This morning I drove out to the airport to pick up our daughter and her friend and friend's kids.
The drive to the airport takes one along Hiway 5 near Fort Snelling and a drive on a bridge spanning the river.
Just trying to get thoughts around what it would be like to have that road disappear and free fall that distance was impossible.
Then this evening I went to get my hair done. My hairdresser's wife was telling me that she had heard at work today an incredibly sad story.
I don't know that I have all this absolutely correct, but there was a parent, a young child and a baby in the car. The child freed herself and tried freeing the baby. She couldn't get the car seat unbuckled and with the water rising in the car, she had to give up. I don't know what happened to the parent.
I think as the next few days unfold, we will hear more of those stories.
Lots of trauma that will affect people the rest of their lives.
yes vino you cheated i forgot that some of you are on my myspace!!!!! i am going to take that dump thing down and fry my site off there for good!!!!! but yes it is the 9th and all is good with nick and his sexy women!! they are safe and sound!! he called me after the game i left him a voicemail to call and let me know he was all good!!!!! he said he didnt go that way!!!!! they went across 94 to get there!!!!! ok so all birthday wishes aside i hate that day!!!!!
does anyone, (kc or cm), have the winter carnival ice palace 'day by day' footage taken fron Excel Wild? maybe have it on cd or in your computer somewhere ?
being that we're in saint paul, we usually take 94 West, to MPLS... or shoot down Larpentuer - cause it turns into Hennepin.
although, if Carolyn still lived at her moms place in Northeast MPLS, we would have been on that bridge, when it went down.
Ive never liked driving on that thing.... always had the urge to speed, until I was over it.... same with Laffayette.... and I hear that thing is on their "needs to be checked out" list....
we got over there, shortly after it happened.... parked in the Valspar parking lot, near the dome, and saw all the smoke, from the trailer that was on fire... so we headed down that way....
looked like thousands of cops, all over the place... they had everything taped off already, so we couldnt get anyplace near it....
we walked around for quite awhile, trying to get a decent view of it... didnt actually get any good pictures, but the ones I did get, I'll post in the pics thread anyways....
ended up getting to the game, during the 2nd or 3rd inning....
Twins lost - in the 10th inning, by 2 runs...
they didnt announce anything in the dome, about what was going on outside.... just had a thing, in between every inning, saying that all major routes, except 94, were closed, as well as side streets, and to find alternate ways to go home....
they basically closed off anything else that had a bridge.....
we had heard cops yelling at some bikers that wanted to get onto the Hennepin Ave bridge, that they needed to stay off "because all the other bridges could fall down, at any moment" .....
dunno...
I came home to like 15 voicemails, most from my sister....
called Iceman back, cause he was on one of them also.... talked to Me2, the next day....
so... yeah...
we're okay.
even though, with this year - the nightmare is finally over and done with -
August 1st, already was a bad anniversary for me.....
I'm glad that we're both living here now.... didnt need it to be any worse....
Nick-A-Palooza at the Apple River, in a couple weeks.
So I took 35W all the way to University/4th Street exit - No one was really on it.. kind of eerie - all the construction trucks and equipment is still there - concrete is all white/powdery looking from the previous work - but yet silent.. feeling that there is something terrible wrong ahead.
I think they are expecting more people to begin using this route as they had a traffic cop at the top of the ramp to keep traffic moving - I hope that many decided not to take this route, I got into downtown in 15mins from White Bear Ave
All of my last three work days have been a breeze to get to work. Even better than normal. I take 35W in to DT from the south and today felt like a weekend. 65-70mph the whole way with the exception of the construction by Crosstown as the only slow down. And that was still over 55mph. I hope this info doesn't get out too soon. I'm liking it so far.
kinda strange in St Paul too- I pulled into downtown at 11 this morning and there were no cars parked around my building - I thought it may be some holiday -then about 6:45 (to be exact for becks  ) I went to the bank and the shades were drawn and no one in the lot -I thought they were closed or being robbed. where are all the people?
I know it was some kind of holiday in Canada anyway since I tried to get that damn headlight housing of mine and a recording said they were closed due to a national holiday. Maybe we have more Canadians living around here than we think.
I agree. I really have enjoyed the time I've spent in Canada. And I get goosebumps when I hear their national anthem. LOL!
And speaking of maple leafs -
While in Toronto on business, a co-worker and I went out for dinner. When we were finished, I asked the hostess to call a taxi for us. She did so, and informed me to watch for a Maple Leaf taxi. I conveyed this info to my co-worker, but she heard it wrong. She said, "they are sending a make-believe taxi???"
I rove to a couple of different places in my new gig, one of which is across the street from where Cluemaster works, and he gave me a tour the other day, and told me about the different buildings that his co. manages.
So, I'm coming back from an appointment, and I see a big tall guy, grey crew cut, wearing a suit, on the corner, pointing at the building Cluey works at, and talking to a woman.
I walk behind them (haven't seen their faces), and say "He doesn't know what he's talking about, don't believe him." and kept walking.
That guy probably was pretty offended, considering it wasn't Cluemaster.
kitch you should come out and play some cards tonight at the dive bar!!!!! aka the bird about time they changed the name to something fitting for that place!!!!!
I pulled up next to a guy on a red BMW motorcycle with full face mask and black riding gear the other day - rolled down my window and started shouting.. HEY DUMBASS!!!! U wanna go to walmart?
The guy finally turns to me, and that's when I realize it's not my roommate, and smile, shyly, roll up my window and attempt to make a right turn to get out of the situation as fast as possible.
I am thinking One of these days this week I would like to get a few people together!! sence it is my birthday tomorrow!!! and go to grab a bite to eat!!!! and hang out!!! anyone in!!!!!!!!!

they've even taken over parts of Minnesota... look at the street signs in Maplewood.
we even have a city called "Little Canada".
Snooze I loose I guess. I called for that part right away in the morning and it was already sold. I forgot about the time difference. Shoot!
