I don't know why but I think everyone from here should head out to Newell tonite and splatter that park, if it isn't found tonite then we can all safely write that one off.
kid minneapolis I like hawkeye for hawkeye pierce and "serve" for butler to give you pierce butler...there's also the opposites clue, that led me to fair, and alas fairview, not to mention the fairgrounds and the space needle and water tower to the north. make sense or am I just stuck on Newell Park??
I do like the Fairview interpretation of yesterday's clue. But I think that the towers clue could be almost any park, and some of the other Newell connections seem like a stretch. I don't think it's at Newell, but mind you, I just don't like Newell in general (don't know why). And I have no good theories for the right park. Soo... I dunno.
this second line has me stumped. My gut is telling me there is something there but i dont see it. And whever said we should splatter newell tonight- last year that park was pretty "splattered" all the time, I didnt think there was a spot left untouched, but there again I was wrong. Anyone win a trip last night?
I feel like the "well-trained eye" bit should give it away; this is the one that we'll all look back on and exclaim, "Of course!! That makes perfect sense!! Why didn't I think of that??!" But well trained-->hawkeye-->hawkeye pierce--> pierce butler-->Newell Park seems like too many steps. I have to think it is simpler, perhaps "eagle" something. Or maybe it means that we should look closely at the clue. Come to think of it, that just might be it. I will ponder this further in class, which starts in 10 minutes, so I'd better go. adios.
people are saying clues are a stretch to newell. Seem more obvious than the other spots so far. MOM/PP has to write these for the folks who are new to the game too. Like me.
Clue #1: It's a St. Paul park and stay off golf courses.
Clue #2: Ace is a tennis term. (Tennis courts at Newell)
Clue #3: Towers to the north. (Space needle and the water tower at the State Fair grounds are visible looking north from Newell.)
Clue #4: Picnic shelters and grills (Newell has two picnic shelters, grills and a fire ring.)
Clue #5: Opposite of cloudy, foul weather is fair! (Fairgrounds can be seen from Newell and one of the bordering streets at Newell is Fairview)
Clue #6: The well-trained eye led me to Hawkeye - which led me to Hawkeye Pierce from M*A*S*H - which led me to Pierce Butler. (Pierce Butler also borders Newell)
Until something really sends me anywhere else, I think I'm sticking to it. I don't think I'm stretching anything here.
Some other thoughts...as we're keeping pace or racing or whatever some of that pertains to, there are car races at the fair on Labor Day each year. You can't see the track...but you can see the grandstand where the races are held...and you can hear the roar. Also...the railroad is across Pierce Butler from Newell and clearly visible.
Kid- I agree too many steps to get to Pierce Butler, but Newell is my favorite so far. I went last night and saw a lot that you could "make" fit. What about like a Dr. or something, they would have been well trained, an Eagle or a Hawk has that ability, not really trained.
Last night I decided to test a theory, so I anagramed Newell Park, and it spelled out the words: Your Worst Nightmare. No, really, I mean it. Actually the only thing that would lead me to believe it's in Newell at this point is: I'm almost positive that it's in a small park, and the way they keep throwing us off with the Newell clues in the last couple years makes one think that eventually it would have to be there again. But I don't think it is.
Last night was interesting night in the parks for me: It all started when some drunk A-hole and his 3 buddies started following my car in their car, then when I pulled over to see if they would pass, the drive got out, and did a poor job of impersonating a cop. Then when I took off, they followed me and rear-ended me. I jumped out of my car to go after them, but they took off. Hit and run. No damage, just alot of B.S. that my medallion numbed and severely sleep lacking mind did not need at that point. I filed a full report. SO, if you see a new model sport coupe 4 door red car full of guys sitting near a park, I would advise to avoid.
Clue Central is churning and burning right now, I've been flying some crazy ideas around in my ind, but not a lots coming out. I think the one clue we have solved that no one else has however is the proof it is not at Newell!
Thanks, Shoveler(about the 4 dirt bags).... Those "towers" could also refer to towers that are not big ie: two playgrounds I was at had "towers" on top of the slides, swings, etc. they are triangle shaped towers...any thoughts?
Im with you....well I gotta run back to my fun job here H...I will check with you later on. BTW. Place where red car is from is a car dealership which is right next to my other job. I have to go pick up paychecks from that job today, so I'm gonna stop in and say HI.
well, if yoou don't like well trained for hawkeye, how bout the fact that BNSF hub center is across the street from Newell? It is very "well trained". Don't we usually have all the streets bordering the park by now??? If I stick with Newell, I still need clues to point to hewitt and taylor...has anyone found any clues pointing in this direction yet??
Hey buster...I dont wanna give away all secrets here...LEt's just say it was a park that has been mentioned on here. ANd I immediately went downtown and gave full description. It's registered to a car dealership and there is an APB actually...because this guy is impersonating police.
I don't see last years clues pointing so clearly to newell. big sliding hill??? newell seems 'right'. the other 2 streets.. maybe some searching on the web for name connections with the clues.
cya terry...you seem to be my sole ali in this Newell park thing... I should go feed the little one and do some laundry myself. perhaps I will see ya at Newwll tonite...appears we will be the only ones there! shovel master...what parks ARE you leaning toward??just curious since I'm sold on Newell!
Terry, We all went for Newell at this point last year as well and nothing good came of it. A thought that I had as far as what it may be in is this: The first clue said start a new obsession, as in the perfume/cologne from Calvin Klein, I want to think it might be a box of that. I am not sold on Newell yet, it is still, too early!
Since most of you weren't here early this morning, I'll re-iterate my theory. The well-trained eye is your eye trained on a well of some sort. My 10 grand says when you find the medallion you're either looking at a well, or it lies on a line between the well and something like a tree. This is just the sort of wordgame that Mom plays. Anyone else see this?
cb, have you been out to Newell yet? Hubby there last night, no new revelations, but theorys all seem to fit other than no statue if we go with that anagram thing from astute. does anyone know the actual measure of a pace, or is that just an anagram for cape??? what do ya think sm??
The daily park report: Went to Newell over lunch. Didn't get out of my car, and there were maybe a dozen or so people there. With all the trees between P-B Route and the railroad tracks, I doubt much of anything can be seen to the north, save the fair Space Needle (at least not from my vantage point in the parking lot)
Denise, you won't be the only one there. My hubby was there is morning digging. We're pretty positive that it's there and it'll be a little difficult to convince us differently. There were about 6 or so people digging there besides my husband. They were pretty sure it's there as well.
I've been on line looking at the posts, but just haven't had to to put my two cents worth in. Between typing my husband's reports and kids' homework, I've only had time to catch up on reading your ideas. Had a wonderful time a few days ago laughing at Allison Wonderland (urinal - Shakspeare)
Anyway here are my thoughs for Newell: well-trained: train station; Pierce "Hawkeye"; Butler - serves; cloudy - Fair(view); foul - penguin at a house by Newell (this may be a stretch); there's a school - magnet, baseball-tennis courts - "ace"; towers/Boreas - north toward State "Fair"grounds, etc.
A step made in walking; a stride. A unit of length equal to 30 inches (0.76 meter). The distance spanned by a step or stride, especially: The modern version of the Roman pace, measuring five English feet. Also called geometric pace. Thirty inches at quick marching time or 36 at double time. Five Roman feet or 58.1 English inches, measured from the point at which the heel of one foot is raised to the point at which it is set down again after an intervening step by the other foot.
I don't know why but I think everyone from here should head out to Newell tonite and splatter that park, if it isn't found tonite then we can all safely write that one off.
6100 JOE
It's been taped to a Flag Pole as well

