The Tollerud's Korean baby monologue (the end) by Keillor:
Marilyn spotted the woman with their name on her the moment she came around the corner with the bundle in hand. And all of them rose two inches off the floor and levitated through the crowd as if the crowd was invisible, and stood at the end of the inclined runway. And as the woman marked 'Tollerud' came up the runway, she did not have to ask them if they were the family. She could see that they were. Daryl said to Marilyn, "You take her, I'm shaking."
Marilyn made herself stop shaking and took her, the little bundle, and pulled the blanket away from the baby's eyes. And there was a child---like no Tollerud ever seen. She looked like an angel from heaven, which, of course, she was.
The child will grow out of it in time.
But at that moment she was radiant with light. And that?s how all you kiddos arrived in the world, no matter how. You came down a chute, and people were standing on tiptoe waiting to see you because there was never anyone like you before, and there never will be again.
We were all waiting in a press room and knew who was bringing our baby off the plane. Lucky for us, the person who was bringing Brian off had grown to be a friend who knew his picture and what to look for. She found him among all the other babies arriving that day and was the first into the room - though my family was busy getting pictures along the way from the plane to the room. Once Judy came through the door, the rest of the hubbub in that room vanished and it was as if nothing else existed.
We had decided that Inks would get to be the first to hold him. The look on his face when he first held his son was priceless.
And Brian was an angel with his fingers in his mouth that grew into a huge smile when we pulled them out of his mouth.
We lived, at the time, in a big 3 story house with an enclosed front porch, over in what they called the Merriam Park area - though we didn't live near Merriam Park. We were in a flight path and many times during the day there would be planes going overhead.
In the spring, when he was just about a year old, he was acting fearful about the noise of those planes. We talked to him about how he hadn't been afraid when he came on the plane and we showed him the pictures of him smiling after he got off the plane.
All summer he watched and looked at those planes everytime they went overhead when we were outside playing. Who knew what was lurking in that brain of his?!?!
When he was 18 months old and had gathered more language, he came to tell us he figured out how he got home to us. (He was 4 1/2 months old when he arrived here.)
He said: I was on the plane from Korea and then the plane went over the house. Then I jumped out of the plane and onto the roof, Next I jumped off the roof onto the porch roof and jumped off the porch roof to the front steps and walked into meet my Mom and Dad. I smiled then.
We actually tape recorded his retelling of the coming home story a couple days later. His language was quite good for 18 months of age
We also took him out to the airport to show him how planes come and go and how people really get off the planes.
I'm watching it now. Thanks again for both The Riches and Joss Stone! I like both of them now. With very little tweaking, I can see The Riches going where The Sopranos is now - award winning. Which, incidentally, is probably one of the most anticipated TV series I've ever waited for. Especially because it's their last season. :frown:
I've always liked Eddie Izzard and am coming to like Minnie Driver more and more with each episode. The storyline is something they can string out for many episodes if it catches on. I'm just glad that I got to see it from the first episode.
Terry! That is such a heartwarming story. I love it. I love seeing people spread love for children. awww. He was brilliant at an early age your son!
enjoy:
Venti black iced starbucks coffee, and a 'naked nap' aka I signed up for tanning again for the summer... something fab about a little 15 min nap in warm 'sunshine' in the middle of the afternoon.
My (bigger) boss telling me as of today, that I report directly to her. (good thing)
and that I have an 8K a year educational allowance to further my education as far as work stuff goes..
(Plus I get paid to go to class if I can work it into my work day) so... I may try to go get either my paralegal or my chemistry degree finished.. as I only have 16 units of chem left.
enjoy: an idea coming to me in soccer for a play, and me executing it, and it working (although I do have a HUGE lump on my shin from stopping the ball.. right through my shin guards and all)
Not having to go anywhere tomorrow, but I get to work on some projects that I want to - around MY house.
Staying 'on points' the past two days for Weight Watchers AND exercising like a mad woman the past two days.
shooting only 5 over par on 9 holes of golf yesterday. First time out this season.

it made me think of this tune for the lyrics thread.
I was fitted for one and only used it for a week. I couldn't breathe and it would get filled with spit all the time. Mine was glow-in-the -dark too. :ooh: :eyeroll:
plus, I'm dorky enough as it is without adding to it
Mine glows in the dark. Mine covers only my top front four teeth - no problems with the drool or slobber thing, but mine is really really tight, and then some how I work it loose with my tongue during the night, and well,,, it ends up in the bed with me... which is a little freaky.
winning tickets to a show I was going to buy tickets to this weekend 93xrocks!!!!!!!!! got to love a home town band to!!!!!!!!! american head carge is the shiztiznat

I remind him that was some pretty interesting solving of something not understood for someone that age.
I smiled then <insert tear smiley here>

it made me think of this tune for the lyrics thread.
4. Grinder
[Halford/Tipton/Downing]
Never straight and narrow
I won't keep in time
Tend to burn the arrow
Out of the line
Been inclined to wander
Off the beaten track
That's where there's thunder
And the wind shouts back
Grinder
Looking for meat
Grinder
Wants you to eat
Got no use for routine
I shiver at the thought
Open skies are my scene
That's why I won't get caught
Refuse to bite the mantrap
Be led to set the snare
I love to have my sight
Capped everywhere
Grinder
Looking for meat
Grinder
Wants you to eat
[solo Glenn]
I've held my licence
It came with birth,
For self reliance on this earth
You take the bullet
On which my name
Was etched upon in your game
Day of independence
Stamped us like a brand
Round the necks of millions
To the land
As the mighty eagle
I need room to breathe
Witness from the treadmill
I take my leave
Grinder
Looking for meat
Grinder
Wants you to eat
Grinder
Looking for meat
Grinder
Wants you to eat
Grinder
plus, I'm dorky enough as it is without adding to it
must be me  - sorry :sheepish:

we used to kick it with Cam and Benji, way back in the day...
