me and Carolyn and Jeremy went to that tonight....
if you go, expect to wait a LONG TIME to get in....
from the time we bought our tickets, til the time we got into the house, it was around 3 hours....
they have a part where they walk you through the woods, and tell you about the murders.... I liked that part more than the house itself, which lasts maybe 10-15 mins...
but it was totally worth the 5 bucks.... and its not that bad, if you bring your kids - as long as they're not super young, and they can wait in line for that long...
if you go, do like their site says, and park in the Henry Sibley highschool parking lot, and take the shuttle.... they were ticketing and towing anybody parked on the street....
plus, Full Throttle was in the shuttle parking area, handing out free energy drinks, anyways...
they make you sign a waiver, before you enter the place too... although we didnt see that, because we bought our tickets and jumped the line, to where Iceman was already at...
my sister was there, someplace tonight too.... she says that it was the biggest waste of time she's ever done... :eyeroll:
btw, nothing beats my great grandmother's old tradition of garage sale donuts. Seriously, I'd take one of those over a box of fresh krispy kremes any day.
I miss those... nobody has made them quite as good since she passed away years ago..
you should see if you can find her recipe, someplace.....
I always like doing that.... if I can find a recipe that belonged to one of my grandparents.... to me, it feels like keeping in touch with them... bringing up memories and stuff...
my grandma on my dads side made some really mean Lefse, never once wrote down a recipe for it.... the only person that knows kinda how to make it nowadays, is my sister.... she cant even tell you how much of anything to use.... that was always my grandmas deal... she'd tell you what ingredients to use..... just never how much of anything to put into it.
Are you talking about plain cake donuts? The kind you drop in a kettle of oil? Not yeast donuts, but cake donuts? Because I have my mother's recipe for those and she'd probably be the same generation as your great grandmother.
Lefse making is all in the dough and the consistency. Those that make it, do it by feel. I don't know that one could accurately give ingredient amounts because there are too many variables. The first and most important being the consistency of the mashed potatoes.
I love lefse that is done right. There used to be a woman up on a farm between Pennock and Kerkhoven that made it for selling. Inks' Mom would buy it from her and it was always soooooo good.
I liked pinehaven last year for the most part!! See you made it that far down and did stop by and say HI!!! arrggg I live in north shoreview alomst lino lakes!! I am just acrost the street from it!!! !!!
we had close to 20 people with us, plus I spent the whole day sitting in a chair at the tattoo shop, I was tired as hell and just wanted to go home
we almost didn't make it ourselves, we would have backed out but we had reservations :eyeroll: I was stuck in the tattoo shop for 5 hours, my tat started at 2:45 and finished at about 7:00, was a really long painfull day :frown:
I think one of the main things that was great about them was the nutmeg used in them.
Actually, I'm going to see if I can talk my mom into making some next Monday night. She did an okay job at them before.
I'll try and post my great grandmother's recipe if I can find it. The funny thing about hers was it was done in Rhyme, not so much volume. That's why it's soo hard to replicate, because she just had a method, not so much a measurement for the ingredients.
Heat three to four inches of oil in pan until bread cube becomes brown in about 40 seconds. (Don't you love that! lol) I heat until oil is 370-380 degrees.
Roll dough about 1/2 inch thick. Let rest for 20 minutes. Turn when risen and cut donuts with a drinking glass about 3 inches across. Make hole with the top of a salt shaker.
Fry about three minutes until golden brown, turning once.
I'm attending this and thought some of you may find this of interest - its open to the public- you just need to RSVP
and there is FOOD - FREE!!

Celebrating 125 year of Villaume Industries
St. Paul City Hall and Ramsey Courthouse Event
Thursday, October 25, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Ramsey County Courthouse
15 West Kellogg Blvd
Call 651-222-0701 to RSVP
Celebrate 125 years of a robust St. Paul company, Villaume Industries, by viewing a portion of the company’s stunning heritage work. Villaume Box and Lumber Company finished many of the rooms and corridors with veneers from “the largest collection of rare woods in the world…Europe, Africa, and the Orient, India, Mexico and the South Sea Islands as well as the forest of America…” as described by A.J. Crocker in the St. Paul Dispatch at the time.
