This is kinda a strange one:

Last night as I went through another box of my Grans stuff, I found all sorts of sympathy cards from the passing of her H2, and her brother.

In the cards, I found one from the highway patrol (he owned the service station they frequented) and 63 small flower cards (the ones that come on boquets) I can't imagine a funeral with 63 different batchs of flowers today (since most do memorials/hospice donations etc etc etc) It was impressive to see the support given to my gran.

I also have to laugh, his obit varied greatly from paper to paper - in the town he lived with my gran, it talked about his business, and his doings there, and her.

In the town he grew up in, it talked about his dad mostly, and his family being pioneers and settlers of the town.

In the town of my Gran's parents - it was about them, and how he was their son-in-law. (which I found really strange) I also found about 30 cards to my Grans parents wishing codolences on the loss of thier S-I-L.

I'm really missing the lost art of actual letter writing, and the thought that goes with sending things via real mail.

I went to a breakfast this morning put on by the org Called COTS (Commitee on the Shelterless) They were looking for more donors for their program.

What a great org. They help homeless families, get off the street, get employment, and get roofs over their heads, all the while helping the kids feel like they matter and are part of society. I spent nearly the entire breakfast crying cause the stories were so touching.

From which I guess a book is commissioned, about music, spirituality, and rock and roll are going to be derived.

Losing 3 pounds this week!

Also getting my body fat analysis done at the gym, and finding out that my arms and legs are in the Athletic percentile, and that my stomach area isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

They did try to sell me personal training time of 10 sessions for get this $619. I-dont-phucking-think-so. I laughed at her. Seriously laughed AT her. Then I asked her what she was going to show me that was any different than what I was already doing in the classes the gym offered for free.

She had nothing. It was kinda a fun win.

you should KC. It's really not that hard - especially if you pack your own lunch (that was a lot of it for me - eatting crap at work) I'm now officially down 20, and I have 20 more to go.

Also, getting out and moving more. I thought I was active before... heh. not even close!

KC0GRN

Yeah I started packing my own lunch.

Then my car got busted into for my lunchbag, lol!

Seriously though I have been doing that more, so it's a good start. Now I'm out at least walking more, or trying to, some days ya get so stinkin busy...

good for you. Did you know (depending on the amount of shopping you do) that you can increase your walking by a 1/2 mile or so a week, just by parking in the farthest spots out from stores when you shop?

I always laugh when I go to the gym, there are parking lot vulchers in the front lot, circling sometimes 2,3,4 times. I park in the back and walk to the front, and they are still circling.

I'm like "hello... you are going to the gym.. to do what?"
Fri, 05/18/2007 - 1:42 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

to look cool I guess...

I haven't quite gotten into a gym mentality. I'd prefer some good ol manual labor.

I work on the 6th floor, I've been trying to convince myself to take the stairs, but it stinks when you're dragging stuff with you.

so take a break twice a day (you know you need to get out of that desk and stretch anyways)

and run to the bottom, and then walk back up.

that's great exercise. and free.

KC - to be honest. I HATE HATE HATE the gym. in HS, I was THRILLED to find out I had a small tumor on my foot that I had to have removed, cause it took me out of gym class.

I don't like any part of this exercise thing, but I'm extremely competitive. (to a fault even) and when my friend bet me that i couldn't play soccer - I did it. The rest of this is just cause I needed to be in better shap to play. (I play her once every 8 weeks, and every time I'm getting closer to catching her out there)

You just need to find what works for you. Walking and doing manual labor is a great source of exercise so long as its constant.
Fri, 05/18/2007 - 2:04 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

Yeah. I've kinda needed some sort of competition to get me motivated too.

It sounds like that soccer thing worked out well for you, it forced you to get in shape.

Oh yeah, I think that's why I don't like the gym. It costs money for something I could do for free. Like take a walk or run up some stairs. Of course that only works if it's consistent. That's why I got a pedometer. Stupid thing is probably as inaccurate as all get out, but if I toss some numbers on a spreadsheet every day, I'll notice when I don't get enough walking in.

soccer has been the best thing to happen to me, in I don't know how long.

When I move there I'm gonna start an indoor womens team and a co-ed team. (hint hint if anyone wants to play - I'll need 16 peeps for each team)

I don't feel like I'm exercising when I play, I feel like I'm having fun. that is a huge part for me, I have to be entertained.

My next big step is - I'm going to figure a way to hook my small TV and DVD player up infront of my treadmill at home. I've never seen all the sex in the cities, so I'm going to Netflix them, and only be allowed to watch when exercising (so like one episode a day or so) That should motivate me to go for a while. When thats done I'll do entourage, or the 90210 series or something.

1) I scored my first soccer goal last night! I was sooo proud of myself, I almost wet my pants.

2) Found $230 in the bedding of my crib at my grans. There was something - like a voice talking to me telling me where I should look.

3) Found all the letters from my dad to my gran, when he was in europe in the army. way cool.

4) packed up some really interesting tea cups and saucers.

yeah, no kidding. I thought finding 10k under the carpet of her room was good... but there seems to be so much more (emotional treasures) that I'm finding too.

new enjoy- just played another game of soccer (no goal this time) but I attempted one, it bounced off the opponents face (ouch) and onto the leg of my teammate that bumped it over the head of the goalie, and into the goal.

playing with no subs, and not dying the entire game - although right now, I'm cleaning the house with an ankle brace on my rt ankle, and tucked in it, is an little freezee thing cause it hurts like hell.

Other enjoy: having the house to myself tonight still (my roomate is in LA on an motorcycle adventure) and I've got a bottle of wine chillin in the fridge (it's 90 here) and stuffed peppers in the fridge to go with it for dinner. yum yum yummy.

opening a deliciously expensive bottle of wine, for just myself tonight.

I was in my cellar the other day, and saw a bottle of 2002 Russian River Chardonnay (which by harvest would be considered past it's prime) and stuck it in the fridge.

When I was cleaning my fridge out, I saw it, and thought - you know .... I'm worth it.

It's fabulous, I'm on my first glass - I better go and finish paying my bills before I get into glass two...

Hey KC - I have a yummy summer coffee idea for you.

I've been making my pot-o-coffee in the morning, and then after I get my morning mug, I pour the rest into a big glass mason jar thingy - and take it with and shove in the fridge at work.

Then, in a couple hours, I have iced coffee - I grab a cup, some ice, and done.

plus I don't feel like I'm wasting all that extra coffee, cause I'm not smart enough to figure out how to downsize what I grind for a half a pot without making it taste funny.

Hmm.. I'll have to try it, but I'm not a big fan of cold coffee...

Now that one I can agree with you. Except not only american cheese, but any of the processed cheese garbage :lipsealed:

I'll never forget the time I went to a place my brother worked at. The owner came up and asked how our meal was, and I complained about the cheap processed "swiss" cheese and asked if they could switch to the real stuff. The guy's response, I kid you not, was "Meh, Cheese is Cheese". I've never eaten there since.
