Duff

I think the clue master knows both Newell and Battle Creek really well and uses them for the goose chase and then hits us with a smaller park

lets rule out parks and maybe by process of elimintion we'll get it.

Conway Como Mears Harriet Is

Why rule out Como? I don't think you can EVER actually rule out Como.

Logan

eliminate Palace and Mounds also

Duff, I kind'a wondered about that... Ivy... When I thought I figured out Clear Avenue, I thought of "profitable profession" - a non-Ivy league sport.

I think I was really reaching there.

I gotta get cleaned up and head out. I *think* I may be bock in Phalen! :>

Were there a lot of hunters at Phalen last night???

Hey, everybody toto here! Does anyone know who this years king boreas is and where he is from

Has anyone thought the "right track" could refer to Hawthorne or Arlington....(both horse race tracks) both of those streets run into Phalen in the st paul part of it

Wizard Land

By the way, it is not at any of the following parks, como, phalen, highland, mounds, swede hollow, but I do know where it is

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:07 AM Permalink
Clue Buster

Has anybody been out to Phalen yet????

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:09 AM Permalink
BeckyHomeEcky

Green.... Last night I was at Phalen and that Gates were closed. Would they put it a park that is closed at night?

Went out to Phalen yesterday night around 7PM just to get a general overview. There appeared to by a few people out there from my vantage point in the car.

Clue Buster

How about Mounds, anybody drive by and see if many hunters were there?

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:14 AM Permalink

This morning as the cloudy foul weather in my head cleared and became fair weather, the thought occurred to me that a well trained eye could be Hawk Eye...as in Pierce.

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:15 AM Permalink
BeckyHomeEcky

Clue Buster... yeah couple of people running around.

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:15 AM Permalink

Becky, why not? You can always walk in. Unlocked gates - status other than normal - would be a give away.

Too, there's an area o'the park that is not behind any gates; on the south west side. Plus, I think there's an area due south of the lake that has tennis courts...

Nice noodling, Behrens!

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:17 AM Permalink
Clue Buster

Sounds like most people at Newell so far..

PIE

THE ROCK SAYS

"LET PIE SPEAK"

I've narrowed it to 3 starting with first preference!

1. SWEDE HOLLOW (never been - newly remodeled)

2. BATTLE CREEK off 61 (never been in this portion of the park)

3. NEWELL (once or twice pretty small)

PHALEN is out! Bit the dust after clue six!

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:18 AM Permalink

Marning, Terry! WOW! That's pretty good about the Hawk Eye... Could that fit with foul??????

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:18 AM Permalink
Clue Buster

Where is Swede Hollow???

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:20 AM Permalink
green

There are four different tracks associated with Phalen: car, ski, horse racing, Soo Line.

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:20 AM Permalink
Terry

I figured the cloudy and foul refers to weather...the opposite being fair weather.

Pierce Butler runs along one side of Newell.

'mom'

Good Morning!!!

I don't feel any closer than I felt earlier this morning. But I do think we'll have to pack up the kids and go for a couple of sight seeing drives!

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:21 AM Permalink
BeckyHomeEcky

Green... I understand that you can walk around gates, however the major parking for Phalen is behind those locked gates. I think they would need that parking.

Wizard, I'm not sure who this year's King Boreas is, but I drive by Maple Hills Golf Course every day on Parkway Drive and there is a banner that says something like "The Royal Business of King Boreas. . ." That got me all pumped up about Phalen at first. But, I'm now thinking King Boreas' direction refers to North, as in look North for the towers or look in a Park located in the North side of St. Paul. . .

Has anyone considered that the Northwest part of the Fairgrounds near the U of M St. Paul campus is actually in St. Paul and not in Falcon Heights. The clue about cloudy and foul both refer to fair.

Green, where did the Soo Line Tracks run with respect to Phalen?

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:23 AM Permalink

Newell is on Pierce Bulter and Fairview The Saints Statium is not far off, a lot of foul balls

You've an xcellent point, Becky.

There's TONS o'street parking to the south, by Ivy/Frost, etc. Plus there's a huge plowed out parking space in the grass south o'the rec center/north o'the Phalen Shores apt. parking.

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:24 AM Permalink

Green, I was wondering about that huge plowed out area. That seemed real odd to me. . .

The BNSF railroad yard is across the street from Newell - that is "well-trained" and there are plenty of railroad "tracks". I'm liking Newell more and more.

As for the parking area I think its for the old gillete hosptial building.

There was only parking for like 20 cars *within* Conway last year. All the rest was on-street.

in support of newell... "astute". Stanford Newell founded the park. Stanford university. A leap, maybe.

Was there last night. Quite dug up. Parking shouldn't be a consideration.

Also, the MN Dept. of HEalth has an office on energy park drive (inspection). Also in a clue.

saints baseball. Also, midway was site for new pro-womens football games. Ok, maybe not an 'obsession'. Fetched link tho. Isn't any land around midway stadium public??? between it and the firefighting training tower?

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:37 AM Permalink
KB Rules

A park near the FAIRgrounds and railroad tracks is Langford. Might have to poke around there a little bit. Not sure if there are multiple shelters/relief from the rain ... towers are visible from there. It's on the North side of St. Paul (Boreas' direction maybe north)

What do some of the signs and billboards say around the entrance to SWEDE HOLLOW?

Does it say COOKING on the MMC sign on PAYNE?!!

Fri, 01/28/2000 - 9:38 AM Permalink

CP That area right around Midway is not in a park.

people have explored the ares CB. IF it's public, the 'park' could be 'ballpark'. I'm stuck with newell and battle creek, as much of this world seem to be. ANyone explored mears? I've thought a little about it.