You can see first-hand this glorious interior and tour highlights such as the MayorÂ’s office and the cigar store. A panel of experts will discuss the history of Villaume Industries, review their World War II contributions by building gliders, and hear more detail of the building process from 1929 on to its dedication on December 19, 1932.
This unique building was conceived (and funded) when our county was at the peak of the prosperous 1920s and built during the depth of the world-wide depression of the 1930s. These disjointed times resulted in lower costs for labor and materials than had originally been budgeted, allowing the unplanned use of exotic and imported woods and the use of renowned artists to create art works
Villaume Box and Lumber Company (now Villaume Industries) for more than six months employed between 150 and 175 highly skilled wood workers and cabinet makers fabricating and installing some 200,000 square feet of wood finishing in the building.
This is an opportunity to get the inside view of one of the cityÂ’s architectural treasures. Call 651-222-0701 to RSVP.

is anyone planning on getting together or maybe thought of hosting football Sunday? I want to hang out somewhere and watch the game. preferable some place comfy and warm and liquor
So is it just a quick walk through the woods, and then the 15 minute house dealy-o?
My daughter and I went to Trail of Terror last Saturday night. Got in line on the shoulder of HWY 169 at 8:06. Arrived in the parking lot area around 9:10. Briskly walked to the end of the line by 9:15. Got on a bus at 10:15. Got ticket and entered gate by 10:30. Went through a less than 1 minute haunted house (must have been for kids) and immediately jumped in the short looking line for the Haunted Hayride. Arrived on the Hayride after passing up the almost in-line opportunity of food twice around 1:15am. Got off of the hayride around 1:25 (would have been more fun if I wasn't in line for so long). Saw no line at the indoor maze (haunted house type thingy-ma-bobber) and went in. That was cool! About 20 minutes long, and my daughter was crying for about the first 5 minutes of it. The lady in front of us told a couple of the people to not scare her so much, which gave my daughter a chance to realize that no one was going to kill her, and the rest of it she said she enjoyed a little more. She loved it and would go back again. (She is 11.)
I would like to go back and see what we missed, there were at least 2 maybe 3 other little short looking haunted house things, a party area, and I would like to experience the haunted house without being drug through it so fast. We were timed to start 45 seconds after the people in front of us. Within 2 minutes, my daughter drug us right behind them.
Anyway... I wanted to post to ask if you liked it enough to recommend it (like you would go again next year or something). I was debating about trying to go this weekend... but I doubt I will be able to go, the kid that is home this weekend for sure would not do it.
Wow, that crowded on a Tuesday. I can only imagine what it will be like on the weekend. Thanks for the warning. I remember going once when I was younger when it was called Spooky World. It was too cold out to enjoy it. I remember it being more like Addams Family funny-scary, and not not so much jump-out-of-your-skin-piss-your-pants scary.
Spooky World and Trail of Terror Are 2 big difrences One is now defunked and closed down sold off and long sense GONE!!! and then there is Trail of Terror done By the same great funky people that bring you the wounderful world of RENASONS FEST!!!
Zeph.. I wouldn't recommend it. The coolest part was the 3 minute walk through the woods, and the "haunted house" was the garage of the homeowners and was just a pitch black maze.. the only reason I would recommend it is because everything raised there is going to the 35W bridge collapse survivors, so that's pretty cool.
I don't do haunted houses or whatnot myself. I guess about the only thing I'd be interested in is navigating a corn maze after dark. As long as some person in a "scary" costume doesn't jump out at me. Honestly, I'm just not interested in paying money to be freaked out by actors. It's probably the same reason I don't watch horror films. There's plenty of real stuff out there that gets the andrenaline and fears going.
We are, however, about 100 miles north or youz now.
