they're also in the process of training/introducing a new seal into the zoo....

Could the inside lions go outside? That's cruel if they can't.
Wed, 09/12/2007 - 9:56 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

yeah.... they switch them off....

they only let one pair out at a time, so they dont fight...

the two males are brothers

It was pretty nice out there... hardly anyone there at all when I was there...

I like it when its like that.... the animals almost seem like they're happy to see you....

thats why winter/fall - when it starts getting cold - is some of the best times to go there.... you have the place to yourself, basically.

Some news to share about Como -

Once again the Winter Carnival will be giving some $$ to the zoo for the polar bear exhibit.

We are waiting to find out how much went last year - last year a portion of button sales was to go to the exhibit (if the festival ended in black) - Carnival ended in the red last year - but they still gave the zoo some $$ and plan to do they same again this year (or so I heard).

Here's a couple from our day in the air over the Mississippi river. Man was that a blast. Ali was scared to fly before hand but wanted to go right back up when we landed.

I'm always amazed on how dirty the Mississippi is when it meets the Croix. I seen so many personal landmarks along the way. Super cool!

I can see my house! Well, kind of. It's hidden by trees. But I can see the house behind me.

Were they giving rides at Fleming Field this weekend?

That's the Cottage View Drive-In along hwy 61.

They do this thing once a year for the kids called the Young Eagles flying club. Harrison Ford started it. I talked with the organizer ahead of time so I could get a seat too. No other parents were allowed to go up.

Nice.. wish I had the $$ to get my pilot's license.
Mon, 09/17/2007 - 8:56 AM Permalink
Clue Master

It sure is a cool feeling. It's not just being high, I get that at work, it's the thrill that nothing is between you and the ground. The pilot even has to go over certain things to say before taking off. Mainly having to do with emergency procedures if we're going to crash. Both Ali and I didn't like that part but knew it was necessary. I'm sure that she was just like me and always looking for an open area to land just in case.

if you ever get a chance, go up in a glider.

That is way fun - way more than a hot air balloon.

My nephew is a pilot, ordinarily pilots B52's, but owns a small plane too. It's the same plane Corey Lidle crashed in NY last year. With the parachute. He flies up to our family vacations from Louisiana in it. He gives rides to anyone who is interested out of the Alexandria airport.

Last summer was his first year with this new plane. The first instruction he gave was if he was incapacitated in anyway while in the air, do a pull up on this bar on the roof and the parachute would deploy. I still went up.

It's a beautiful ride up there with all the lakes. He always buzzes our resort and lets the older kids take the controls for a while. They think that's cool.

the first time I was ever in an airplane, it was in one of those high wing airplanes....

enough room in it, for maybe 4-5 people... like the size of a car...

I was probably about 7 or 8.... me and my dad went down to Holman Field, because there was an air show going on, that usually happens every summer...

they had all kinds of bomber planes, that you could check out the insides of...

and I think it was like 50 bucks, they'd take you up in one of the planes like we went up in.... you got like 15 minutes or something like that....

was really fun...

helicopter rides are cool too, if ou ever get the chance

My best helicopter ride was over Kauai Hawaii. Super beautiful and one of the highlights of our honeymoon. The ride over the last Ice Palace was cool too but just a bit colder.

The way you sit in them is the best... doing an almost 90 degree bank and looking almost straight down with only that crappy seatbelt to hold you in  Priceless.

She is a hottie  and so sweet too

I sat with her at the airport once - we were catching flights out. Hubby and I went to the bar. She was in the bar too, I said to him "there's Robyn R" I said "Hi Robyn" and we sat there talking together until we finished our drinks and caught our flights
