Santa Dave Memories

Submitted by ares on

I thought it would be nice to have a spot for us to share our memories of Dave, just like we did with Kirk, and we can get them passed along to his family.

I can sure relate to that.

I still can't hear a phone ring when I'm sleeping without my heart going into pounding and racing mode.

Lots of other cues get my adrenaline running, too.

I know its a drag for some people around me to deal with, but that's how my life is now.

Its a form of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and there is help for it, but it doesn't always go completely away.

my heart going into pounding and racing mode.

Mine is still racing from those posts. Even though it sounds not as bad as I thought.

Yeah...the last time I got one of *those* phone calls it was Jake. I couldn't figure out why Jake was calling me with an emergency.

My Mom has life line and I hadn't heard that Jake had gone to work for them.

thank you for the coke all over my keyboard.

My phone rings constantly - so that doesn't get me. However when the caller id says private - i figure it's my mom, and I have no reason to want to actually talk to her.

jake called me at 2:03 am, after I knew he was going out to a bar, so I didn't answer the first 3 times.

Diggin' Daughter and I had really hoped to go to the memorial service for Santa Dave - but unfortunalty we head out of town Friday morning for our annual Memorial weekend trip to the lake for our fix of the great outdoors. Walleyes, northern lights, eagles, sunfish and crappies. (Heaven on earth)

Know that our hearts and prayers will be with you and Santa Daves family. Drive safe.

Well gosh. Sure glad I spent time doing that today...

What I was trying not to spoil the suprise, but since Tim doesn't want to pray anymore, is this: I spoke to several people at Ma Press today, and I *think* that I've gotten the Press to donate the medallion to the Cooler Crew for the purpose of having it buried with Santa Dave, so that Dave can always have the treasure with him that he always searched for.

Basically the press wants to make sure that the family's okay with it (they are, I called his sister in Utah) and that we can guarantee that it's buried with him and we don't keep it (the Funeral director that I spoke to said that they'd be willing to attest in writing that the medallion and dave are together) and that they'd have to turn it over to legit people (The lady that I talked to knows me2 through work and she seemed cool with giving it to Jana to give to the funeral guy)

I'm still waiting for the final OK. I'm not sure if they were bluffing when they told me that they'd do it (they did say they'd do it, I'm not sure if I called their bluff by meeting their demands) OR...If they're trying to figure out a way to do a story on it.

Either way, that's what I was asking for good luck and crossed fingers for. Since they probably need a new medallion anyway because of all the pictures of it, I figured it would a nice way for us all to remember Santa Dave - as the keeper of the Medallion - and the way I figure it, with all of the lives that guy touched, I think he deserves to go out a winner.

That's sweet Bear. I like it.

Suppose it would be truth for any of us to say in future years.. I know where it's buried and you really don't want to dig there.

Well, they haven't said officially yes, yet, and I don't know if they will...but they said they'd do it as long as I met all of their conditions, and I did, so...Maybe we can all call them if they say no.

FYI - There is a 33 mile difference driving through Mankato vs. Albert Lea. Driving time is the same. That's 66 miles worth of gas by going to and from through Mankato.

For clarity kind sir....

Which way is less miles?

If you could speak with someone from Dave's family, perhaps they know what happened to his car?

If not, I suppose either Majors or the police must have arranged for it to be removed.

State Fair Bench:

Contact name is Jim Hamilton with the State Fair Foundation. I have his number too (we bought a bench last year on behalf of the Ramsey County Fair for a board member that had passed).

Benches need to be ordered by July 1 to be placed at this year's fair.

Thanks Kat. Not sure we can get the fundage by this July - I still have to talk to Scott after the funeral to set a date for this shin-dig. Going to need a little more than a week or two to put the whole thing together.

I mean - I'm good... but I'm not THAT good.

We may have to get the SF bench for next year.