I was kinda stuck on newell too, looked around a bit last night and now not so sure

Dad's dad...I *know* you're lurking here. The cat's outta the bag. Wanna come over & watch some kids?

My take on the clues for what it's worth:
Clue #1: It's a St. Paul park and stay off golf courses.
Clue #2: Ace is a tennis term. (Tennis courts at Newell)
Clue #3: Towers to the north. (Space needle and the water tower at the State Fair grounds are visible looking north from Newell.)

I don't think it's too many steps to get to Newell. We had to go through the same process last year for Conway....
Kid- I agree too many steps to get to Pierce Butler, but Newell is my favorite so far. I went last night and saw a lot that you could "make" fit. What about like a Dr. or something, they would have been well trained, an Eagle or a Hawk has that ability, not really trained.

I was at Newell last night and I'll be there again tonight. DIG ON
Well, I'm gonna put together some lunch type stuff for the urchins, and hopefully get some stuff done. Want to be *ready* to go out tonight!
Newell, nah!
Last night was interesting night in the parks for me: It all started when some drunk A-hole and his 3 buddies started following my car in their car, then when I pulled over to see if they would pass, the drive got out, and did a poor job of impersonating a cop. I am certain that it is not Newell!
Hey H...how's it going @ Clue Central?

No word from the coppers yet... I decided Im gonna do a little Magnum PI'ing of my own though. It cant hurt.
Last year all the clues pointed to newell as well. I swear it ain't there but I invite everyone to blow their brains out looking there!
SM What park was that by?? You should have reported that car to the cops....
Hey buster...I dont wanna give away all secrets here...LEt's just say it was a park that has been mentioned on here. ANd I immediately went downtown and gave full description. It's registered to a car dealership and there is an APB actually...because this guy is impersonating police.
OK, its time to anagram this "Magnum PI" hey that comes out "a mung imp" anyone got any wild theorys on that, lol!
A tailor (taylor) has a well-trained eye.
Gonnna go get this putter room clean and some laundry done so I have something clean to wear for digging later.
BBIAW
That sucks about your car thing shovelmaster. What is up with the dumb f's?
I don't see last years clues pointing so clearly to newell. big sliding hill??? newell seems 'right'. the other 2 streets.. maybe some searching on the web for name connections with the clues.
not to mention a needle, the tool of a tailor, has an eye. I guess everyone should run off to Newell!
hahaha
hewitt...jennifer love connection? :) taylor...james...anything jumping out?
Last year I was sold on the fact that the clues were pointing towards Hewitt, as in PP Film reviewer Chris Hewitt.
cya terry...you seem to be my sole ali in this Newell park thing... I should go feed the little one and do some laundry myself. perhaps I will see ya at Newwll tonite...appears we will be the only ones there! shovel master...what parks ARE you leaning toward??just curious since I'm sold on Newell!
DG I'm with ya on Newell
I'm stuck on Newell as well. I'm so sure it's there somewhere, it's too obvious! We're all missing something!
does anyone think the "right track" could refer to Arlington or Hawthorne both horse race tracks and both streets that run into phalen?
Terry, We all went for Newell at this point last year as well and nothing good came of it. Is there an old style, hand operated pump , well at Newell park?
I was at Newell last night, about 35 hunters diggin away..

I didn't see any type of well or pump at Newell
