I thought it would be nice to have a spot for us to share our memories of Dave, just like we did with Kirk, and we can get them passed along to his family.
As some of you know, Dave Young passed a few weeks ago. What some of you comics that have seen Dave perform or sneak into shows ,is that he has been apart of the comedy community since Day One at Mickey Finns.
On Tuesday June 19th at 7:30 Pm , the Market BBQ in Minneapolis will be setting aside a special room for comics and local friends of Dave Young to get together and chat about the "Hitman of Comedy".
If you have any photos, stories or video of Dave, PLease bring them along.
This is nothing formal, No speeches, etc. Just comics and friends remembering a great guy.
So come tip a few beers or chew on some rib bones for Dave Young.
Please forward this to as many comics and friends that you think may want to be there.
I just ate at the Market BBQ yesterday for my first time. Cool place. Great atmosphere. Not sure if I remember how to get there tho since my boss drove all over the place. Perfect setting for Dave.
Any news on the benefit concert? Or do they plan on talking about it at that time?
I got the same e-mail and wondered about the dates too- need to look at a calendar I guess to see what next Tuesday falls on. I don't even know how I got the e-mail - it was sent by betterhomes? yahoo?
We spent a good part of the day running around with our daughter while she gathered stuff for a co-ed baby shower/grad party she is helping host tomorrow.
While running around town between stops, we talked some about Santa Dave, his funeral and memories.
She thought it so awesome that he got the medallon and when I told her he was buried with his Santa jacket, her comment was this...
That's awesome! I love hearing that kind of stuff that perfectly sums up a feeling in only a few choice words. There have been quite a few in here lately.
I'm glad she's here too, Clue Master. We talk to her often, and she emails us once in awhile, but it is awesome to have her here in person. She has a way of lighting up a room, and it's NEVER quiet with her around.
I'll be exhausted from all the light and noise by the time she goes.
thats IT I HAVE A GOOD REASON to call in sick tomorrow !!!! lol I am going to call in and go!!!! if I can swing IT!!! have to pay bills first before I can take to many days off!!!!!!!!!!
Received an email from Margie today. She is planning on attending the "party" tomorrow evening and hopes to see folks there. Sounds like another cousin may come and her brother as well.
oooh good. I'm going a little early so I don't worry about traffic and find a place to park. I don't know where I'm going. I'm dying for some bbq'd anything right now!!!!
And I have emailed Margie. In her email yesterday, she said her Dad wasn't doing too well. I suspect that something was going on there that prevented her from attending this evening's event as she planned on.
personally, it is hard to explain to most people and hard for most people to really understand when I tell them WHY I was there last night. How do I say this... I think anyone I've told (that isn't CoolerCrew) would say "WHY or HOW could you just show up at a restaurant or a bar and talk to people you don't know like that" ... EVERONE has good in them and rarely do I meet someone that I just don't need to run into again ... but if someone meant something to someone I knew/know and they liked them than the least I can do is give their friend(s) a chance at being my friend too. I guarentee there was at least one person last night that I could live with out ever seeing again... however, in the midst of them Ive found a couple new people that I enjoyed the time together and hope to see again. I'm learning in my "old age" that just touching the life of someone, OR having MY life touched, with laughter and warmth, even if just for one chance meeting means something. It was wonderful to hang out with people being themselves and comedians being themselves, a reminder that we are all just human...and boy were some of us our selves last night. no one was out of character except me, but thats a whole nother story. and by the way....no, my toe is not broken but major OUWIE!!!! :frown: and needles and sewing do go hand in hand! HA! :sheepish: and setting off fireworks in the bbq parkinglot at midnight sounding like a bomb blew up was scarey, but good guys. yikes.
thanks for the company last night everyone who made it. I was pleasantly suprised to see all of you.Dave gave us a strange way of meeting some cool people. He is an angel in disguise, just like in those pictures of him that were there last night. I couldn't believe how white and clear and angelique he was in them...and those beautiful blue eyes.
Sorry you found someone you wouldn't necessarily care to meet again, me2. Luckily, we enjoyed everyone we spoke with - and that Dennis that came in a bit later was a hoot and a half!
I am now even more looking forward to the fund raiser for the park bench(es). There is some wonderful talent among those comic friends of DDY's.
oooh yeah, Dennis was funny- we hung out in the parkinglot for a bit afterwards and the humour came naturally - he reminds me of a slash between my dad and Paul Rodriguez- probably why I took an extra liking to him
I wasn't sure how to go about going to the club -was hoping they had a website about it somewhere - they did say they would let Jake up on stage  :lipsealed: :goofy:
I can not express how SICK to my tummy I am right now and how I just want last month back!
:frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:
I just took a class on the new defibelators that are kept in our building. I kept thinking 'if only the restaurant had one!' IF ONLY!!! MY GOD!!!! :frown: :frown: :frown:
I want that moment back to give him another chance!
I know most places will think they cost too much to have on hand. I'm actually thinking on how I can come up with the $$ to have one in my truck. I'm sooooo sad and upset and angry about this right now!!! :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:
the other guy that was sitting next to Green all night, was Duane...
Dennis and Duane are funny as hell, together.... they were telling Carolyn and me about how they just rocked some show a couple of days ago, and it had been one of the best either of them had done in a while...
Well..... right now i am at a computer checking email here at the Methodist Hosp. here in Rochester.... dad is getting another blood transfusion.... he is holding his own and so far we will see what turns out...my brother just flew in on tuesday afternoon too at 4:30. well we thought perhaps we would make it but it just got to be to long and we thought that we better not push it and then drive from rochester to the cities.. and then back again..... well i wanted to come and was close to still coming at 8pm but i thought i better stick with mom and my brother.....
I know that last night was probably a great time  and I want to hear all that I missed!!
I will keep you posted on whats new with dad and all.. but take care up there and tell everyone hello... maybe when the cooler crew gets together for a bite to eat i could buzz up there... but anyways.... have fun!!

He never needed the Santa suit.

Thank you to all who could make it...and for those with us in spirit too.
Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
