What irritates you?

somthing irking you? pissing you off? rant about it here.

I have been there with a friend. They typically have slightly older vehicles than the other one here in Rosemount - AAA Auto Salvage.

Not a bad place but like the name says, you pull your parts. I used to go to AAA if I could, because they had all of their stuff pulled out and on a shelf. I got zephswifes engine for her last car there. They even loaded it in my trunk for me. Was a good deal. A 3.1L V6 for less than $300.

I'm very interested in reading the information, as it becomes available, about the structural data on the collapsed bridge.

As a researcher who has worked in an engineering environment, I am used to gathering data, piece by piece, clarifying information along the way so I gain understanding as I go.

There was an article about the south end of the bridge shifting 50 feet. The headline said it shifted BEFORE the collapse. The article said it shifted DURING the collapse.

I posted a reply, asking the reporter to clarify. The reporter very quickly corrected the headline.

The two replies after mine were one saying to "relax" as not all the data is in yet, and asking why anyone would believe anything that's being said, anyway.

I don't believe everything I read. But I do keep track of what I've read and note when something contradicts it later.

I used to have a difficult time asking questions. Now that research work has awakened more curiosity in me, and I have so many questions I want to ask, I find that many people would rather put others down than to try to have an intelligent discussion about what is going on.

I understand eags - as I taped everything over the first couple of days I was watching for the descrepencies and contradictions on everything from the 'why's and the who's'

interesting enough, Ive noticed that our local stations havn't been letting out as much info as the foxnews and cnn coverage. ie: CNN broadcast for over an hour about how many people were presumed dead (at the time they said 3). Only channel 5 covered the President here!!! I taped that! couldnt beleive no other station (including cnn) broadcast it.

I have not read the local newspapers though -

Im bringing myself to terms first.

Im interested on your take

I heard from a friend (that has a friend who crossed the bridge and hour prior) thats said the bridge was making vibrarting when they crossed it. :frown:

I hope people who noticed things, like vibrating, will report it. It may be an important clue.

I read the report of the guy who says the Lafayette Bridge vibrates - he mentioned that it happens during rush hour - and that he won't drive on it anymore.

And he's right. I realized when I read that, I've noticed that same thing. Probably the third to the last time I came into town. Since then, I've been staying on 35E to St. Clair and crossing on the high bridge. Not for that conscious reason, but I do recall feeling really unsafe on the Lafayette that time.

I'd like to hear more about the special de-icing chemicals that were used on that bridge. I'm not saying I think that's what caused it - just more a matter of curiosity or maybe to rule it out, in my mind.

I thought it was really important for the news media to report that bridge shift accurately - there is a big difference between shifted before it fell, and shifted as it fell, and no point people being misled, unintentionally, because of a hastily composed headline or - gods forbid - a desire to sensationalize the news.

I've always thought that bridge was the worst one in the cities. You just have to wait at the 7th St. lights one time to know what I'm talking about. That thing bounces more than a low rider with hydraulics. Scary stuff then, even more so now. They should mount a camera on the front of Savoys just in case. :worried:

Ha! I guess NTSB was reading my mind, or I was reading theirs!!

NTSB asks bridge survivors, witnesses to call hotline: The National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the Interstate 35W bridge collapse, is asking everyone who witnessed or was on the bridge when it fell Wednesday to call a witness line. Many people at the scene spoke to firefighters or other responders, but may not have been interviewed by law enforcement, a news release said. The NTSB will examine witness accounts and other available information to determine what led to the bridge's collapse. Anyone who was one the bridge when it collapsed or witnessed the incident and has not yet been interviewed by law enforcement officials should call 866-328-6347.

yup your right but then they dropped it to 3 and thats before our local news ever mentioned any. :frown:

I drive Lafayette daily - I know the vibrations but didnt think that was out of the ordinary. What I noticed bizarre about that bridge is that if you got into an accident and your car flipped...you better hope it flips into oncoming traffic and not over the edge into the river because the only thing from keeping us from going over is a 3 foot high concrete median barrier.

Just for clarification, Tony Bennett who commented on the Lafayette Bridge is a woman and a commissioner for Ramsey County.

Oops. You're right. I do tend to mix those up. Tony Bennett is indeed a guy. It's Toni Carter who is also a commissioner who is a woman.

I'll just go back to work now and shut up. :eyeroll:

I think its smart of our local news to not give us a #...why??

Heck...I could just go on record and say 13 are confirmed dead.......if i'm right...I look smart...if I was wrong...I could just say my info was off just a tad...

I'd like to hear the number that are potentially among the missing, and have it stated that way. Also the number of vehicles found that they have not been able to connect to reported missing persons. I agree they should not state a number of confirmed dead if they are not confirmed.

Just make sure it's high enough so that motorcycles with dogs on the back don't hit it. (or cars)

(I was working at the space center near there the night the motorcycle lodged himself in the wall.)

I also worked on the dock directly under the bridge for years. That bridge does make a lot of noise. We heard it all the time. Expecially when trucks went over.

I can hear the sound in my head now that you reminded me of it.

I'm really surprised that nobody ever got hurt walking under it. People park down in the lots nearby and walk to downtown. When the plows come by in the winter all that snow and slush goes right off the edge. Almost got me once. I learned not to park my car there anymore when it snowed.

A friend of mine, who lives near Tacoma, got to go up on the construction site of the new Tacoma Narrows bridge, which just opened last month to traffic.

The pic attached is her and her "view from the top".

Not like it irritates me, but it does seem to follow with what we're talking about right now...

Ughh.. early mornings at work.

Kinda nice though, it's quiet for a change.

Fixing a virus on a coworker's computer. If you ask me, she owes me big time for this. She does way too much web surfing and responds to every form of email out there, fills out online surveys and all that crap. Geee I wonder how she ever got a virus....

Well... Crap!

"There is a body of opinion that holds this to be forbiddingly impractical. Even if the nature and composition of a rootkit is known, the time and effort of a system administrator with the necessary skills or experience would be better spent re-installing the operating system from scratch. Since drive imaging software makes the task of restoring a “clean” OS installation almost trivial, there is no good reason to try to dig a rootkit out directly. "I suppose traditional rootkits could be made to be as hard to remove as possible even when found, but I doubt this is much incentive for that, because the typical reaction of an experienced sysadmin on finding a rooted system is to save the data files, then reformat. This is so even if the rootkit is very well known and can be removed 100%." Rootkit Question"

I love the removal recommendations for a rootkit virus.

Looks like a LOOONNNNNGGGGGG day for me.

You really really want to name your daughter after her father or grandfather, or other male person. However, you can't think of any good names that work, short of calling your daughter Donaldette.

Creating feminine forms of masculine names is an age-old practice. Here are some ideas, though not necessarily etymologically correct... they would still work in a pinch without having ro resort to something weird and contrived (like Walterina).

James -- ""Jamesina"", Jimi, Jamie, Jem

Well, they tried...
