Kitch, Steph...thanks for stepping up to the plate...
I will help in any way I can, too.
I wish we could have something in Mounds, too...as I said before, I think it's a quieter site for reflection than Como...but Como has the zoo and conservatory which are very nice, too. In fact, I just saw Brad and Ali there a few weeks ago.
I also need to know to whom I should contribute some funds...
If I can help from out here let me know. I'd be happy to send $$ for flowers/memorial etc.
If you guys want to put together say a dine out fundraiser night where a portion of your dinner/drink tab goes to a fund for them, I can help arrange that with many of the major chain restaurants.
Or something else - I've got a ton of stuff that's tried and true and easy to put together.
I like the hunt idea. We could even hold an Amy Memorial Hunt every year. What I don't like is fixing it so CM finds the treasure this year. I don't think that's how he rolls. Just my two cents, for what its worth.
I'd already ordered a little something for a memorial before this discussion started, but have a few buck left that I'd like to donate for the stone.
I like the annual hunt thing, I'm trying to figure out an angle to bring in more money, and to draw people to it.
what if we got say a jewerly store or some other store to donate a large prize, and printed raffle tickets that were sold for $5 or $10 bucks each (depending on the prize value) and then hit the streets/family friends selling some tickets - to have the drawing after maybe Grand Old Days (good spot to get people to buy tix) or Taste of MN, or some other summer festival. with lots of people 3 or 4 peeps can sell 400 tickets in 2 hours easy.
(Most of those events would allow a booth for a fundraiser at no cost to the group raising the money, if you sweet talk them)
if we printed 500 tickets, at $5 it would net $2500 - in really no time, with minimal work.
Or work with a local restaurant to do a pasta feed after the hunt. They sell you all the pasta/salad/bread at cost (so usually about $5 per person) and then you charge everyone who comes $10 per person for dinner - you keep the difference.
Most places are happy to help like this.
Plus Chevy's fundraisers will give 25% of everyones tab on one night when you bring in a specific flyer to the group of your choice.
My hesitation with using a last name is that opens things up to people who aren't as nice as we are.
But if the rest of you are comfortable with that, it's fine with me. From what I remember reading about these bricks is that all letters are capitalized and that the inscription can be changed up to a date certain on the certificate given.
I will need a decision for what to put on the brick I would say by Sunday night. Then I can go to the office and get the certificate and such Monday morning.
Terry you are correct, I understand from the woman in the office that we can change it up to a certain date as well. When we put in the actual order we are given the date at that time.
I understand your concern, Terry. But I don't think there would be any more tomfoolery involved than from a headstone. Or from a name published in the paper.
Kitch said it to me the yesterday and I feel it should be repeated.... Hug those you care about more then once and make sure they know how much you care about them.
I talked to my fundraising jeweler friend. She has an offer for us. She has these beautiful guardian angel pins the sell for $25 a piece.
She will sell them to us for $7 plus shipping if we wanted to sell them as a memorial to Amy and a fundraiser for Brad and Ali.
Even with shipping we are making about $14 a pin. Plus people have a reminder of someone special who has passed.
Im sending this from my phone. But when Im back on a real computer I can up load a photo.
Also, Ive been searching for dine and donate places in the TC area. There are some really wonderful. zero planning opportunities to generate a ton of support.
My heart goes out to Brad and his family. I cannot begin to imagine the strength. He and his family will be in our prayers and thoughts these coming weeks especially.
Pay Me -- we are definitely in for part of the memorial, and I think the brick was an excellent idea! However, we too are away from home, and rather than deal with dial up, I will try and send something over via pay pal tomorrow when we get home.
I wish there were some profound words to take away the pain. Perhaps sometime just knowing there are others that care for you in your time of need is a comfort, though.
I dont know if this is a good spot to post this but I am spreding the word and I think it also blongs in here!! I know this was created for brad and his family but I think nick needs this to!!
I just got off the phone with Nick!!! it is a nother vary sad day his father passed away at 5:15 pm this afternoon nick sounds like he is takeing it about as good as he can!! I will keep you all updateed on any thing I hear he said he didnt know when he would be back online! so nick just rember we are all her for you!! and you are a good friend to have what ever I can do like I have alwaays said just call I am 7#s away for anyone any time!!! keep strong brother!! you to carrlyn!! your good for him keep strong to!!
I don't have much $$ but I can see what I can do, and I am leaving Monday for Camp Ripley for two weeks so I don't have much time... but if I can help out with anything now or later, let me know. Please.
In case you get access to this thread later, as I did to my secret thread, I am very sorry, and wish your family the best. :frown:
Its not selling something in that mannor. its buying something as a rememberance for the person who is no longer in you life and having a way to have a reminder of them with you. the fat that the angels turn a profit what helps the family turns into gravy.
as for tickets for a rafle or what ever. people tend to feel lucky n they will be extra generous when the cause is agreat one.
but that is what makes a dine and donate so wonderful. u set it up with a rest. then give ur family. friends. coworkers a reason to go to dinner etc. n the check comes back for a great cause. image the kick back had we had some sorta charity agreement with M atty Bs during WC
I'm a little new at the paypal thing - can you tell me how to do it?
I wonder if you could put something in the header of this page, too, as to what was decided on for the memorial and how to contribute? For anyone who hasn't been around for a few days, it would make it easier to see how they can contribute.
You have to go to http://www.paypal.com and register with them. You have to give them your bank acct info. Then all you need is a e-mail adress to send money to. They send the money to the other persons account electronically from your account to theirs. In this case you would send money to the e-mail adress On_the_search@comcast.net

Any left over cash that I end up with we can decide to either give in savings bond or what not.
But if the rest of you are comfortable with that, it's fine with me. From what I remember reading about these bricks is that all letters are capitalized and that the inscription can be changed up to a date certain on the certificate given.

I'm a giver vs. a worker...
I think I got bitter when I was in high school and realized how much I made for the school and just got pimped...

Stephanie, you should have my donation now. I also sent you an email.
PayPal confuses me. I'll try to find someone tomorrow to give my money to.
I believe the bricks thing said that all letters are capitalized.
From the previous discussions this is what I am puting on the brick....I just want to make sure this works for everyone...
