the radio station just called me back. apparently in the last hour since they played my call in, they have had like 30 guys call in wanting to know if the car wash hottie was single.
More than the check for $40,000, Keith Boone Sr., director of the NFL Youth Education Town Boys & Girls Club, appreciated the attitude of the givers who arrived at the club on South Broad Street wearing "New Beginnings New Orleans" T-shirts.
"They got off the bus, passed up us adults and went straight for the kids and introduced themselves," Boone said last week. "A person's time is more valuable than any amount of money."
The givers are young professionals, ages 20 to 39, who belong to an organization called Active 20-30 United States & Canada, which raises money for children in need. They are contributing a total of $40,000 to help the NFL YET center Boys & Girls club and two more Boys & Girls clubs in Mississippi that are rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina.
The Active 20-30 group held its annual convention in New Orleans last week, with about 160 members participating, said Richard Middlebrook, a lawyer and the group's international president. The group has 1,206 members in the United States and 3,400 around the world, he said.
Middlebrook, 39, said he is saddened by the devastation Katrina and floodwater caused in New Orleans, a city he enjoyed so much during Mardi Gras 2000 that he has a tattoo of a Carnival mask on his left arm.
Middlebrook and the group's national president, Jennifer Norman, said their group received donations from all over the world for the Gulf coast Boys & Girls clubs.
Active 20-30 member Jacquie Manoukian planned the hands-on activity day at the YET center, including a Wiffle Ball tournament, pizza and an essay-writing award presentation to three youngsters: Craig Pryor, Trunee Clark and Whitney Engram.
"Today, we're here to interact with the children," Norman said.
Meka Francis, a staff member at the YET center club, said Katrina's wrath is reflected in the number of children who attend programs at the center. About 80 children are enrolled this summer, but there were more than 200 children participating in programs there before Katrina hit, she said.
Boone, 37, said the Boys & Girls Club helped him while growing up in the 9th Ward. His childhood experiences at the club "make me want to work a little harder to show the children that you can succeed at anything," Boone said. "I made it."
Norman said she would like to get an Active 20-30 club going in New Orleans. For information about the group, visit www.active20-30.com.
Yes, it is one of the Baghdad palaces. From there it took like 45 minutes to get to Baghdad International Airport... on base. I don't really think that palace was more than 15 miles from the airport.
They really blew the accesses for that place pretty good. I used to have pictures of that, I'll see if they are in my newfound picture stash
If it helps, it was just east of Saddams nature preserve... I mean personal hunting ground. You know all of those wild and scary animals living la vida loca in there penned in area, out in the wild??? Great sport, he was... I wonder if he is still hanging around someplace :eyeroll:
Here is part of it. I don't have the pictures of the rest of it anymore. I toured it and had about 70 pictures inside, plus a good 15-20 from the outside. :frown:
It is cheap... all of the chandeliers had plastic balls, not real crystal like I would have expected. They were all huge though and I am sure immensely expensive, maybe about 2 or so of different sizes throughout the main area and stairwells. But I was pretty unimpressed too when I saw them close up.
Lots of crew out tonight - I think they had fun - I was with my kids and hubby until after the fireworks, then went to join everyone, but rain came shortly after so party ended early for me... but good because I was beat.
I enjoy all my CC friends who stood by me during Comfortably Numb last night. You guys are so much more than I deserve. Top of the line classy people in my book! Thank You all very much!

After almost a year and a half, I'm taking off a couple days for a vacation.
Being the nice guy I am, I'm working doubly hard the next couple days to make my job easier for my coworkers that have to work extra to cover for me.
Given all the extra work I have to do, both before going and after I get back, I don't even know why I'm taking time off. It's more of a pain than it'll be worth.
doesn't matter. I told my one coworker he could call me if there was a MAJOR problem, he's the only one that knows I even have a cell phone, and won't abuse it.
Sadly, I'll be checking my email in the evenings when I have a wifi connection. Hopefully I won't hear anything, but I'm going to be available, just for my own sanity come Tuesday when I get back.
having a REALLY rough day and not wanting to call and talk with anyone about it... I come out of the bank and see a man with long string blond hair and a cowboy hat riding a bike up to me. I step out of the way to allow him to pass me and I comment, with a smile, that "its a nice thing the bank has one", as I point at the bike rack (I dont see them around much and it was the 1st thing that came out of my mouth)... he looks at me and smiles and replies with, "it's nice the world has you". I gave him a sincere thank you and sat in my truck for a few moments just thinking about how nice that was and the timing.
one guy at a time in my wading pool.

I am trying to get some pics uploaded - need to find (in all this mess) my camera software to load onto my new computer.
I'm glad you found a keyboard but know that I still have one for you if you need it.
Too bad you couldn't hang out longer but I can imagine how beat you were. I'm sure you're right down there again today too.
