That 2nd shot is a 3 shot panorama. I can never get the whole building in one shot.

We'll probably need to harness them and pull them up manually.

The crane motor went down and even the manufacturer on-call guy can't seem to fix it.

They are getting paid. And yes, they are cold.

so when they get off the scaffolding do you have warm blankets ready for them or are you gonna sacrifice yourself and try to warm them up with good old fashion body heat? :sheepish: :goofy:

Blowing out my knee and it getting progressively worse all day to the point where I can't even stand, let alone walk anywhere right now. I crawl and hop on my other leg to refresh the cold pack and to get more pills. Which don't seem to be helping anyway.

The worse part is how I wrecked it - by sleeping!

Sheesh! :eyeroll:

Finding out I have a collapsed sewer two days before I'm supposed to host Thanksgiving. This is the third one I know of in my block. The other two have already had their yards dug up. And to add insult to injury, they'll have to break down my retaining wall to get to it. I don't expect I'll find anyone to fix it until after the holiday.

Sorry about your knee, CM. Care to explain how you did that sleeping?? Did you fall out of bed?

Odd that knee thing CM. My bad knee has been kicking up all day. Ibuprofen has been my friend. Hope your knee miraculously gets better overnight in your sleep.

OT - I'm really sorry about your sewer. Can you rent a port-a-pot?

I'm able to flush if I don't put any other water down the sewer a couple of hours before or after. I've been throwing dish water out the back door and my laundry tub holds a bathtub full of water so I'm ok as far as that goes. There's no floor drain in this old house so it backs up into my laundry tub. I know, disgusting. I'm trying not to let it rattle me too much. Just for the heck of it I'm going to call the insurance company tomorrow to see if anything like this is covered.

That happened to me a few years back, turns out when they did my streets sewer separation they dropped a large rock on my old sewer line and crushed it took years till it gave way completely. It's very expensive to have fixed. The city of St. Paul has a program that pays for the repair then adds it onto you taxes as a special assessment, giving you five years to pay it off.

I think it's kind of suspicious that so many houses in my block have the same problem. This street gets used a lot by fire trucks going to the high rise down the street to free people from the elevator. They've resurfaced the street twice in the past seven years because of the heavy trucks going by several times a year.

Here the city doesn't fix it. I have to hire someone on my own. So unfortunately I can't add it to my tax bill.

Did you have to break up your basement floor?

Did you have to break up your basement floor?

typically no..

but if you need to backhoe..that's bad enuff...

sidewalk etc..

I had to hire someone, but they were willing to pay the bill and add it to my taxes. mine was in the street so didn't have to dig up the basement.

But how does one know the collapse isn't under the house before it goes out into the yard?

Just got off the phone with my insurance company and I'm insured just for damages caused by a flooded basement caused by a back up and not for any repair. I have no damages because I have no floor drain. It's backing into my laundry tub. Got my hopes up for a minute when she told me I'm covered up to $5,000 and my deductible is $500, but I don't have a claim.

Not only back hoe and the yard, but my retaining wall will have to be broken down. :frown:
Wed, 11/21/2007 - 7:04 AM Permalink
KITCH

your retaining wall is before the street??

hmm..

who told you that you needed it dug up...

strange that they are telling you its crushed and not know exactly where they need to dig...

did they scope it?
Wed, 11/21/2007 - 7:10 AM Permalink
jREST

Agree with Kitch, some plumbers can run a video log down the sewer pipe to see what the problem is (roots) or broken pipes. This will also give them the distance down the pipe to the problem and then they know where to dig.

Good luck with this one. Timing is everything, and this time that timing sounds like is sucks.

I'm kinda surprised that when you get a home inspection done that they don't offer to scope the main line for an extra fee.
Wed, 11/21/2007 - 7:26 AM Permalink
OT

Hasn't been scoped yet. Can't get to it until after Thanksgiving. But my sons snaked it last night and ran into a block at about 35 feet and pulled out lots of roots when they brought it back out.

My retaining wall is where my front yard ends and the sidewalk in front of the house begins.
Wed, 11/21/2007 - 7:26 AM Permalink

Home inspection, Huh?

The two sons who snaked it last night are plumbers. And their professional opinion is that its collapsed.

hmm..

I had a house where roots was an issue...

I just had rotorooter cut threw them...and than redid the service on maintance ...like once a year...

Its possible you don't haft to do it...
