I know I wouldn't use Sprint/Nextel.

We have a prepaid cell phone from Virgin Mobile. That works just fine for us.

I think my daughter uses Verizon and I think my son uses T Mobile. Someone else at work uses T-Mobile and likes it.

I've got my sister's t-mobile cell phone - borrowing it to see how it works up here. So far, so good. Might buy one next time I'm in the cities, but will be looking at the options here too.

I wonder, though, if I should just buy something pre-paid until I figure out what my life is going to transition to.

I like my pre-paid...

just sucks when I get low on mins. and not ready to pony up more $.

But its gotta be better than paying after the fact.

The prepaid works wonderfully for us. We have it mostly in case of trouble on the road being we are on the road so often.

But we also use it to keep in touch with one another. Mostly, that is, whoever is out and about can check home in case there's something to be picked up. We almost never leave it turned on to get calls.

I have T-Mobil and its the only phone that works up in the boonies. It costs me $7.06 a month because I signed up when Best Buy was offering a deal years ago to employees and their families. Two daughters worked at corporate at the time but now both have moved on to different jobs, so when it breaks or whatever I'll not have that good deal.

I seldom use it, but do like the fact that it works where others don't.

Same here, Terry. I'll use it if I'm shopping and need to know sizes or something, but I don't even know my number.

People have come to rely on them too much I think. If mine wasn't so inexpensive I wouldn't even have one.

My daughter borrowed mine this weekend because hers wasn't working. I had a wedding to attend at the Prom Center in Woodbury, just across the bridge probably 10 miles. She was insisting she was going to bring back my phone in case I needed it while I was gone. I told her that I wouldn't be using it while I'm driving, because I don't, and I doubted I'd be using it at the reception and if I broke down on 94 or 494 I was pretty sure a car or two would pass me and someone one would be along to help eventually.

If I need to give the number to someone I call myself with it and copy the number off of caller ID.

I haven't had a cell phone in several years. They didn't used to work all that well up here. We had cell phones when Da Yooper's dad was in home hospice care, Problem is, up here, there is only service in the bigger towns, but we just got in the habit of checking for messages whenever we had enough bars. After Grandpa Yooper died, we found our cell phones mostly just sat unused and I let the contract expire. Funny that I never worried much on the road while I had dogs, but this last trip I did find myself feeling vulnerable and it really helped to be able to borrow my sister's phone. Also, I've been offered this work where I'd be traveling twice a month, so kind of figuring I'll need a cell phone now. What I hate is when people get so dependent on them that they can't drive anywhere without finding someone to talk to, then they get where they are going, they've spilled their guts about their frustrations, and just about when I can get a word in edgewise, they "have to go". I've learned not to pick up for certain calls, and its amazing how many more dropped calls those people are having these days. I don't have the energy to live someone else's entire day with them, plus live my own life too.

We heard from Brenda today. She's coming home Friday night and leaving Sunday afternoon.

She had a friend in college whose mom had gone in for a hysterectomy and ended up in a coma. It's been years and years now. The Mom died this morning so Brenda is coming back for the funeral and to support her friend.

I'm glad we'll get to see her. Wish is was under better circumstances. They knew she likely would never get better, but there was always hope.

I'm sure I've voted on this already, but now can't figure out how to log in. It asks for a mail ID and has a link to where you can find out what that is, but it takes me to the contest rules where I can't see any reference to a mail ID. Anyone know how to figure this out? I must just be missing something real obvious.

You shouldn't need to log in at all Eags. Just go here and scroll down to the 5th hospital now, on the right side then click on the vote button.

Would love to meet up with you for coffee. I'll be in MN over Thanksgiving, Christmas-New Years, and for the medallion hunt this year, all weather-permitting, but usually I can find a day when I can get out of Da UP.

haven't found it yet...

but I'm predicting I will...

I'll be lucky if I break even.

I forgot to post a few things...

On Monday, I went to the Rasmussen Biz college because their is an art fair there. Only one person working, turns out his wife is the district manager of that store. He called his wife she knew the hunt was going on but didn't know where to send me to get back on track.

2 be honest the first 3 clues are a mess--IMHO.

A woman who works at that CC told me she wrote the clues, hid the medallion, and is the only person who knows where it is. She is tall, thin, 40-50 years old with a chin-length bob haircut. I told her I was part of a medallion-hunting group, that we hunt the winter carnival medallion in January-February and lots of smaller hunts throughout the year. This all seemed to be new information to her, she didn't seem to know much about the winter carnival medallion. Kind of got that deer-in-the-headlights look when I started talking about it. With the goofup on the south east/west clue, I hope she's got her other facts right.

The mouse tripped the trap at 5:59 this morning. A friend just came and took it away to release it in his woods. He will come and set the trap up again later in case there are more. It is a deer mouse - actually pretty cute - but I'm glad I didn't have to touch him or anything.
