Santa Dave Memories

Submitted by ares on

I thought it would be nice to have a spot for us to share our memories of Dave, just like we did with Kirk, and we can get them passed along to his family.

Terry

I received this email with photos tonight. If anyone would like them and didn't get the email, I would be happy to send them to you if you PM me your email address.

Friends,

I decided that these photos were good, they were mixed in with a group of others taken December 2005, at my sister, Mary's home. I wanted to share them with the Friends for whom I had e-mail addresses. You can copy and forward to anyone else that may like a copy. I think that the one of him in the red cap is extremely good. But it does need cropping. This program is kind of iffy that way. So, I am sending them as is.

I got the same e-mail- however, after I got it I realized she had sent me e-mails with pics about a month ago which I deleted before opening because I didn't realize they were from her (thought it was spam at work) til I got this e-mail today. So if anyone has those I would love for you to forward them to me. Thanks :frown:

They have a creepy guy working the freakshow in the midway who claims that he's a munchkin from the Wiz - Not the same guy though.

Who are the other people in the Santa Dave pics above? Thanks.

Esther didn't say who they were. One is obviously one of the munchkins with the lollipop guild. The rest are a mystery.

thanks - I was mostly wondering if the one guy happened to be Jerry Maren - the munchkin I e-mailed. I never did hear back.

my friend's daughter's best friend is a little person. she will love seeing that photo. she was at our recent floozy tea party and she came as queen of the munchkins.

The little guy here looks like the butler from the movie 'Waxwork'. I tried looking up to see what his name was, and it was Gerry lively. Looking on the cake, I couldn't tell for sure if his name was spelled Gerry, or Jerry... hmmm...

I couldn't find any pictures anywhere, IMDB didn't have any either, so I am not sure if that is who he is or not.

On the munchkin debate, it appears that there are 8 left...http://www.deadspin.com/sports/baseball/royals-munchkingate-rocks-baseb…

And after researching all of this....

The guy pictured above is Jerry Maren, the center lollipop kid...

source " http://www.kansasoz.com/munchkins/index.htm " included on this page is the list of 16 surviving munchkins.

Looking at the pictures there, the scary guy doesn't appear to be one of the surviving munchkins... but there are a couple that have no picture.

isn't he the guy who eats fire?

I saw his act at the fair a couple years ago.

its pretty cool that they do a show outside the tent to get you to go inside the tent.

Id love to see all the freak shows at the fair sometime

I never have.

reminds me of Ripleys Believe it or Not

I loved the original show as a kid, not the 90's remake with the actor who also played Superman on the tv show.

I went to one of the Ripley Museums (Branson, Missouri I think) and have one of the old books. Every once in a while Id come across a newspaper clipping of those when searching microfilm at the library. AWESOME stuff!

Now theres a job I would love to have - carry on Ripleys memory and go out around the world to verify unbelievable talent and life.

me and my mom met Jerry Marin at the fair last year... he had a booth in the grandstand building

he was doing autographs, and stuff - my mom got a picture/still of the lollipop guild from the movie, and he autographed it for her....

the freakshow guy in that first pic, is definately not him.

No you wouldn't. It's all illusion now and nothing like the midget guy out front. Just watch Room 401 on MTV and you'll get the whole act. It's pretty comical though. I still thought it was worth it but wouldn't need to go back now for at least 20 years anyway. :eyeroll:

I miss the 900lb teenager. :frown:

I remember Lizard Man. The barker would try to entice you inside with, "He walks, he talks, he crawls on his belly like a snake". :eyeroll:

I haven't been on the Midway in years. I didn't even know they still had the freak show. And I hope they don't still call it that!

When I took the girls to the Midway Sunday night...Sarah was on a ride and I was standing with Whitney near the entrance to the tent with the little fire dude. You know, the tent at the back of the Midway with all the characatures painted on the tent of what everyones acts/freakish talent is....I was pointing out which ones were probably mirrors and fakes to her - Id still like to take the kids in and even though this sounds funny... I find it to be a romantic thing to do on a date....along with the Skyride, Ye Old Mill, double ferriswheel, the Space Tower, and the haunted house.

Hello Cooler Crew!

I haven't forgotten about making the Santa Dave book. I hope to have it done in plenty of time for Christmas this year.

If the comedy night gets scheduled this fall, I can push to have it ready in time for that.

More details to follow, as things progress...

Meanwhile, I will glean stories from this thread, and if you have any additional Santa Dave stories you'd like to see included, please post them here!

I've been pulling photos into the Santa Dave book today. Went looking to see if I'm missing any, and ended up in Dave's webpage. I found it rather comforting to go there - love the music - and nice that it is still there.

What a great and absurd tribute to Dave, it made me smile and laugh.

This from Margie - DDY's cousin:

On Thursday of last week at 5:30 AM during a morning thunderstorm.. brief and loud and full of lightening... dad passed away. We were there with him and sat with him during his hours of fever and then of deep sleep. In the quiet of his room with the little cloud burst outside he went someplace greater.

Thank you for letting me share... I am sorry that I didn't post anymore of the clues from the globe. I had even inadvertantly sent it to my book list people.. *sigh*... so that clue never made it to you guys.

Take care of each other and enjoy the fall colors.

My Best to each of you!

Margie

Just feeling the need to share this....

Posted on the front of Allison's Mason Lodge is a sign advertising a spaghetti dinner open to the public on September 29th.

As I noticed that a few days ago, I thought of having to let DDY know. Then I remembered. Spaghetti was his favorite food.

When's Dave's birthday? Maybe, in addition to the PDG and the RHB we should make it a cooler tradition to have a potluck and celebrate Dave's birthday every year.

His birthday is 12-21. Tough time to get everyone together just a few days before Christmas.
