I don't want to forget this so I'm posting it in my thread too
rolling down the windows on a sunny foggy day, with my hair flying all over the place, listening to Bitter Sweet Surrender as I drive Cherokee Park - looking over downtown ~the Cathedral looked MASSIVE ... as if it had been lassoed and brought closer (like in Its A Wonderful Life- "What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You...you want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey! That's a pretty good idea! I'll give you the moon, Mary.)
A little light looks through, her bedroom window.
She dances and I dream, she's not so far as she seems,
then the guys showed up and I had to do all that last minute stuff: pull old carpet from one room and move furniture outside (hoping for no rain) then pull those staples from the floor and 409 the walls and baseboards....
uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh I hear the shower calling me and a wonderful lunch in the park in my future
unfortunately its about 5 years too late :frown: and I'm not talking about the shower  :frown:
I will have a poker/wine/beer night after Aug 1st. I know that once this is in that the house will calm down some and I'll actually begin to feel a little more like my old self --- which my sister misses so it can't be all that bad
I can't believe you just happen to come across her - I really like her ... ty for showing me - I slowed down enough and to really listen....now I do think I understand better today. :frown:
Im gonna try to keep somewhat of a blog here of having Sarah, our 15 yr old from France visit...
its more for me than anything but feel free to enjoy the ride with me. and yes, my 15 yr old has the same name
we picked Sarah up from the University of Minnesota. Tall girl!! very grown-up. Her dad is retired and used to own a clothing shop and her mom teaches French in FRANCE! haha nice. We talked about where she has already been over the last three days. Today she visited Harriet Island with her group - now that just funny to be so close to us. She wants to live like an American girl for the next 2 weeks. She was hungry so we took her to Boca Chica and got a bunch of different mexican items for her to try. (I can't go there without a margarita gold) ... Now we're home and the girls just showed her around. We got Whitneys room all ready with extra sheets and 3 drawers for clothes so she can stay in her room. She speaks very good English. Im hoping to learn something in french
I currently work with a Hmong woman who was a refuge in France. One of the Hmong AmeriCorps woman I used to work with also had refuge status in France. It is/was fun to hear the French-Hmong accent.
well in my case...we arn't sending my Sarah to France anytime soon...but techniqually she is a foreign exchange student. It was really easy to do too. A man visited Sarahs French class at Central High School. Sarah came home and asked what we thought of it. Both Mark and I actually agreed that it would be interesting and a life experience. So we filled out a form she brought home where we wrote down things we like to do and that we wanted a girl about 13-15. The guy contacted us and we went to a 2 hr meeting with other parents doing the same thing. The next thing we know July 12th is here and we go pick her up! so far I would do this again. Whitney has been the most excited- Its like having a rock star in the house!
Turns out I didn't quite understand her and she visited Lake Harriet yesterday NOT Harriet Island   whoops.
She brought us wrapped presents FROM FRANCE too! how nice. I didn't see what she gave the girls yet but she gave Mark a French cookbook and she gave me a book on her city of Lyon. HOW COOL! perfect! and then I received a bag of goodies with 4 different mini bottles of perfumes from France and a cosmetic assortment of sample skin care products.
We told her last night that our house is her house and that any meals we eat out together that we will pay for. (they bring $ for food) ... save it for SHOPPING!!!! she likes our clothes here. She says T-shirts in France go to here (points above her belly button). She really likes American Eagle & Hollister.
The american exchange rate is 1 Euro = 1.3333 American Dollar - so everything she buys here will feel like its on sale by 33%? is that right?
Girls are sleeping right now. We may take her down by the Mississippi this afternoon for a bit. She is amazed by the tall buildings - if I took her to my work its not really that high but we will probably drive through downtown and show her around. Mark is working all day today and mostly through her stay....I'm pretty much ON HOLIDAY! (I LOVE TO SAY THAT!!!!).
She traveled to Minneapolis/St Paul with a group of approx 20 other french students 3 days ago so she got to see many things before we got her. She got to go to some of the places that were on my list that I want to visit but we will probably go to them anyhow again....like The Stone Arch Bridge and MOA, the Walkeer Art sculpture garden and Hard Rock Cafe!
She also went to the Wave pool in Coon Rapids, Cub Foods, bowling at Flahertys, McDonalds. They drove down Summit Ave!
whew! she was tired last night! girls fell asleep to Charlies Angels Full Throttle.
I still keep in touch with our Swedish exchange student from high school. She made many life-long friends during her stay here. She's an MD now and visits the US often. Her foster parents were Harold and Iantha LeVander. Harold went on to become the second So. St. Paulite to become governor of Minnesota.

A little light looks through, her bedroom window.
She dances and I dream, she's not so far as she seems,
Of brighter meadows, melting sunsets,
Her hair blowing in the breeze.
And she can't see me watching.
I'm thinking, love... ahha love...ahha love... ahha love...ahha
It's bittersweet, both and sweet and bitter, bitter and sweet
It's a bitter sweet, surrender
It's bitter sweet, both sweet and bitter
Bitter and sweet, It's a bitter sweet, surrender
I said I'm older now. I work in a city. We live together.
But it's different than my dream.
Morning light fills the room. I rise.
She pretends she's sleeping.
Are we everything we wanted?
I'm thinking, love... ahha love... ahha love... ahha love...ahha
It's bittersweet, both and sweet and bitter, bitter and sweet
It's a bitter sweet, surrender
It's bitter sweet, both sweet and bitter
Bitter and sweet, It's a bitter sweet, surrender
I said I know we don't talk about it.
We don't tell each other...
All the little things that we need.
We work our way around each other
As we tremble and we... as we tremble and we bleed.
As we tremble and we... as we tremble and we bleed.
It's bittersweet, both and sweet and bitter, bitter and sweet
It's a bitter sweet, surrender
It's bitter sweet, both sweet and bitter
Bitter and sweet, It's a bitter sweet, surrender

I'd like to bring in a 15 year old French girl but I might have to fend off the looks from the neighbors. :pbpt:
You're good people J. The experience should be huge for your daughters. Maybe not now but definitely later on in life.
Sound like lifetime memories in the making. I'll be glad to read about it when you post. Thanks.
