See, I do my job, and a little extra - so I look like a team player, then I hide so when they want extra stuff done, they think i'm busy.

...little do they know.

good luck KC - tell them you'll help out AFTER the break - and if your boss gives you any crap, remind him, without you - he'd have a lot MORE to deal with.

you being gone for a few days - might make him realize how important you are.

I've actually met KC's boss, he's not really exaggerating about his work situation much. I used to staff for them (thanks, KC, for getting me in the door) and his boss tends to hire the cheapest possible person to get the job done, which is why Joel's surrounded by idiots.

great.. one of my coworkers managed to get some spyware/virus on her computer. It's going to take me hours upon hours to fix it! Grrrrr   I know she either got it from one of her mass emails or a website she surfed to.

I shut the darn thing off because it was clogging the network here. Then I left a big sign on it not to turn the thing on until i get back. Lets see them work with one less computer for the week.

we're losing the fucking house.

my uncle and my dads lawyer have decided that the house should be sold, and I need to get my ass out.

I almost got arrested yesterday, because I flipped out on them all.... took off before the cops could get there.

got a speeding ticket on the way home.

Dang, sorry bout the house Nick. Can't you buy it?
Wed, 07/18/2007 - 12:21 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

Its all up to my uncle....

the money from the sale would come to me.... eventually.

It goes into a trust fund that's set up in my name... I cant get any of it until I turn 40...

If theres a big purchase, like a house, car, etc, I can ask my uncle for money on it.... he can say yes, or no..... whatever he thinks is in the best interest of what my dad wanted done... (i know for a fact that he didnt want the house sold, and wanted it to stay with me, but both my uncle, and the laywer say otherwise)

but I can guarantee that it'll be "no"

I dont know what the fuck we're going to do.

my first instinct, was to just cash it all in, take what I have - put it into storage, and leave town....

screw em all, and be done with it.

got a letter today from the lawyer...

basically reminding me that my uncle gets to decide what he wants to do, and doesnt have to answer to anybody....

also states that the lawyer doesnt want to see me in person, unless a whole gang of people are present - her "law practice partner", my mom, my sister, my uncle....

my uncle also doesnt want to see/talk to me until said time occurs (if it ever does)....

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but isn't this a good thing for Nick? All of the crap that he's gone through over the last several years, a fresh start in a new place might be just what he needs?

Just as an add-on - it's pretty s*itty to throw the guy out on his ass, even if you're selling the house for positive reasons. And, in this time, selling takes FOR-EVER so kicking him out doesn't even make financial sense.
    Fri, 07/20/2007 - 8:35 AM Permalink
    Wicked Nick

what also doesnt make sense, is that my uncle says the reason he's doing it, is because its what my dad would have wanted...

    excuse me?

no... my dad had clearly stated that he wanted the house to remain within the family, and hopefully I'd be living here, and raising my own family in the place.

he also thinks that i'm too immature to own a home, and cant keep up with the bills.... which hasnt been the case, and really, doesnt look to be the case....

I still don't see why you can't buy it. If it's for sale anybody can buy it. Just use your own loan and your uncle has nothing to do with it.

When I saw this post, I tried to recall what a friend of mine says about fear - its a good quote - but I can't quite get it to come to mind - and she is away on a business trip, so...

I did some googling and found the following quotes.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

-- Frank Herbert, Dune. Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear.

Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.

    James A. Baldwin

"All of us are born with a set of instinctive fears--of falling, of the dark, of lobsters, of falling on lobsters in the dark, or speaking before a Rotary Club, and of the words "Some Assembly Required."

    ---- Dave Barry

In energy healing, we learned that fear sits in the solar plexus - the gut. We can meditate, bringing breath (inspiration) to this center, with the intention of saying "no and goodbye" to fearful connections we have with the world, and then replace them with sending as much love as we want, from our heart center, to that person or place or thing which was previously fraught with fear, either because we feared the harm it could bring us, but most often, because we feared losing someone or something very dear. This does not mean we lose what we love because we fear, but rather that fear can rob our hearts and souls of joy. To focus on sending and receiving love at one's heart center can help take away the power of fear.

I just got back today and noticed that. I officially have no way to get to work without going through a bunch of construction. Even by my house there's a bunch. What the heck? Is the DOT spending money like drunken sailors now? I mean I know it'll be nice in the end, but it's a huge headache for me every day to deal with detours everywhere I go. And I wish I was exaggerating..

Pretty good. I think I averaged about 4 hours of sleep a night on the roads though. The cachers I went with are pretty crazy. Usually we just pulled into a walmart parking lot and slept in the minivan. BTW, the seats aren't quite comfortable enough to get a good night's rest.

Sadly, I zonked out in a meeting at work here. Heh.

Blah.. screw taking time off. It's a frickin headache trying to keep everyone happy, that's on both the work and personal stuff.

Oddly enough it's the personal stuff that gets me. The people that kept harping on me to take time off and get a vacation are the same ones acting like I'm ignoring them or worse when I get back from a vacation. Umm.. hello? I just got back from a week off, I'm sorry if I haven't been there to take care of this or that, or just to spend time with you, but I'm trying to recover from all the stuff that didn't get done while I was gone.

Next time someone tells me I need to take time off, I'm going to tell them I can't afford the time it takes to keep them from harping on me.

Your situation sounds like a few jobs I've had!

It is a perpetual stress, and I've never found an effective remedy for dealing with energy-sucking people like that.

I'd sure encourage you to start envisioning your next job and its environment, then - quickly or slowly - start seeking it out and making it happen.

Only after being away from that kind of situation did I fully realize the toll it was taking on me. Workplaces like that give lip service to "balance" in one's life but they do nothing to help it happen.

Good luck, in the meantime, and with whatever you decide to do next!

    KC0GRN

Lol actually this time, it has very little to do with my job.

It's just people I know and usually hang out with. I mean, why bother taking a vacation and going somewhere when all you come home to is people whining about how you haven't gotten something done for them, or how you're ignoring them.

I thought a vacation and time away was a good time for the people you're normally around to have a break from you, and maybe realize what you mean to them.

  • sigh* I don't know, it seems like another one of those damned if you do damned if you don't situations.

    Oh for crying out loud.

I get in to work and there's a panic about the fax number being disconnected. So my boss tells my coworkers to call me so I can get in here ASAP to take care of it. I swear I'm on call 24 hours a day for that man. Luckily I was correct on my first assumption of the problem, and now I get to play the tech support game for the next few hours where A. My boss calls me every 10 minutes and B. I call the tech support company every 10 minutes between.

Next he'll be telling me to call around and find a cheaper fax service that we can port the fax number to. Why? Because he's cheap, too cheap, and expects 100% quality service from the places he deals with. If he doesn't get it, it's my problem to deal with.

I know, it's my fault though for sticking around this place, what can I expect, things to get better? Not while my boss controls the company.
