ok. Friday I picked up my neice, Lexi (age 15-took French) and took all the girls to Como Zoo. They had a good time walking around. We wern't there long and will go back. Got pics with the giraffes and seals. She liked the polar bears. I took her into the greenhouse Mark works at and showed her around a little.

Saturday.

We watched part of Americas got Talent. She said they have that in her country too with different people trying out.

My Sarah needed a swimsuit so we drove to Target. She had never been in a super Target before. She took a picture inside and said that in her country they have grocery stores, clothing stores and cosmetics stores, that they are not all together like this. We took a picture of her outside Target. Target didnt have the suit Sarah needed so we opted to go to Big KMart. First though we went to Taco Bell. She loves cheese so we just ordered for her. Mega Chili Cheese Burritos (Chilitos to us old guys). She really like that. The girls had to show her which side to take bites from so the cheese didn't oooze out. It was cute. We didnt find a swimsuit at KMart either but she got to experience the big stores. We went back home (where Sarah found the other 1/2 of her old swimsuit! uuuuh!).

That afternoon we drove up to our friends Todd and Jodies cabin on So Center Lake in Lindstrom. They have an annual pig roast every middle July. The girls got to play volleyball and tubing on the lake. Its a huge potluck with about 50+ people. Huge bonfire and fireworks down by the lake til midnight. The girls did have a good time. She loved the tubing and volleyball but didn't like the desserts much. She said the brownies and sweets taste too sweet. It turned out perfect in regards to her country was celebrating their biggest holiday - (like our Independence Day). So the fireworks here felt like her own celebration back home. She had her first SMORES down by the bonfire and LOVED them! I looked back at the 3 girls in the truck and they all had on headphones -listening to music. I asked what she was listening to...Justin Timberlake- some summer song. Now, she is 15 but very tall and seems mature for her age ....maybe acts 18 to me... but I love when she hears whitney is listening to Highscool musical and asks if she can listen too because she likes that movie too.

Yesterday both Sarahs went to Sarahs girlfriends house (Jennifer-who had an exchange student, but she got homesick after 4 days and flew back home) for a few hours and then I picked them up and we went to PanTera Bread. A little overwelming with all the options. She liked the Strawberry smoothie and the cream cheese for the bagel. The place was filled with people on laptops. We drove over to Rosedale where she wanted to visit American Eagle and Hollister. She says malls are closed on Sundays so this was a treat to shop on a Sunday. I could hear her in the back seat as we drove up to Rosedale..."ooooohhhh" -cause it was so big. She has been out to MOA already but this was still pretty cool to her. I see how this is gonna cost me..... She purchases 1 top from Hollister (ON SALE at that) = $10 American dollar..... me & my girls = $190!!

We came home and they watched a couple of movies- Happy Feet & Grease. I was soooo tired, I just went up to bed and watched tv.

We talked about going to the "cinema" which we call going to the "movies".

She would go with her parents on some Wednesdays because thats when movies came out in Lyon. Or, they would go on Sundays because the malls were closed. The last couple movies she saw were Oceans 13 and Babel (not sure if thats the one with Brad Pitt or not though) and her dad took her to see Die Hard 4. She saw the other die hards on tv before going. The movies don't have sub-titles but the actors mouths move to English but she hears French. I'm looking forward to taking her to Ratatoui because the mouse/rat is french?

She bites her nails but we still thought it fun to get french manicures in America sometime this week! or maybe a French pedicure

The look on her face when I opened the cupboard and told her to pick out a cereal for breakfast was priceless  - we have 2 shelves in 2 cabinets dedicated to cereal and 2 more boxes on the counter. She chose Cookie Crisp.

Hey J - Did you see the fireworks on TV tonight? I wish we could have the tunes broadcast during the show so we could see how it is first hand. They were right on with the tunes. Very cool indeed!

Here's some raw youtube footage anyway.

FYI J - Don't tell French Sarah but contrary to what she said when we were in that top floor vacancy, her city doesn't have any buildings even close in height to ours. I had to look it up because I never heard of Lyon as being a huge metropolis of any kind. It's about the same as Minneapolis in size and a bit bigger as far as their metro area.

ty for the fireworks -

I knew you & sarah had a cultural misinterpretation of eachother during that conversation, I was gonna say something after she walked away but then I forgot. She had never been that high before. When we were in Landmark Towers (downtown St. Paul) that was as high as she had ever been til 225. me too! cept for an airplane. Nice to see all the freetime you have at work to look this stuff up. ty -

how far back to you keep Letterman?

I ALWAYS seem to fall asleep just before the interviews I wanna see! :frown: last night was one of those times. I wanted to see Drews announcement...only to hear about it thismorning on Goodmorning America. I would love to watch past episodes that Ive missed :frown:

The video was posted next to the story I linked to above. Bummer for me as I tape Letterman every single night and have tons of Best Of tapes and DVDs, only to have my new DVR crap out on me just as I was setting it up. By the time Comcast finally reset it, the moment past and erased what was already on there.

Because I knew it was coming, I made sure everything was good to go. But Nooooooo!

And I pay for this shit?!?

I need to look into getting my own DVR or using my DVD recorder more than just making best of DVRs. Being forced to pay $80 just to have the DVR is pretty sad. I can get my own and pay $16. But the up front cost sucks. I need to weigh the piece-of-mind feeling and see if it's worth it.
