picking out light - means kinda what Kitch said..

what we do, is during growing we monitor the cluster size/weights, and then right before we pick, we estimate how many tons per acre we are going to get.

Sometimes we are right on, other times we aren't (i think this may have to do with the person doing the estimating) but this year - everything is coming in about 30% lighter than estimate

could be attributed to the fact that the last 3 days were really hot, so we've had sugars spike and are bring fruit in like crazy - when the sugar spike happens, it also is an indiciation of the grape's water content evaporating a little..

when you have smaller grapes - you do have (to a point) more concentrated flavors, but you also have more concentrated tannins, as the tannins are in the seeds and skins, so your skin/see contact to juice ratio is higher.

reason I don't like picking out light.. we will scramble for more fruit to buy last minute contracts - which means triple the paperwork for me. I've already got my contracts squared away.. I don't wanna go back and have to revise stuff. I hate that.

the other thing that makes me hate picking out light (or heavy) I have to adjust what tanks I'm going to crush into at the last minute - run around and make sure everyone makes the changes to the work orders

and also make sure that the press we are using is the optimum capacity. if it picks out too light, we need to put it in the smaller presses - however if that's the case - then sometimes we need to send small bins out to the vineyard etc. it can be a nightmare.

choke gag ...cough ... HHHoly....

I went shopping with the girls a few weeks back. Went to Old Navy and they had this deal...put what you purchase on your Old Navy card and save 20% right then. (not open an account -just use your existing old navy)... We only had $70 in clothes but anything saved was a good thing! I didn't have my card with me (havn't used in a couple of years) so the lady tried to look me up...but she said they couldn't find me in their system. ok, fine, quickly open it up again....

I just opened the letter with the new card....

not only is it a VISA Old Navy Card but the credit limit is 6 grand!!!!!!!!!!! ::eyes bug out::

they REALLY want a person in debt! HELLO????

didn't you guys look at how much credit I already have???? I could max everything out and move comfortably to Italy and never be seen again!!!!!

Target did the same thing last year- thinking Im opening a Target card and I get a Target VISA!!!! came in handy one day when I had to rush the cat to the vet but damn!!!

YES, I pay off the balance in FULL when I do have to use it-

I DON"T NEED THIS MUCH CREDIT!!!!

hey kitch, could I really be caught and extridited back to the states if I maxed over $100,000 in cc's? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

that's crazy Me2.

when I was 12, my mom got me a picture ID card, cause she had me get a checking acct - (for my baby sitting money - to teach me responsibility)

by 14, i had my first credit card - she co- signed for it... she told me the limit was $100...

then about a year later, i was making out the payment for my spending on the CC, and looked at the actual statement (usually she just told me what it was..) and saw that it wasn't $100.

It was like 80k (my mom had good credit)

when i was 18 and started applying for my own, i had several platnium cards with 60 or 70k ..

it was scary. sadly - now my biggest one is like, um, 5k I think.

Got my car back, they replaced the intermediate shaft (the part that connects the steering wheel to the steering column, err whatever). So I'm driving back to work (first mistake) and I noticed the steering wheel is off center. Meaning when I drive straight, the wheel slants to the right, as if I were making a lane adjustment or a slight right turn.

So, I get on the phone and call my dealer, and I get "Umm.. the intermediate shaft doesn't have anything to do with the alignment of the steering wheel".

Uhhh, duh! I brought the car in and the wheel was perfectly centered when driving straight. When I got the car back, it leans to the right to drive straight. Obviously something you did screwed something up....

Taking it back in the morning, and I'm sitting there until it's fixed. I'm NOT going without a car for another day this week, once is more than enough.

The good part of it is that it potentially could boost your credit score. If you don't use it very much... By having a low debt to credit ratio (is that the terms I am thinking?) it shows that you are responsible and don't use all of the credit that is offered to you, making you a better credit risk in the future.

I wish I had a credit score of zero

or ... 17
for the one emergency card I would have

what credit score could I have with 1 emergency card Kitch? I know people have zero, but what could be the next number up from there ?(don't say 1  ) .... does it just jump from zero to 800 with 1 excellent rated card?

good luck figuring out how FICO..I've got no idea how it all really works (NOBODY REALLY DOES)...

all I know is this.....

I know that some stuff that doesn't show up on a credit bureau does effect your scoring...such as not paying your "record club contract" you know.the ones that are 13 albums for a penny...

I know they are going to put a stop to piggybacking...

Doesn't irritate, but makes me sad. There is an injured homing pigeon in my back yard. It can't fly. I've tried coaxing it to me so I can read its tag, but it won't let me pick it up. I took the bottom off an old bird cage thinking I could grab it easier if it was confined, but it waddles away into the bushes when I try that. I'm afraid one of the neighborhood cats is going to get it. :frown:

Is the lost pigeon a local pigeon? I couldn't find the info in the link. Should I call someone?

I'm not sure it can fly. It did fly up to my porch roof when I tried to catch it, but not directly. It flew up and grabbed onto the screen on the first floor window and then up to the roof. Now it's on the ground again. It does have seed. I'll put some water out.

I just know a cat is going to get it. :worried:

Good grief! They want me to build a box trap for the pigeon!

Jane, thank you for reporting this bird. He does sound like he's in trouble. There is a link below on setting up a box trap, but you probably don't need to go to that extent to get this little one. You can take a look at it. Please do let me know when you've captured the bird. Once I have the complete band info, I can probably trace it. Good luck. Renee

Box trap instructions:

http://www.racingbirds.com/ptrap.html

Ahhhh, yeah. I'll get right on that. :eyeroll:

I thought they'd come out and get it!

This bird can't really be 37 years old, can it?? It's banded with the letters BJ (shut up!) and the numbers 1970. I guess the set of numbers are the year the bird was hatched!

Thanks. I don't have enough letters and numbers to use that though.

They also suggested I leave my garage door open because they roost, but I'm leaving town for the weekend and I'm sure not going to leave my garage door open.

I'm afraid this pigeon is doomed. :frown:

There used to be a guy about half a mile from me who kept pigeons, but he died. He would have helped me out.

When I first went out in the yard my first thought was it was a dove. Then I saw it was larger and not gray like a mourning dove. When I realized it was a pigeon I wasn't very happy. I remember when I was a little girl and there were pigeons nesting in our eaves and we had fake snakes to scare them off.

This guy was black with an iridescent neck and white tail feathers.

Seeing the staff members at the ecology building sitting at both entrances, counting the number of people coming in that building.

To my knowledge, no other building counts the number of attenders, and the fair just counts the tickets collected.

I know they're doing it just to have attendance numbers to justify their existence at the fair.

I think it's time for my yearly complaint to the fair, bring back the technology building, or make up a new one. I'm not saying the ecology center isn't welcome at the fair, it's just not cool with me that they gained a location by displacing one of the main reasons I enjoyed going.
