I am going to have someone send down a camera before I dig up my yard. Just doesn't look too promising. They basically used the same equipment that Roto Rooter uses. And they hit a barrier. The blade actually got hung up on something and they were afraid they were going to have to winch it out. Or leave me with a disconnected waste pipe.
I think I mentioned that two other houses on the block have had collapsed pipes.
If you are having a house full of people tomorrow OT. I would call and get a port-a-potty delivered so that you won't have that problem on top of any other waste water that happens down the drain. I know they are fairly inexpensive to rent.
Yikes! I suppose that's a good idea but it would have to go in the front yard because my back yard slopes. Can you imagine what the neighbors would say?
I sent off an email to my kids to see what they think of the idea or if they have any other suggestions. Maybe they'll have to take a few trips to the nearest convenience store.
I've decided I'm going to throw dish water out the back door.
Welcome to my Hell. First a little background. My mother died in 1998. I've lived in this house since. My two living sisters and the children of my two deceased sisters inherited everything. My sisters and I each own a 5th and the children of my sisters own a 4th of a 5th and a 10th of a 5th respectively. So no one cares that I live here because I took care of my mother round-the-clock until she died so she didn't have to go to a nursing home.
The gal from the insurance company just called and told me that because the house is in my mother's name and she doesn't live here (duh!), the house hasn't been insured since she died. I told her I wasn't insuring my mother, I was insuring the house and what about the premiums I've been paying for over nine years then? She said they didn't know she was dead so there's nothing they can do about that. Does that sound right?? Where did that money go then that I paid in if not to cover this house that I own a part of?
That doesn't sound right. Your mom doesn't have anything to do with it. I could pay the premiums on your house and it shouldn't make a difference because it's the house that's insured and not the person who pays the bill.
I would agree, if you have been paying the premiums for homeowners insurance, the house should be insured. Doesn't matter who lives in it. I would dig a little deeper to see what is going on, that makes no sense to me either.
I would guess that the issue isn't who's house it's in - I would guess that the policy was originally written for OT's mom (we need a name for her: ROT? (Really Old Timer? no, that doesn't work, and it's kind of gross, let's go with OOT for Olde OT), and OT just kept paying the policy herself. Now that she's trying to collect, she doesn't have standing to, because it's not her policy. Cluemaster can pay my insurance, sure, but he can't collect if he doesn't own my property.
Well, she's talking gobbly goop to me now. Apparently their computers are down so she hasn't been able to cancel the old policy that's in my mother's name and write up a new one with myself and 16 of my closest relatives names on it. :eyeroll:
She's looking for something that will cover me until the new policy takes effect. So I asked her, so you're saying if something had happened during these 9 1/2 years the policy wouldn't pay? And she said something about I'd have to prove some kind of ownership if that had happened. Then I asked her why I needed this special policy until the new policy took effect then if I could prove "some kind of ownership" if it came to that and she started with the double-talk.
My son is going to talk to an attorney friend of his about it.
Bear, that's pretty much what this woman is saying, however, CM doesn't live in your house. My drivers license has this address, my voting record. My taxes are filed from this address.
Terry, the house is still in her name. To have it in my name I'd have to buy out the gazillion people who can lay claim to a tenth of a fifth and all. I'm basically a squatter here. But for that reason I don't claim the taxes on my itemized deductions but do for the house I actually own by myself that my son rents for me.
My Porta Potty arrived! Thanks for the suggestion, Terry. My daughters are going to decorate it with lights tomorrow. Then we'll take a family picture of Thanksgiving at Grandma's.
hope your sewer gets fixed without to much complication
Ive had that happen before and it sucked!
The city of St. Paul has a program that pays for the repair then adds it onto you taxes as a special assessment, giving you five years to pay it off.
thats what we did. but when we thought we may have been done paying it, the taxes were hiked for some other reason so we don't see the drop. Our taxes went up over $200 for the house - just got the property taxes the other day
Mags just got home from working up north (Red Lake area) and said from St. Cloud southward, it was snowing just enough to make everyone stupid. Roads weren't slippery, visibility was OK, but one flake and everyone slowed to a crawl.
Last year I hosted - Just as family arrived, stove broke with 1 1/2 hrs left on turkey and discovered the kids had lice!!!
This year:
Left at 6pm Wednesday for up North - car broke down in Big Lake - by the time we hitched a ride back to cities and got other car it was 11:20pm - arrived exhausted!!
Got up and while reaching for my purse, cracked my head on the corner of the overhand cabinet - cut my head - hurt like *!#@... After the breakdown of tears... climbed into folks car to drive 1 hour to Aunt's house for Turkey... I wasn't feeling well felt very "dooms dayish... about 1/2 way there I heard a loud noise, asked my mom to please pull over just to humor me.... could smell the rubber once we stopped....
On a Good Note: Auntie D was waiting in the driveway when we pulled in with an open bottle of wine for me called Sweet Bitch... I love my Auntie D..
wow you guy's! I thought I had it bad just because we have so many places to go, doesn't seem like much to complain about now, hope today is better for everyone!
Well, the lights on the Schmidtster blew before we got a picture, but we took a picture of the kids by it anyway. My camera wasn't working so I have to wait for someone to send me a picture before I can post it.
It was hilarious! At one point there was a line.
On Thanksgiving morning between dinners at Mrs. Bear's family and my family, we ended up driving around SSP because I *thought* I knew where OT lived, and we wanted to get a picture taken at the Portapotty. Never found it... :frown:
I have roughly, about 40 minutes of footage from my friends bands show, back on the 13th, that I want to upload to the internet....
every site i've found will only upload the first 8 seconds or so, of it...
google video, yahoo, youtube, its evidentlly too big for MyspaceVideo, and i've even tried 4 or 5 other ones that I found while searching for them, online....
nowadays when you sell a home in south saint paul you have to have a "truth in housing" inspection done...
they go thru everything and everything has to be up to code to sell it...i'm surprised they don't scope the sewer line...
I think I mentioned that two other houses on the block have had collapsed pipes.
The timing really sucks.
I sent off an email to my kids to see what they think of the idea or if they have any other suggestions. Maybe they'll have to take a few trips to the nearest convenience store.

they couldnt have called sooner... maybe like sometime in the past 9 years?
seems kinda fishy to me... maybe call a lawyer, just incase?
thank you for informing me this wonderful news.. :frown:
If they say you haven't been insured. I would produce the death certificate for your mother and demand a refund with interest.

OT- Hope you get it all straitened out ok. Seems to me they could tunnel under the retaining wall to run a pipe if need be without wrecking the wall.
Hope you post a pic of the decorated portapotty!
CM doesn't live in your house
Says you
Hey OT - Did you ask your agent if you could get insurance on your porta-potty? HeH
I did tell her that the value of my house probably went down several thousand dollars with a Porta Potty sitting in the back.
only to sit here for less than a week...
being told moving back to my old desk...
smelled like crap.
burning crap.
