.

I'll probably be sorry I asked, and I think I already know the answer, but what the heck is a pleasure party???

Don't ya hate it when people switch up plans on you just because something else came up?

Another question: what's the dork collar you refer to?

My oldest dog is getting pretty senile and blind, and she runs into walls on a regular basis.
    Fri, 03/02/2007 - 4:35 PM Permalink

I'm guessing an Elizabethan Collar, considering the other story about the dog scratching something causing a hefty vet bill.

sorry to hear your friends daughter felt that was her only way to relieve such a feeling :frown:
