Having our window washers stuck outside right now hovering 46 floors above 6th st! I guess a big gust of wind came and swung them so bad that their bucket controls jammed. The engineers are trying to do something manual right now. I'm gonna head up too.

So...

we had my dads funeral nearly 5 months ago, and the navy was supposed to take care of the grave marker/headstone/whatever for free, because my dad was in....

all we had to do was pay for the setting... which costed like 300 bucks....

my uncle got a call last friday, saying that they had FINALLY gotten it in, and he had to go and sign for it, and they would have it in by monday...

I went out yesterday, and this is what I saw....

they spelled the last name wrong...

should be Goedert

so now they have to take it back out, and re-order a new one, which - taken the amount of time it took to get the first piece of shit in the ground - probably wont happen until next spring, because they dont do it in the winter time, while the ground is frozen...

i'm so fucking pissed off about this.....

I consider it, basically - desecration, of my dads grave....

somebody someplace didnt see that the name was spelled wrong?

not even when they put it in the ground, next to the other markers from my family????

and nobody wants to take responsibility for it....

Forest Lawn, says it was the funeral homes fault, the funeral home says it was the navy....

god dammit....

I can only imagine how upset you must be to see the name mis-spelled! Its tough enough to see that marker for the first time, without also seeing that someone screwed up. I hope they will correct it without too much red tape and hassle, but I know the reality is that anything related to government or military is likely to be fraught with red tape. I'm sorry this happened, Nick. Hugs to you and your family.

You'd think they'd take more time to double check stuff like that. That really sucks though.

Sorry Nick. With a last name like mine I get it all the time but that's a pretty big time to screw up. Everything was right with Amy's papers and everything including the capital G.
